Post Match UCL Galatasaray (A) 1-0 Tuesday Sept 30th 8pm

Whilst I agree we were utter dogshit (and those progressive carries stats just go to emphasise that) so were Gala. Throwing themselves to the floor with fake dives (one earned the penalty : clutching his head like someone had hit him with a baseball bat - I'd love to - even though the arm was nowhere near his face) and not doing too much throughout the game except stopping us (we did that well enough ourselves - didn't need their help), and not even with great defending most of the time.

We just wasted our possession, esp. in and around their box, I lost count of how many FKs were given against us (is it wrong to say he was a shite referee too - or is that too moany)?

Nearly all their opportunities (all?) came from (or were initiated by) us giving them the ball in dangerous areas. Our xG was comfortably better and that's because Ekitike, Gakpo and Konate could/should have scored. We had ⅔ possession and 16-9 shots (4-4 on target). We shouldn't have lost even if we didn't deserve to win, but easily could have won with better finishing.

But we're one of the top teams in the world. We're going to face a lot of teams who are shit, throw men behind the ball, dive and waste time, and seek to make the most out of 1-2 opportunities.

They're shit but they know they're shit.

We need to be able to consistently (and comfortably, more often than not) beat these sorts of teams.

We didn't go toe to toe with them, nor them with us. We got dragged into their game and didn't show the quality to take it back.

I read that and think “Curtis Jones’….fuck me he was frustrating last night..
My immediate thought

It's odd, whoever plays in midfield, it seems to be gravy that's the only one who can progress the ball. Szob, Macca, Jones; at the 8 they've all struggled to get it forward. Is that because slots told wirtz to be deeper?

It's just fucked

It's difficult to put a finger on what's wrong. Misfiring on so many levels. That's why managers and coaches earn their millions and I bet ours are scratching their heads too.

Could be worse though. Nearly every club in Europe wished our crisis could be theirs.

We will prevail.

This is NOT TRUE. Liverpool's 9 games HAVEN'T BEEN CONCERNING. Liverpool is actually at top of the Premier League table. Carra talking clueless shit. There are many great things going on within the Liverpool team and squad. Surprising really. Like Carragher is compromised somehow. Usually, he is pretty very insightful and street-smart too. Perhaps it is the this show, stuff he reads, gets affected by, etc.

I’m a public servant and barely take 2 weeks a year if that. My long service leave is building beautiful. A great perk of Australian life!
I honestly feel for people that live to work and not work to live. I guess not everyone can be lucky. 2 weeks is piss poor - nobody knows what fate holds for you around the corner.

Two weeks actual time off or just sickness leave?
When I first started over here I didn’t have a sick day in 6 years. Kids changed that! Most of the days off are carers leave. I mostly take an odd Friday off for a long weekend. My trip home to Ireland over 2 years ago was the biggest holiday I’ve had in 20 years and was sensational with the boys, staying on my home farm and visiting castles every day. Just missing a trip to Liverpool.

Man, I find that weird.

I max out the most flexi leave I can take which works out at 28 days a year, plus my annual leave and bank holidays. Plus an extra day for sausage fingers birthday.

I give everything I do 100% whether it’s work or personal life. I cram my evenings and weekends with family stuff but give my career everything while working to set up my boys and hopefully future generations. I came from very modest means growing up on a farm in the west of Ireland. I don’t want my boys ever needing to worry about paying bills or having a roof over their heads or having food, while trying to enjoy life. Life is challenging enough for both of them with multiple diagnosis. I’m one of luckiest people going to have the Australian lifestyle I do. 3 min walk to a beautiful clean calm beach where it’s virtually impossible to drown or get eaten by sharks! 😅
