For me was that you could see how Rodgers has stamped his mark on the team, in how he generally wants them to play. It didn't look as clueless a team as the previous three seasons, until the penalty.

The negative is that we had zero impetuous apart from Suarez (who as usual made some great chances all on his own, only to fuck it up with shit shooting) and Johnson.
Gerrard was beyond poor, Downing did fuck all apart from one cross, Borini was pretty ordinary.

Allen has a great passing game, but with the rest of the players doing fuck all in the final third in terms of passing, we could have done with him trying some bold passes there.

It was shite today, but the fact that you could see the manager's blueprint on the pitch at least gives me some optimism for this season once the players gel a little more under this system.

Can't wait to see the lad with the wierd name playing on the wing instead of ordinary Stewart.

It'd be nice if they started playing as a team too, there were too many people just doing their own thing today. I didn't see more than a couple of worthwhile linkups the whole match.

You really didn't see the difference today?
When the goal went in I didn't notice a difference from last season

Triangles were very nice to see, but our movement from some quarters wasn't the best

and we STILL need a better fucking striker

A shitter performance than most from last season.
We've had shitter performances Macca.
Forget the end result. Just the way we set out to play, the fact we could be playing some really good footy once the players gel due to this.
I think there IS a positive.
Yeah, same old, in terms of shite finishing. But I think it was different today.
Forget about defending the past and legends. I think there's a positive to be drawn from the match today.

the only positive was i didnt see it cos im stuck out in Laos... doing things on the cheap just doesnt really work in the Prem ... unless you are lucky as fuck.... and we clearly aint lucky, at least not anymore.

10 Positives :

1. We didn't hit the post or bar once - progress on last season.
2. Pepe saved his first penalty in ages and we didn't miss one.
3. The transfer fee we paid for Joe Cole actually reflects his true worth.
4. We're only 3 points off the top.
5. We're on level pegging with 4 out of last years top 5 - with Arsenal only 1 point ahead.
6. We're undefeated at fortress anfield in the league.
7. We're still in all domestic cup competitions & Europe.
8. I swear I saw Pepe call Dowd a "fucking manc" after giving one of the penalties.
9. Steve Clarke has finally managed to secure employment that pays enough for him to afford a suit - gone are the days of trackie pants & shell suits. We helped him get there.
10. Fernando Torres still hasn't scored a league goal this summer - useless cunt.

Joe Allen looks quality.

If we are playing this Tikka Takka shite, how come in the ten minutes I saw of the game Skrtel & Agger hoofed it out of defence 5 or 6 times?

Thats brilliant. I feel really happy having read that, especially point 5, don't really care about point 9 - other than that its looking really good.

first smile I made all day

ahh fuck.... my local cable channel is showing it at half one... at least the commentary will be in something which sounds a little like Klingon.

Macca has quickly forgot our games against: Spurs, Fulham, QPR, Wigan, Newcastle, Man City, Sunderland. Etc etc etc. Justto name a few.

There were loads of games last year when we just didnt turn up at all, not for 90 full minutes. Yesterday we were in charge of the game until the wonderstrike. The penalties and red card finished the game.

To say it was worse than last seasonis blinkered at best.

I thought we had a league game today? You know, where we ended up in our worst position in 18 years.
Fuck off. This is the most stupid thing I ever read. We didnt look clueless today? We really looked like we fought it out for a draw? That second half performance was the most clueless thing I ever saw..... Were was the midfield? Putting Joe Cole on when we needed a goal? Wheat the fuck was that performance from Carragher? Borini? Downing? NOTH CLUELESS? IDIOT

Well you're a nice little chap, aren't you.
We didn't look clueless, but we still wren't quite there yet. But by the shape of the team, the way we played, it was obvious for even a clueless halfwit, hopefully, to see where we're going. Provided we gel better with both the current team and any new faces, you can see how we'll shape up this season and beyond.
We were in control in the second half until the red card. We certainly had no chance after Skrtel's error and the fucked up decision by the ref shortly after.
The fact that you bring the second half into the argument clearly shows you have no desire to look at the game objectively.
Have a glass of milk and calm down.

Second half was half the game. And we did look extremely clueless in half the game. The part of the game were needed to show something to get back into it.

So we're going to be all right unless there's a 'wonderstrike,' after which we will be clueless. Wow, how tactically impressive.

There were many games last season where we played superb passing football, in triangles, quadrangles, hexagons and polygons - but we were wasteful and didn't put the ball in the net nearly enough and followed that up by conceding silly goals. So there is no change from last season, that said it's very early days and we'll have to wait and see if maybe by Xmas progress is being made.

I don't think there were many positives, we played good football and got beat a few times last season too, it wasn't staggeringly different, we've got good players who should, under most instruction, be able to put a few passing moves together, that's the very basics of the game so applauding it now under a different regime, when it's something we were doing off and on to no great end result last season is clutching at straws.

Yeah it's a one off hopefully, but it should serve as a reminder that we're nowhere near good enough yet, it will take time to bed in new ideas and Rodgers (unfortunately) has to get us going ASAP. Lastly, Hodgson and Kenny would have been crucified for the "there will be more days like these" comment. It's defeatist and pathetic.

Kenny was many things but he never said anything defeatist... If any thing I would have criticized him for putting on a brave face when things were not going right....
