He had a poor game today. He put us in a hole that we exhausted ourselves climbing out because we are clueless.
He's older. If we want to preserve older players at their best, we need suitable options. We can get more out of him, less of the time.
Instead we opt to become more reliant on our players, precisely as they decline.
Is it shocking they are declining? No. Do they have backups? No. Do we manage their minutes? No.

He got Gomez injured did he? Just think about that. Yep. Gomez would have gone on to be a mainstay for us if only he didn't have to push himself to defend something after one game back.

We’re also overlooking how incredibly valuable VVD would be to 2-3 other CBs in their early 20s we could have learning from him. But we have him, Ibu and Joe.

Our issue was we didn’t go all out to get one (in January) and the other got injured.
So an 18 year old and a suspected replacement for Konate (who will probably leave on a free). So we still need 2 CBS (vvd leaves after a year, and Gomez might as well). The fact we didn't get Guehi means we arguably need 3 CBs now

Part of why frimpongs minutes are too heavy all at once is that he is a cover for two positions.

Agree but I can only assume the small fee we were paying for Guehi was all we could afford so we haven’t moved on anyone else since.
The guy is the captain, touch wood fit every game and has to turn for interviews when we are crap with dignity and class while there to be shot at every angle. What a guy, couldn't care less if he is declining like any human being, he is always there and still our best defender while rest are injured. Appreciate him for what he is now and what he was, it's not his fault club has again misplanned over seasons on squad managment.
