"Coutinho evades people on the halfway line".

"Coutinho was horrific against Bolton"

No dumbing down, no Sir.
He was ghastly against Bolton. He scored a worldy but he was SHITE

And Coutinho does tend to skin someone on the half way line and then run in to space.

You're taking this personally because it's Ryan

Why am I? He makes a few trolling comments, people respond and now we're overreacting?

Whatever.

You're taking Ryan's "side" because it's Coutinho, he was ghastly against Bolton? Really?

He was. He was wasteful. Popped up in the 90th to win us the game, but aside from that he was poor.

You're overreacting because a month after the initial comments you're still throwing it in his face. At every opportunity.

He's been very open on his criticism of Coutinho and has said he thinks he could be brilliant.

And how were his comments trolling? He disagreed with a majority of the site and its trolling. He wanted more from Coutinho and he's starting to deliver consistently.

Well if people are going to make arrogant, outlandish comments, maybe they shouldn't act like cocks about it. Because as soon as they're proven wrong or challenged about it, people start pouring sympathy all over them and rewriting what they've said. Poor the Modo, poor the Ryan. Whatever.

I nearly flounced off when nobody agreed with me in the Bony Is Boss thread. Deeply upsetting it was.
I had your back. I agreed he is boss.

I do know very little about football, though. So I don't know if me agreeing with you means anything.

Coutinho is brilliant though! Not could be. He is right now. He's not some average player with potential.

Of course he will have bad games but who doesn't?

Which attacking midfielder* in the epl would you change Coutinho for?

Bar Silva (close call too), I can't think of anyone else. Says it all really

Sanchez is considered as an attacker/forward.

I wouldn't trade him for anyone

But that doesn't mean I shouldn't want more from him, because he CAN give more

Course we should, but like I said, people aren't reacting to the hope to get more from him. Some posters have been overly critical and the reasoning behind it is daft. He needs to improve certain areas, fine. Don't point out stats that don't stack up, or compare his goals record to a striker, especially when the point doesn't even stand up.

You expect more from Coutinho and you said that Ballotelli owes us nothing Fabio?
Ballotelli arguably arrived here a world class striker and you've cut him slack even when he was missing sitters and playing shite.
Why don't you expect more from him?

Because I know he won't deliver

I've cut him slack because he's been shit, and if he can deliver ANYTHING I'll be surprised. I've advocated playing him for months because he is a striker and we paid decent money for him. It seems foolish to me that he shouldn't get played when we had no viable alternatives. Sterling has done well, but he doesn't seem to have the strikers knack (the runs in to the 6 yard box, knowing when to run etc[and this isn't me kicking off at sterling] )

The Balotelli comment was after he scored and didn't celebrate. He doesn't owe us as the fans as a majority have been on his back. As long as he turns up and puts in a performance (which he started to do recently) I don't care if he doesn't celebrate.

As for Coutinho, he has given absolutely stupendous performances and he clearly has the ability. Macca has said it in the past and I agree with him, that Coutinho should be pulling the strings against poor opposition, but he doesn't with any degree of consistency.

Ryan is using dramatization to hammer home his 'doubts' over Coutinho. I bet it's mostly tongue in cheek as he's a known admirer of Lallana. He's hamming it up is all.

As usual when Balotelli's being discussed, the interests of the team as a whole get pushed into the background. It would have been quite wrong to play him more often before his recent improved form because the team as a whole would have functioned FAR less well. Sterling may not be a natural striker but he's still been much more effective in that role than Balotelli would have been, until recently at least.

And he DOES owe the fans. They wouldn't have been on his back in the first place if he didn't.

It's almost as if that run of games he had where he was shite, lazy and unfit, just didn't happen.

The first part of that is strange.
I'm struggling to grasp why players that contribute fuck all during a season gets more slack it's just plain weird.
It's ok to expect more from Coutinho and sure his shooting is inconsistent at times but some are using the same stick to beat him with whilst defending other players blindly.

Terry McDermott at his peak scored about 20 goals in a season (in all competitions). If Coutinho gets close to that he'll have done brilliantly. Terry Mac could score those spectacular shots from outside the box but he could also, better than any other midfielder of his time, pass and run late into the box to score more goals. It's the latter that Coutinho needs to work on.

I haven't defended him blindly since he was dropped. I thought he deserved another chance, that's all. My only recent things with him was 1)defending his right not to celebrate 2)defending his right to take that pen.

Only one of those viewpoints is controversial.

Also, balotelli is leaving this summer, so he's a write off

Coutinho I HOPE will be here for years. I want him to progress quickly so we can have a hell of a player

Coutinho is inconsistent, if you want to put it in right words. There is nothing more to it and nothing less. But there are reasons for that.

1. He thrives on surrounding movement - a) that creates space for him, b) that gives him a chance to play to his strength which is playing some astonishing passes, Therefore, he tends to perform to his best when Sterling or Sturridge are playing in front of him.
2. He does not make runs like Lallana does
3. He should be more greedy to get the goal and he should also come inside the six yard box more often to get a cross from a striker, Sterling or Lallana. He most of times waits at the edge of the box. It will add more unpredictability to his game and it will help the team also.

You're just hating on Coutinho because Gerrard is leaving soon and needs to be replaced.
