The Italian stallion

Given the likes of Gravy, Konate, Dom & Mo slightly less time in the league so that they were “fresher” for CL games.

Additionally, it’s a chicken and egg thing - were those players not at the right level because they didn’t get consistent time on the pitch to get into form or where they simply not good enough this year (because they’ve all played more previously).

Therefore m, those players might have been “more likely” to change the course of a game if their form was better.

I’d also say that Harvey, Endo & even Chiesa have looked “capable” when they have been called on, which is why I’m surprised they haven’t been called on more.

We, on this site, moan about Gravy not looking as good of late, being over-used, etc, Dom being ineffective, Mo being “missing” - yet we have means at our disposal to change that - and for whatever reason Slot has chosen not to use them.

Endo is an good example - we rave about his ability to “close” out a game, etc. why didn’t he play against Southampton in the league game inbetween the PSG games - for example.m and give Gravy a rest?
Yes I get the point of the subs not getting games but surely that means that Slot doesn't rate them ergo they're not good enough.
I'd love Elliot to be a success at the club but this season when given the chance he hasn't taken it.
Endo for all his endeavour in tackling and closing a game out is not an elite midfielder.
Chiesa, similar to Elliot but with the added bonus of looking like he has collected enough coupons to play for Liverpool.
Listen, I'd love to be proved wrong and they all get minutes to show they can step up next season but I can't see it happening. I'd alike it to what you say about the club not buying expensive players at 18-21 age bracket, a team operating at our level doesn't have the luxury of embedding them in for a decent run of games.
Maybe just maybe we'll see them all in the last few games.

The only point Is really argue is if “Slot doesn't rate them ergo they're not good enough”, Klopp seemingly rated them better and played them more.

Are they top quality - nope, but what level of quality do you need to be a squad player.

There’s a balance to be struck there between a small tight squad that can over perform against expectations and win leagues (arguably Slot’s MO) and a bigger squad that can challenge and win on multiple fronts (which is very fucking hard to do).

Really fine margins here - but I think there’s a little bit of cutting off your nose to spite your face here from Slot - not much.

Playing them after the League’s won and we’re out of all other comps is meaningless - if they performed well it’d surely raise the question of why not sooner?

I guess the long term question in my mind is - is this a “thing” for Slot, like is he going to persist in playing the same players constantly or is he really saying he’s not going to rotate until he has “better” players.

That also very much feels like what Will actually determine whether Slotbis a long term success or just a very lucky boy that got to inherit a cracking squad.

Maybe this is part of it... Klopp played them more last season and we didn't win the league

I don't see it as pointless. It'll perhaps give them four games to stake a squad place for next season or show that they're not up to it needing replaced and/or putting them in the shop window.

Not sure Elliot, Quansah and Endo would have impacted enough to win any games consistently. When they had chances, they always looked mostly lile players who can fill in to a limited impacr for us this season. However, I would have started Chiesa in lasrt few games and would defo give him starter chances in next few games. Ultimately, we haven’t won more cups because our squad hasn’t been good enough to and that includes most of our subs. That’s not a greedy criticism on our season because winning the PL would be unbelieveable alone.

Milan’s disappointing Serie A campaign has left them with a lot of work to do in the summer transfer window.
A primary concern remains regarding the appointment of a sporting director after talks with Fabio Paratici failed last month. Still, the club are looking at targets to pursue already, with Geoffrey Moncada leading the charge.

One of the interesting names they have been linked with today is that of Federico Chiesa who is currently with Liverpool in the Premier League. As per Daniele Longo, Monacada and Milan have an excellent relationship with his agent Fali Ramadani and this could help their cause.

Chiesa had reached Serie A royalty status with Fiorentina and Juventus before a dip in form and injury issues hit. He moved to Liverpool in the summer, where he has barely ever played and will probably look to move back to Italy when the summer transfer window reopens.

Lets be honest Turkish and Italian clubs live in delusion that market prices are still what they were in the 90s. They'll ask that we loan him out till his contract ends and we pay 60% of his salary or they'll offer less than we paid for him.
Its a waste of time.

I'd rather keep him and pay for the conflict resolution specialist needed to sort out whatever issues are between him and Slot.

I keep seeing narrative that Chiesa 'lost his chance' after Plymouth - but that is just incredible scapegoating as every single player that day was shite. Chiesa showed in the Carabao that he is a threat in our forward line, yet we have him sleeping on the bench. I'm actually getting pissed off that we are watching Jota and Darwin (who are both 100% leaving this summer) waste time up front when we could actually be using / testing Chiesa there in these final 8 games before we go into a transfer window and a pre season.

Maybe he's just really really shit in training?

The almost total exclusion of certain players is a concern. The stuff we heard out of Feynoord was that he is ruthless and will get rid of players... but... that process can't start in Sep / Oct to the detriment of the team / season. If nothing else, totally ostracising players reduces their sell on value. But we will know more next season when he's had the opportunity to buy / sell.

Agree. At the same time, some of the Chiesa PR is a bit embarrassing. When Chiesa finally got on the bench in January, there was this article - The plan was always for him to join in January.

"Federico Chiesa absolutely furious with every foul being given against Liverpool here. Not sure I've ever seen a player less involved on the pitch be so passionate about off it."

Seriously. We could write that about most people on SCM.

I'd have an article series on me

"Fabio: inside the mind of SCMs most negative melt"
