The Premier League

With seemingly three quarters of the teams currently playing cautious and unattractive football with a significant focus on set pieces, how long before this affects the attraction of what is regarded as the best league in the world?

Will viewing figures start to drop followed by TV money? Will good players choose to leave whilst others decide not to join a PL team in the first place?

Or will this unpopular playing trend prove to be short lived?

I was saying this to my mate watching the game last night. This is the "Guardiolafication" of the Premier League, and long-term people will turn off.
It's not just LFC that needs Klopp back.

It's a proper grim watch. And it's more expensive than ever to view on TV and in the ground. People will continue to turn off/turn to dodgy sticks the more this continues, but it doesn't really seem to be having an effect on the money coming into the game. I think it will just be one of those things that is cycled out in a few years. It's a painful watch until that happens though.

It’s not just PL. The whole of football is a bore currently. International football ruined with tournaments expanded to saturations levels close to making qualifying irrelevant, Champion league similar route with extra games negating somewhat the exciting knock out rounds as there is a level of fatigue. In fact, caught a bit of the AFCON and that is a lot more exciting than anything seen over last year.

would we be talking about this if

a) we weren’t absolutely shite and not competitive
b) mostly old cunts who are jaded in terms of football and have a load of other distractions

personally i’ve been falling out of love with it for much longer than this season but the youngsters probably still love it and watch every game they can?

i do agree that it’s shite and oversaturated though right now but i can’t tell if that’s actually a problem or i’ve fallen right out of the target demographic

There might be an element of a) and b) definitely. But it is objectively shit to watch now, and it seems to be the common consensus. Everyone is playing Stokeball and it is 100% oversaturated. That does lead to a decrease in the product. Throw in VAR as well. It's the worst period of football I recall ever seeing in my lifetime.

I think the quantification of football combined with load is even more to blame. Quotas make for factories.

i hate all the expanded competitions, even if the quality didn’t decrease people’s interest would at some point. var needed to be effortless, it’s still as bad as it was that first game we played west brom in the cup.

it’s hard not to sound like a butthurt post klopp liverpool fan here though but i do think football might be overdue some changes to encourage the beautiful game to return.

I use to think this but then we weren't very good for longer period under Kenny second time out and under Klopp at times but still enjoyed it and would still waiting in anticipation
I think they have lost sight of what the game used to be about, no one asked this amount of games including club world cup. The balance of revenue over games has been totally . Before they used to chase the Asian and Global markets but seriously who wanted a WC in 3 massive countries. No one apart from the pay lords, it doesn't excite anyone. Also, the players are boring as anything. Frimpong running around fast without any real penetration or Doku doing another step over is not very good for the eyes. I realize have been spoilt by our previous front 3 and Klopp's football. For me this all started with Messi and Ronaldo, their last ability and perfectionism is just so boring, prefer imperfect era before them.

Thanks a bunch Howard fucking Webb. Allowing open season on systematic blocking and surrounding goalies to let Arsenal and the other anti football clubs to run riot.

No chance this will be allowed in Europe or the World Cup our League has gone full dinosaur
