UK General Election 24/25

Clearly, we need the Tory cunts out.

But, it's not that simple is it? They're still widely supported. And fair enough, that's how democracy work.

Labour? I'm a Labour member but, I'm no fan of Starmer. I was a a massive fan of Corbyn until he was fitted up by the Mail and Express.

I hate UK politics at the moment. The way they're approaching Ukraine and the Middle East doesn't sit well for me.

Where's it going to go?

We need a change. If we get more Sunak I think people will give up.

I guess, the best you could hope for is that Starmer gets in an at least starts moving things back towards the centre as opposed to the Tories ever increasing lurch to the right and morph into UKIP.

I don’t know how that works or how long it lasts for with populism becoming… errrrr… so popular.

Can’t say I was a fan of The Magic Grandpa - no way the UK ever elects a socialist government.

I don’t mind Starmer, in the same way I don’t mind vanilla ice cream - he’s doubt a reasonable job of closing off all the usual Tory/RW media attack lines by agreeing to absolutely nothing controversial - which leaves Sunak in a bit of a muddle because he keeps having to veer evermore towards the right to keep his rabid party members & MPs satisfied and keep some distance politically between him and Starmer.

In many ways lots of people have given up already.

The NHS get so much coverage, and rightly so but education is also terrible atm and getting worse (granted its my anecdotal view but wife in a 'good' primary school, half a dozen or so friends as teachers inc a headteacher of a large secondary. Maybe are burnt out, a couple already quit and moved abroad. And my own exp in HE.)

So many other issues.

I'm done with labour, they won't have my vote anymore.
Starmer is worse than Sunak who has offered nothing apart from I'm not blue.

I'm more a fan of Starmer than Corbyn.

Tories have lost their heartlands. Its over for them.

I think the biggest problem will be complacency. There is a danger that lots of voters might take it that for granted that the Tories are going to lose anyway and won't bother to get off their arse and vote positively for change.

Starmer is using the Blair playbook. Not talking like a socialist because he lives in a thoroughly small c conservative country. If / when he gets in, the hope is he will continue to use the Blair playbook, by massively investing in social policy and education. Hopefully he won't invade somewhere on false pretexts though.

Based on just hope and pray then.
He hasn't invaded anywhere yet but the piece about international law will cause him issues.

It feels like Starmer has lost some momentum, but there is no way he doesn't take the GE. There is also a huge wave around strategic voting. I live in a constituency that was around 48% Tory, 45% Lib Dem and 5% Labour (with random indies elsewhere). The movement around the lib dems as the tory slayers is significant.

Yes, I can see this

You're right. For that reason, come polling day, I will vote Labour, but through slightly gritted teeth.

We're mad in this country.

You know, if you're if you're old enough, you can remember a fully funded NHS, that worked and treated people without delay. Utilities like gas, leccy, water, telecoms etc. that worked, had constant investment, were publicly owned, and delivered a good service. Public Services that were well funded, no-one used to hate their council, the council delivered 100%. Students used to get grants instead of loans, we funded our future. People used to retire at 60 with pensions that would provide for the rest of their lives. You used to be able to see your Doctor, whenever you wanted. We had no housing issue, if you needed a house you went on the Council list and then got one. The list goes on.

All that stuff happened not that long ago, maybe 30 years? Who knows. I remember it for sure.

If you tell young people now, they'll think that's mad. Was it a utopia? No, that's what life was like. Your taxes paid for it.

Where has all that money gone?

The answer is the Tories have taken your money and given it to billionaires/their mates/their investors.

They'll tell you that there is no money in this Country. There is a massive amount of money in this Country, they just don't want you to have any.

Life never used to be this sh*t, it shouldn't be, it needn't be. Yet people keep trusting them. They're snakes who are laughing at you. Kick them out.

Aging population + growth in population vs 40 years ago.

There's a lot to this. The money supply, the demographics, but the main factor is that 0.1% of us are now taking far more than they used to.

Stand back from it and try to explain why so many people are living hand to mouth on an island that has the fifth largest economy on the planet and only one percent of the population.

FWIW.. I agree the Tories have been absolutely crooked with what they've done and their dodgy deals. That's the main issue.

Contract A will cost 100m
Contract B will cost 500m but its Boris' mate.. who has no experience in this field.

OK let's go for Contract B.

Oh last year.. inflation was 10%.. but let's freeze council tax for most councils. Effectively hamstrung most councils this year. Absolute incompetence.

The only one that seems to be talking any sense in the UK is Mick Lynch. Shame you cant elect him.

I'm not a fan of Galloway I don't like his divisive politics.

It's gonna be fireworks when he rocks up in Parliament next week.
But once hes got a bite, and rochdale have seen what he's gonna do they'll prob vote for him again.

GG is a massive narcissistic nobhead out for himself, somehow thinking he's morally superior to everybody else when he's in the gutter... but if he's gonna shine more of a light on how shit the uniparty is and tear strips out of Starmer then I'll enjoy it regardless

Galloway's victory speech, threats to destroy Labour and promises to take over the local authority and transform the area are exactly the same, almost word for word as they were in Tower Hamlets and Bradford.

In reality, he just spends a few months or years grandstanding in parliament about the middle east, completely abandons his constituency, falls out with his party and his mates who he gets elected to the local council and is ultimately gone at the next election (when he threatens to sue everyone, and doesn't).

The only thing kinda in his favour this time I suppose is he doesn't have a lot of time for the residents in Rochdale to see through him, so if the election is soon he might get back in again.

On GG.
I kinda agree with the posts above. Kinda funny, great to see Starmer and the press pissed off. On the other hand, we'll be in a burning Inferno, giggling.

Various councils are in huge debts and increasing council tax as a result or hoping central govt can bail then out.

Birmingham council 2.9bn debt
Leeds 2.2bn, Woking 1.9bn.
Bundle of others inc Warrington, Barking&Dagenham, Thurrock.
