We need a striker

On tonight's evidence we need a midfielder. I wasn't happy with the positioning of Can and Gini again, especially in the first half – they let Spartak pass their way through the middle of the pitch too easily. It was usually Lovren and Klavan who stepped in to break up attacks.

Really? Do we?
It is great when they all click - but lets be honest - mostly they don't and you rely on one of them clicking. If Studge leaves - we will definitely need a striker but I am in 100% agreement with @rurikbird - we need a strong midfielder - none of our main midfielders inspire any confidence when the opposition are getting at us and putting us under pressure. Some of their passing was very lazy today and overhit at times.

We need a cm capable of playing deep.

Can and Gini got totally bypassed duringevery half chance they had. Literally one ball would take both out of the game, time and time again.

A kante/mascherano type would have a far greater influence on this side than a vvd or whoever at CB

Kante doesn't usually stay too deep, does he? I think he's more of a roaming ball-winner – the best in the league in that role. Keita is a similar type (with more attacking quality), so what we need more is a Busquets/Alonso/Didi Hamann type – someone who prefers to stay deep, perhaps not the fastest runner, but excellent at reading the game and with playmaking ability. I keep waiting for Can to turn into that player, but I have to say his reading of the game and application disappoints me time and time again.

Turning the conversation back to strikers, here's a list of LFC goal-scorers as of today (all competitions):

Salah – 23 games, 18 goals (99mins per goal)
Firmino – 22 games, 12 goals (144 mins/goal)
Coutinho – 14 games, 9 goals (117 mins/goal)
Mane 15 games, 7 goals (159 mins/goal)

Assists: Coutinho and Milner – 7, Firmino and Salah – 6, Mane – 5.

Milner should be LB until we buy a better one.

We do need a striker 100%

Tonight we scored what 7 goals from 12 efforts.

We are not normally as clinical and that's what we miss in Firmino, that killer instinct in tight games where you may only get one chance

We do, actually, need a clinical striker who will convert that one chance in a very tight game. We don't at the moment. If we had, we would have not been humiliated at The Etihad or Wembley. We'd probably have got all three points in Moscow, at Watford and against Burnley at Anfield not to mention the draws against the skanks and the chavs. All hypothetical, of course, but ...

Klopp doesnt want a dm. He wants a cm capable of shielding the back four whe were out of posession, something a kante type does for chelsea. I dont think an alonso type is rightnfor this side, we need athleticism, the two cb/ back three press high up and when the ball is lost we have noone capable / in position if the press fails.

We do need another striker because Sturridge needs replacing and Solanke is not ready to be relied upon just yet.

However, it's less important than it was because Salah has surpassed all expectations and Firmino is scoring more than he ever has previously.

We've scored about a billion goals in the last month, do we fuck need a striker. We've never really had a problem scoring goals under Klopp, it the jokers at the back and in goal.

Are we better with him in the squad? If the answer is yes. Then we should sign him.

why? When he won't get a game. And we seem to have no problem scoring.
Don't get me wrong, I'd have no problem landing a top notch daddy striker, but the way we play at the moment is all about the front three or four as a unit. None of them are selfish. Even studge has learnt that trait.
I can't see any top striking talent coming to us to not be a regular starter. Bobby is central to Klopps team and is scoring well too. The whole front unit is flying.

I think Klopp really does need a genuine alternative to playing Firmino up top.

It appears that he has found one in Salah (who has featured up front in recent games) and it provides us with a lot more flexibility.

I guess we'll see over the course of the season how that pans out and whether we need more or not.

If we end the season with the choice being Firmino vs Sturridge or Solanke, then my guess is yeah, we need another forward.

Though naturally the first priority is sorting out our systemic issues in midfield and defence.

I just think if we sort our midfield, our defence might click into place and, therefore, so might our keeper. That would be my area to prioritise. Keita great, get 2 more worldies.

I think yesterday demonstrated why need another option who is more clinical in front of goal.

The one player in the squad who is instinctively suited to attacking the box and exploiting any loose ball or any slip by a keeper is Ings, so I hope he gets a few chances to really push on now he's fit. He can score from outside the box as well, but that ability to score scrappy goals from close in is something we've been missing since, I guess, Kuyt left.

Beginning of the season Salah was constantly scoring tap ins. Now we seem to be relying on him to spring the attack with runs from deep

Whether that's down to marking or a specific choice by the manager I don't know

I whole heartedly agree with ings starting however. I'd be in favour of rotating mane and firmino (either putting coutinho wide or behind Inga depending). But that's probably more down to my recent annoyance with our inability to fucking score against shite

No team is that clinical on a consistent basis.
