Thoughts on Gomez?

Started against Norwich and in the Community Shield but has since then been relegated to the bench bar his start against MK Dons in the cup.
So, what's your thoughts?

You still reckon that Gomez is the better defender? Just bad form?

Personally I still think Gomez and VD suit each other better, I mean if Gomez can get back to the form he had at the first half of last season. I miss the pace he offered.
But until he proves himself, he should stay behind Matip in the pecking order.

Matip partnership with VD isn't bad at all. On the contrary they look really good together and seem to have a good understanding with each other.

This entirely. The position is Matip's to lose. Eventually he will have a dip in form or injury and Gomez will get a chance again. But until then Matip is deserving starting next to Virgil.

It's not that laughable, and again over the last 9 months there's not been many CBs playing better than Matip. Who is better?

It's a handful at most, on his current form.

Lallana's been injured for two fucking years. Brewster for over a year. And is also 19. Keita has been injured three times in less than 12 months. Lovren isn't good enough.
You could make the case for Shaqiri, but he's injured again.

Matip should absolutely not be rotated out on current form. We are quickly approaching the busiest fixture period in the season, there will be plenty of chances for Gomez to get a run out in place of one of the two regulars.

Hes 3rd choice CB at a club that will likely play more than 50 games this year, no need to panic.

On the contrary, it seemed Gomez arrived at the pre-season with a point to prove, was bossing everyone in training. But Matip deservedly kept his place and continued his excellent form from the end of last season. I hope Gomez does get some regular game time in the cups and CL, he is our future starting CB and needs to play in order to grow.
