The new number 9…

The thing with someone like Delap is, he is playing in a relegation team where he is allowed room to run and bulldozed his way into back-tracking defence when they launch counters. Our current number 9 looked good doing that as well when he was back in Benfica.

But how would he fare against low blocks? He is totally untested. He also hadn't scored that many goals in his entire career.

Cunha and Delap both with release clauses of £62m and £40m have prem experience, which i thnk gives them the edge.
Who ever they choose, lets hope they have, pace, power, height and technical ability.

We make a lot of counter attacks ourselves that our players mess up very frequently

He would be good as the squad option we bring in when our New 9 is out or rested.

Yep - for me he’s one of two #9s. We also need more Brits. His value can probably only go up. He’d be better than current version on Jota & Nunez

I think Delap’s another trap - I agree with whoever it was said he’s this season’s Evan Ferguson - I think I’d prefer another season’s proof he’s capable of going up a level.

Also, he’s just turned 22 and has only 2 seasons of regular first team football in him, so I’d say there’s a high chance of stagnation or significant drop off if he’s not playing regularly.

He’s the sort of player that goes to Chelsea or Utd and his career goes down the toilet.

I don't think delap is ever going to be the best in the world; but I think he's the potential to be a consistent non-exciting goal scorer. I'm alright with going for him, providing we also go for someone else as a similar age profile with a bit more of a ceiling

Delap and Ekitike for 100m combined I think could be quite nice.

Hasn't Evan Ferguson's main problem been injuries? Delap seems a safer bet on that front.

I think someone will get a bargain at £40m, I just doubt he's ready for us yet. I'm not totally convinced he's got absolutely top class potential either, tbh, but then so few strikers seem to at the moment.

United seem to be getting the strongest links and have been working on a deal for a while. Chelsea will be sniffing around.

It's a wild set or circumstances that a relegated striker off the back of a no more than decent first year could feasibly be first choice of the existing champions, so he would be wild to turn us down if the club expressed any interest whatsoever. That opportunity rarely comes along, if at all. I think we would probably need another, but I wouldn't be wildly opposed to holding fire until that candidate was more obvious than this year. It's not ideal, but anything that saves a repeat of the Nunez deal is better. The perfect scenario is the data-nerds uncover a gem at £40m-£50M and we go into the season with two new nines.

He’s nailed on for a big move this year…could work well with two pacy goalscoring wing forwards…

Tbh that's what I'm thinking. He'll have to learn. But he's got a lot of attributes I like.

In a world with very very few available top class strikers, he just needs to be above average. I think he is. And for a decent fee

With our budget we have to take risks. Getting him at £40m and seeing what he does is better than seeing him flourish and be outside our budget like Haaland and Jude.

forest then?

Delap appaz has a 30 mill £ release clause if Ipswich get relegated. As others have said thats a really interesting move for a young English player that has been very impressive this season.
We could also use his physical style of play to improve what our current squad is missing.
He's got pace, can create and is a good finisher. 12 goals is impressive.

Wouldnt mind signing him and Ekitike. But most likely we only sign one forward. Which makes it a bit more tricky in terms of who to sign.

Delap for 30 mill feels like an Edwards type signing though.

We've been linked with Wirtz these last few days. Wirtz as our new 10 would be an absolute dream behind a new striker.

Please no mega money moves. I really can't be asked chasing a player for weeks for him to only choose someone other than us. The pace the club works negotiations we need to stay away from protracted signing.

Wirtz is Man City bound. They are likely to spend £400-600m this summer revamping their squad.
