West Brom vs Liverpool POST MATCH AUTOPSY

Someone should explain to Glen Johnson how to take a throw in. I think we lost the ball 5 out of 6 times when he tried to "find" a team mate.

another thing that really irritated is that we just couldn't live with their pressing and the pace they were playing at , especially when they got their tails up after the goal . That's what you come up against week in week out in the premier league , teams who even if they don't have world class talents will play the game at a hundred miles an hour . And we looked like a team who didn't expect it at all and didn't know how to deal with it when we really should.

Slightly encouraging comments from Agger re how optimistic he is and how he's playing down the result:

When asked if he plans to contest the red card Agger said: 'Of course. I've seen it again on television and there is no contact. Referees are only human. They make mistakes as well.

Marching orders: Agger leaves the pitch after being shown a straight red

'I was unlucky to be involved in one of the mistakes. It’s frustrating but that’s part of the game.'
It was a chastening afternoon for new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers who watched his side crash to defeat at the Hawthorns. But Agger believes his team can and will come back stronger.
'I know we will bounce back from this,' added Agger. 'I think we controlled the game before the sending-off. We had the momentum, we kept the ball well and we created chances. The red card changed the game.'
At Liverpool, the spotlight is always there. There is no reason to panic. Everyone is frustrated. I don't think the result was right. It doesn't really make sense. But that's football and it happens.

'We have to continue. We showed a bit of the football we want to play. The manager said the same - that we controlled the game, created some chances and were a bit unlucky with some decisions.'

I'd rather he said we were shit and that he fucked up and they were going to wake up and improve rather than arrogantly suggest it was a quirk of fate.

Yeah we were great against Utd, Blackpool and Everton....

Why was that the previous manager's fault, and not the 'half-wit's' fault? So your position is: if the team wins, it's down to the new manager, if the team loses, it's down to the previous manager. Brilliant.

The team used to be fairly good at coping with going down to ten, but in the last few years it falls apart completely after a red. The mentality is all wrong.

As I said on the day of the game, I doubt Rodgers has had time to drill playing his zonal formation (which is what he plays, despite the press & fans saying 4-3-3) when down to 10 men.

We at lest managed to paper over the cracks on occasion in the past. Not sure we'll be doing much of that this season, but i hope I'm wrong and we buy some decent players and get rid of the shite. I sincerely hope he has a buyer for Downing and another winger on the way in. Just another in a long line of players who seem to be weighed down by the shirt instead of inspired by it.
