Simply not good enough, not by a long, long way; he really needed to win this, an unkind fixture list could see Rodgers under immense early pressure. Not good.

dont know about you all but I am really shitting myself with regard to the next few days. An international now would help !!!

We're only one game in but i'm really not getting why Borini's played out on the left - he's a central striker, not a tricky winger.
Don't take this the wrong way but do you think before you post? I mean not getting it after 1 game, the first game as well???? Sheesh

(borini scored from lwf too against gomel)

Not saying he can't score from the left, he's proven he can.

Point i'm making is, he's a striker and when the ball's floating around the box, he's stuck out on the left when it would make more sense for him to be in and around the box ready to pounce.

Would like to see him more centrally, that's my opinion anyway.

And it's a great option

BUT our system doesn't rely on wingers staying wide. The need to cut in and interchange is what it's all about

And that is correct. The 4-3-3 system is narrow and compact. It relies on a high line, short inter-changing passes and hunting in packs to get the ball back if we don't have it. What we saw today was a mixture of what Dalglishs team played with players too far from each other and elements of what Rodgers want.

It'll take time to iron out the old habits. Hopefully today's drubbing makes it happen quicker. I know 'hope' is not a solution so I'm gonna say 'it'll better'.

Oddly enough I also think we'll do ok in the next few games purely because the players will be more up for it. Which was also a Liverpool habit.

Or the players have to play better.
They arent good enough though.
They finished 8th last year.
Allen and Borini arent a significant improvement on Kuyt, Maxi, Bellamy and Adam are they?
Arent they just similar level of players but younger and cheaper?
Allen from Swansea. Borini from Swansea via Roma.
Im not sure about the new lad Assaidi obviously.
But is this significantly going to improve us?
Have we suddenly got a cutting edge? Have we suddenly got goals in us?

I worry that we signed another CM to replace our CMs. I worry that we are still after another CM.
We need better attacking players.
We need Hazards, Van persies, Cazorlas. We got Allens.

According to the Ryan Allen is the bees knees.

And I think I prefer your postings when you was a Mod.

Im zen me mate.
Its a bollocks kick in the teeth to start the season off obviously, but a red card and TWO pens tell the story of why its 3-0.

The situation regarding the lack of goals is what should improve as they play more together, so there is no panic.
We need to show patience and support the rebuild. Its a long season.

Didn't see the game but sounded like we controlled the first half but let down by some sloppy finishing. That's a little infuriating

Borini's fine, Downing is the problem, however Assiadi can displace him and provide us with a more direct threat. Lucas was also off the pace today, but thats completely down to him only just returning, as he becomes fitter both he and Allen will look better.

And a wonder goal just before half time.

Suarez finishes one of his chances and it could have been a different story.

We all know we have to get hold of a couple of extra matchwinners. We'll see where we are on that front in a couple of weeks time.

I haven't seen the game today but the first 11 wasn't far off what most posters had in mind. I personally would have gone with Robinson had Enrique not been fit. I think he'd have done ok and it would have given every young kid at the club a boost thinking they may get a chance this season. Sterling would have been on my bench as well instead of one of the centre minds. Different options n all. Having said that they may get a go in the Hearts game which will more than likely be a disjointed performance with loads of changes.

I must admit that defeat knocked the stuffing out of me , i took it way harder then i should considering it's only the first game of the season.
It's just so frustrating that no matter what we change , we always seem to make the same mistakes . I mean i look at the team and individually i think the players aren't so bad , they have strengths and qualities but collectively it just doesn't seem to work . And they've obviosly soft as once that goal went in you knew we were fucked .

It's so tiring that we turn up and give shite clubs like WBA a great day out , let them come away with a great result while their shite fans take the piss out of us . I think that was the worst part , most of yesterday's problems weren't down to formation , tactics or subs ....they just wanted it a hundred times more .

That's the thing. We're so soft. As soon as the first goal went in, the heads dropped. No heart, no fight and it's the first day of the season for fucks sake.

It almost seems like they feel like they're owed the rewards of being at a big club but aren't quite prepared to fight for them. The Liverpool of 4 / 5 years ago is gone and the players have to realize they want to get back to the top they need to dig in and make it happen.

Then again perhaps I'm just projecting and that's my feelings as a fan! Who knows.

It's hard to draw conclusions from today. Everyone who watched was given ample confirmation of the weaknesses we've been noting for a while.

I think it's clear that we have far poorer players than we had in Rafa's penultimate year. We've bought poorly. We're light years from man city's squad and far behind several others.

Several of our 'great' players either haven't been great for several years (Reina, Gerrard, Johnson) or are capable of having as many awful games as they have great ones (Suarez, Lucas, Skrtel, Agger).

Even after leaving and having mixed fortunes on their travels, Torres, Mascherano, Alonso, Benayoun, Arbeloa would walk into the team we put out today.

very true gene , very true . And it's frustrating because we've spent decent enough amounts but we just don't seem to be able to find the same quality of player .

It's a long way to the top if you want to rock n roll , that's for sure.

Allen (15) Adam (10) Aqualani (20) Henderson (15)

That's 60m unsuccessfully trying to find one good central midfielder to play with Lucas and Gerrard.

Carroll (35) Suarez (20) Borini (15) represents 70m spent trying to replace Torres's goals.

Maybe they'll all come good. Who knows?
