Hope you are all well. I want to tell you a little story at the end of which there is something I hope you can help me with.
Earlier this year Misred (Mrs Oncy) undertook a charity challenge. The challenge was to raise 3000 for childrens brain charity Camilles appeal. Her challenge was 5 days sledding and camping in the arctic circle. But to aid her in her endeavors she has done all kinds of other charity things in the interim such as world cup sweepstakes, auctions, parties and a Halloween Fayre (tomorrow).
Now at the time she signed up to do this my thought process was that if she didnt make the 3000 total in time we would simply put the rest in ourselves and tighten our belts for a few months so that Camilles Appeal still got the money and Misred still got to go to the arctic.
However in June Misred was laid off from her job and as yet has not been able to find a new one meaning we are in no position to put the rest of the funds in this month if she doesnt make the target.
Now this may sound like a sob story and really it isnt. For me it isnt about Camilles Appeal for once (who I have raised 1000s of pounds for in the past and you have all helped me with my charity bike rides etc. I know the 3000 gets given to them and they do great work for children with cancer.
But and this is the bit that I hope you all get. I have watched Misred try so hard and so passionately to raise this money she has spent all of her time out of work, not only searching for work, but campaigning to make this money for Camilles appeal and also doing loads of stuff to help friends and the PTA of our daughters school.
Im pretty humbled when I see people doing things, making real effort to do something like this and watching her and my daughter this week work so hard to make this Halloween Fayre a success (which it may or may not be and only time will tell) the joy and the passion and the care and love they have put into it together. Its been lovely to watch.
But im scared for them. Im scared that tomorrow night not enough people will turn up and her last chance to raise this money will be gone and she will not be able to go to the arctic and in reality all of the money donated needs to be returned if the fundraising target isnt reached.
I thought last night a lot about how that would affect them both after this and its something I dont want to see happen. I know I have asked again and again for you to support me and you always have and I cannot ever thank you all enough. Well this time it really means something to me, something I cant even explain. I need to get Misred over the line here and get this money raised it almost feels like the most important thing I will ever do.
I dont know if all this sounds like shit to you guys but its something I am really seriously hoping some of you can support me with.
My favourite book the Count of Monte Cristo has this line in it
'All human knowledge can be contained in these two words 'Wait' and 'Hope'
Well I really love that line, I kinda live by it through all tough times, through all moments of misery its something that I turn to that gives me peace. And this is a great chance for me to make it really mean something. To show Misred and Lil Red that they can believe in the power of dreams. That they only need to wait and hope and miraculous things can happen.
Thats what im asking for your support with here if im honest, a miracle.
She has so far raised less than 700 of the 3000 target with the Halloween money and some other charity bits she has done still to come in she is a long way from the goal.
What i would like you to do is OF COURSE sponsor her, but more than that, I want if possible for you to either sponser her anonymously or use your real name if she doesnt know your real name. I want you to share this for me, with your friends and loved ones and any other forums or websites or formats you think might have some affect.
She doesnt come on here anymore, she has literally been too busy looking for work and trying to juggle a hundred other balls too.
Im not telling her about this post. I dont want her to know about it, I want her to BELIEVE in the power of dreams. I want her and Molly to cry with joy and be blown away by the charity of people they dont even know.
I want you to help me by not just sponsoring her, but driving this on my behalf anywhere you think it will make a difference.
