Post Match UCL Galatasaray (A) 1-0 Tuesday Sept 30th 8pm

Slot is clearly a decent manager, but maybe he’s putting this down to something that to isn’t. Lack of training sessions etc etc. it’s not. That was just poor play and total lack of any sort of plan.

You know the assumption was made by me and many this summer that in signing all these new players, Slot would actually have a plan for how we'd play this season. It's concerning that with every game that passes, I'm less confident in this thought.

Selling Diaz was my one big grip this summer, and whist I'm not saying he magically fixes everything, considering the embarrassing situation on our left flank is right now, not keeping him or replacing him effectively is looking like dreadful business.

Still this isn't terminal, but we need to start looking like an effective football team ASAP, Slot needs to prove his worth and ability now.
I was strongly against selling Diaz but in the end the money was just too much to turn down at that age (and we weren't offering him a new contract). And of course tragically losing Diogo.

What is currently wrong is likely not foreseeable with Gakpo, Macca & Salah all absolutely horrendous. It's not all on the new boys as, bar putting the ball into the net, they haven't been that bad. Isak also not fit. So if Gakpo, Macca & Salah can get their fingers out of their collective arses and start performing it will also improve the integration - it must be very tough as a new attacking player when both sides of the pitch are shite and constantly giving up the ball.

Is any of us surprised? Not really.

- Last year's players playing awful
- New players playing poorly
- Players not fit (Macca, Isak)
- New Coaching staff.
- Salah not what he was.
- Manager struggling

We got beat by a team that brought on a Bulgarian international, as a friggin' sub, much akin to Barnsley circa 2002.

Saying that, we play with two Hungarian internationals, does that make us Charlton from the same year?

@Farkmaster I think there might be a paper in this

I was lead to believe the math modelling nerds really brought the joy, as they always famously do.

The whole time my position on slot has been that you never really know a manager till they have to navigate some shit. Slot never had to. Klopp did, but he didn't get much credit for that, just the trophies.

We are a loss to Chelsea from really being in that shit. I can completely see that happening. We will see how he goes from there. He won't have immunity though like klopp mostly did. You already see the predictable bullshit.

By the way, there's no harm in being lucky and winning a league. It's not a character flaw.

The problem for me right now, more than anything, is that every single one of our main attacking players aren't really on song. Our best, ekitike is now injured.

Two of the few good players limped off. Ekitike and Ali are crucial at the minute. This is gonna be a tough autumn.

Ali is fantastic as we know however Mama is a damn good, damn very good, replacement.

Hope Ekitike's injury is nothing that will keep him out of games because we need him.

Chiesa must be laughing his tits off at the state of this club.

His “manager” actually making a case for our pen being unlucky, what a mug.

We’ll get better with time, maybe too many changes at once. The concern I have is that there doesn’t appear to be a leader on the pitch that would check the drop off in performance/ effort. Hendo/ Mille/ Robbo and Virg would be raging at the lack of effort. Teams have worked out that until we find some cohesion and game play, pure effort will be enough. That’s what I find unforgivable.

There's an international break after the Chelsea game. I hope those two weeks are enough for them to get back.

Not sure would invoke that option just for the sake of it, don't want to see Endo play there or in midfield anytime soon.
The Badger!

Seriously though, I understand our predicament, but there's nothing we can do about it until January.

Alright, emanating in bed and getting a few more hours sleep was indeed the right decision, because I would have been fuming at getting up at 5am for what seems like a right shitshow.

Although maybe me not getting up knocked the force out of balance… well never know!!!

The observations I would have are :
- lots of new new players
- lots of key players out of form

This is all in contrast to last season where there were no new players and most were in banging form at the start of the season.

Added to that - Slot is shuffling the pact more than he did last season - so are we giving up that early season charge for a longer term view of getting more players “peaking” in the second half.

Either way - Mac, Ibou, Mo & Gakkers need to find some form soon - Issk needs to get fit and sharp and the newbies need to integrate better.

Not much to say aside from the fact we are looking worse every game.

No clear shape
Players with low intensity
Tons of individual errors
Fucking around with players out of position

Our defence is on its last legs already depth wise, and we’re sacrificing our solid midfield to compensate.

Slot needs to own this. At the moment he’s just hoping for moments of magic - we’ve had seasons worth in 6 games. They will dry up and revert to the mean, and our “usual” play is predictable and half assed.
