We might possibly make a little money on Mario

He got the first yellow for taking his shirt off after scoring. Fuck knows what the second was for.

Why always him?

Mario Balotelli’s red card is likely to be rescinded on Thursday, as the referee has admitted an error.

The Nice striker scored the winner against Lorient yesterday, and was booked for taking his shirt off in celebration.

That was to prove costly for the Italian, as he bizarrely received a second yellow after an altercation with Steven Moreira, where neither player appeared to do anything wrong.

“Olivier Thual has watched the match,” Pascal Garibian, technical director of refereeing, explained to L’Équipe.

“Of course, he agreed that the two yellow cards were rushed and shouldn’t have been given. The referee is available to the disciplinary committee to say this on record.

“Then it will be up to them to judge if further action is needed.”

It therefore appears overwhelmingly likely that the second yellow card for Balotelli will be rescinded when the commission meets on Thursday night, meaning he’d be available to face Lyon on October 14.

He's always been able to strike a ball well and will score goals in a team in a team which works hard around him or, as we're seeing, in a weaker league.

However it's clear no Premier League side were willing to pay a couple of million to take him off the hands. The risk was too great. Signing the 'wrong' player, especially in the striking position can be the difference between staying in the Premier League and dropping down to the Championship. Unfortunately for us but wisely for them, they concluded Mario was completely unsuitable to the demands of the Premier League. He's become a laughing stock in England and deservedly so.

Good for him if he can resurrect his career in France, but I certainly won't be blaming the club for releasing him on a free. Having someone completely with his lack of professionalism can prove toxic in a disciplined environment where hard work is seen an the minimum requirement. With that in mind, there won't be any regrets even if he does bang in 20 goals this year.

The enigma that is Balotelli. Grand that he is scoring goals. Hope he continues to so and his stock rises so that when he is sold we make a bob or too on him.

Who cares - the prick is someone else's problem now.
