Patrick Barclay in the Standard today wrote that Suarez is better than King Kenny. It almost feels blasphemous writing this post!

I never saw Kenny play, but it is difficult to imagine someone in a red shirt better than Suarez.

What do you think?

Most of us fortunate enough to have experienced Kenny Dalglish’s playing career would rate him the best Liverpool footballer of our lifetimes, conceivably the best ever.

Until now. Dalglish never delivered a barrage of sustained brilliance to compare with that of Luis Suarez since the Uruguayan made his belated return to Premier League fields this season.

Much as Dalglish was loved for his craft, intelligence and ability to make and score goals, Suarez is exhibiting all he had and more. Both appear to have been born with razor brains but Suarez covers the ground faster and has more energy, making it even harder for defenders to keep track of his movement.

While not as physically strong as Dalglish, he compensates with relentless teasing of opponents, tempting fouls. If he continues to do it more ethically than last season, his right to the Footballer Of The Year award will be unchallengeable.

Oops. I voted yes when I meant no. I don't really know why I voted because it's a pointless and impossible comparison of two players playing in completely different circumstances. The only thing the two era's have in common is the red shirt of LFC.

its always difficult comparing players of different eras, but it can be fun!

Dalglish for me because of his brilliance over a sustained period and the trophies he won. Not every team he played in was great, either. The team that won the double was pretty ordinary but when Dalglish started picking himself regularly they put together an amazing unbeaten run. It's great to watch Suarez at the moment and if he can sustain this for a period then I could be persuaded to think again.

I never saw Kenny play, did you? it would be great to hear from those who saw both play at their peaks. Admittedly Kenny has done more as he has played longer for the reds, but could he do what Suarez is doing now?

I've been going to the match since 1961 so I've seen almost all the greats, with the exception of Billy Liddell. Dalglish was both a brilliant goal scorer but also a brilliant maker of goals. he didn't have Suarez' capacity to beat a man or his relentlessness (Keegan was up there in that respect) but I don't think Suarez could play a pass like Dalgish did for Rush to score against Watford. A month ago I wouldn't have dreamt of Suarez and Dalglish being mentioned in the same breath but such has been Suarez' brilliance lately that I can see why people are asking the question.

I've heard quite a few 'more mature' Liverpool fans say Suarez is like bits of Keegan & Dalglish rolled together.

thanks for sharing, its views like yours which are worth noting since you've seen both. me, being naturally taken up with players of the moment or last 15 yrs or so, have opted for suarez!

I had to go to London last week, so I was reading the Standard on the train back and was delighted to find that Barclay's column is now called 'The Barclay Account'. How fantastically naff! Anyway, it's just a privilege to have seen both of these players. Kenny would win it for me because he made every ball count, everything was done with great intelligence and technique, and he did it in the big games. Yes, he shone in one of the best sides in history, like Messi does for Barca. I never get why that's supposed to be less impressive than playing for a shit team. But Suarez is another player who is just sui generis. He doesn't play like anyone else. This season he's simply stunning.
