so they've got him it seems . i'd be surprised if he doesn't get over 20 goals for them this season. but a fair whack of money to get him . then again higuain was 34m or something , it's mad money for decent players this year . we can't compete .
Defoe and Adebayor scored 16 league goals between them last season. He would do well to get 15 in his 1st season in a new league (+ some others in Europa League). He was only earning about £42k/wk so it might balance the overall deal in total a little. Besides, with the upfront payment being €12m with €6m for the next 3 seasons, its like using a portion of future funds in advance. Those installment payment amounts can be recouped with each season's domestic/European competition's revenues.
Firstly, Roy wasn't the main culprit, but Joe Cole, Poulsen, and the Fulham kid were obviously not good. Meirles was a solid signing.
Secondly, at the top of the food chain that is the PL (which we are at), if you buy quality badly, you just don't stop buying quality. It's a definite slide into oblivion. They've spent somewhat, but it was bouyed by the Torres purchase. When you buy a top 4 Premiership club for a bargain basement bankruptcy price, you should be able to suffer some poor purchases. Why? Because you paid a SONG for the club. Open your eyes and smell the propaganda. They got the club for about 200M less than it was worth. FFS.
Yes, the Kennoli purchases were AWFUL, in the main, but this is why I don't feel that bad for FSG. They got a great deal on the basis they could then afford to spend more than an owner that got the club at it's market price. If at first you don;t succeed, get a manager in who can buy better, and TRUST him. Don't miss out on a CL spot for the sake of two or three quality signings.
They did trust the new manager. Sadly that manager was kennoli and we spent large amounts expecting short term improvement.
Thankfully now some of the purchases they made have started improving, but the point remains, we spent erratically and poorly.

This is an odd one - I think we've dodged a bullet but I also don't think we dodged one ... Soldado is a good goalscorer, who's game has never been based on pace - I just don't know how he'll adapt to England.
