Since the forum is so quiet right now & I'm bored as hell in work I've been forced to start a thread. And since the only football worth talking about this weekend was the Champions League Final they get the topic.

Where are they going? Did last night teach Fergie anything he didn't know?

Will the Glazers give them some serious cash to spend or will Fergie have to settle with Young & a keeper.
 
I didn't see all of the match, but from all the reports it sounds like one of the greatest teams ever constructed beat a fairly ordinary Man United side, who went unchallenged all the way to the final. The outcome was all too predicable I thought, but still very enjoyable.

By the sounds of it United will spend quite big this summer, because they most now have to think about replacing Scholes and Giggs, as well as VDS and Ferdinand. Whether they've got enough cash free to suitably replace them will be the issue for next year.

They'll still be favourites to win the league though.
 
This Barcelona team is freakishly good, I hope we get a chance to play them at some point before that team breaks up.

As for the scum, I actually thought Fergie's tactics were awful. I can't see the point in Hernandez unless you're going to be playing in or around the other team's box a fair bit. Berbatov at least can control some longish bals with his back to goal and bring in Park and Rooney if they make good runs. I know Berbatov has been rubbish in the CL but I thought he was their best chance in this game. Valencia was also shite and I was wondering why he didn't play Nani until the prick came on and fucked up within seconds to finish the game off for Barca.

SO it looks like we may have seen the last of Nani, Barbatov, Owen, Scholes, van der Saar and even Giggs, which is nice because they're all loathsome cunts but will be a challenge to replace. I expect them to get the young, the gay, an attacking midfielder like Hamsik or Sneider, a centre half like Cahill or Subotic and a new attacking player like Alexis Sanchez.

And they'll be there or there about next season again, unless Ferguson retires.
 
The one thing about it that really pisses me off is that every united fan is trying to vindicate their loss saying that they lost to the best team ever...or that theres no shame in losing to a great footballing team....FUCK THAT!!!!!!!!!! Do you think those cunts would be saying the same shit if it was Liverpool and the pass and move football of years gone by that absolutely fucking destroyed them in a European cup final.....like fuck they would. Its interesting that both united and arsenal have met barcelona in big champions league games recently but still decided that they could win by playing their usual game, it's good for the neutrals and barcelona that they do this but perhaps a bit naive to keep repeating the mistake. I know it would probably be horrible to watch if they took a more mourinho or benitez approach and tried to park the bus or be very negative but it worked for inter in recent years, if you can't beat them maybe you should bore them? or just hire a sniper for messi...
 
Along with those who will retire in vds, scholes and possibly giggs the likes of berba (who didn't even make the bench and must be pissed) nani and possibly a few others will need to be replaced.
It's a lot of players that need to be replaced and makes it even more disgusting that they won the league this season.
They have been linked with young, modric and that Spanish keeper so far them and possibly one or two more and they are set to go again

I dont think van persie would've missed that chance. Thers not a whole lot between the english teams at the moment...if we step up next year with a winning attitude I reckon we can catch the lot of them!

The funny thing about it is that Arsenal were so much closer than the scum were. Had bedntner not lost his head in front of goal Barca wouldve been out! I dont think van persie would've missed that chance. Thers not a whole lot between the english teams at the moment...if we step up next year with a winning attitude I reckon we can catch the lot of them!

Yea it seems theres two ways to go against barca, try to out tippy tappy them (arsenal) or put them to sleep (inter). I'm glad arsenal didn't make the final though, fergie has them figured out on the big occasions.

I like the positivity, its exciting to think where a full season under kenny and a decent transfer window can take us

I think there's a third way - foul them as far from your goal as possible. This is the Madrid (Mourinho) way which they employed over the 4 games they had recently and which managed to "minimize the damages" for them. This also brought some of the worst stuff of the likes of Busquets, Alves and Pedro, so it hurt Barca's clean image. Having said that, I wouldn't like to see us playing like this.
 
Arsenal were also outplayed but were hampered by Fabregas being straight back from injury and rusty as hell and they badly missed the pace of Walcott as an out-ball. They definitely gave Barca a better game IMO but the ref didnt help!

They also didn't have a single shot on target during the whole match.

Barca are definitely awesome and have grown in confidence and experience since they last played Man U. In the last final between them many had united down as favourite s before the game, and if you go back 4 years the power and pace of the English champs league contigent was potent enough, players like Essien, Drogba, Gerrard, Ronaldo....

Now Barca do not have any challengers other than Real and they are a distant second IMO.

As for United they are still financially hamstrung in terms of buying their way back into competitiveness, put simply 60m will not buy them enough star quality to bridge the gap, it is refreshing to think that poor ol sir Alex will keep having to chase Bob's european record for a good long while.... Fergie is pretty much blameless in this to be fair, he got every last ounce out of the team that he had available but when your owners sell the second best player in the world for 80M and replace him with an over-priced but fairly average winger for 16M it's pretty obvious gravity is winning.

This is the best way imo.....mourinhos been successful with it and the dutch nearly pipped the spanish to the world cup using similar tactics. Theres more than one way to play football and kicking lumps out of barca to beat them may have to be the way forward!! Enter van bommel stage left and de jong stage right 😉
 
Last time we beat them (again) at their place, we just slipped Momo's leash and told him he could eat whatever he killed.
 
I'm sure scholes will be retiring giggs is past it vandasar gone Berbatosser going so they'll be replaced so a bit of spending in the summer but they'll be there or there abouts next season..

Gerard Pique showed why he is one of the best defenders in the world, Xavi the greatest midfielder of all time and Lionel Messi displayed the form that has made him the greatest player of all time.

They will have to use substantial funds just to replace what is leaving and in terms of quality of the first team and squad it will be an achievement just to stand still.

You still cannot write off their chances though I am tempted to do so on the basis that if I continue do so I will eventually be right, hopefully sooner rather than later. 😀

We'd lose, but we'd do better than the Mancs did last Saturday. It's not *that* long since we went to their place, with plenty of those players already playing successfully for them, and beat them.

I think Rafa's team of 2007 and 2008 would have given them a game, not sure about getting a result. That team really knew how to press with high intensity.

As for their aura of greatness, they will have it in the PL as long as Ferguson is there and his LMA cronies consider it the high point of their lives to come to Old Trafford and enjoy a glass of wine with him. Also Howard Webb and his cohorts may work over time next season to ensure that the aura continues.

Ferdinand and Vidic are better than him. He's good but not world class. Barca dont need world class defenders anyway, they had mascher there for their biggest game of the year...the key to their defence is in their midfield and in not being able to get the ball off the cunts!

Let's not kid ourselves JJ - playing Riijkard's Barca is not the same thing as playing Pep's Barca. That being said, with Rafa's team in its pomp, we would have competed.
