Where is everybody, still no thread for tomorrow?

I think West Ham will be a difficult test - on paper they are set up perfectly to exploit our usual weaknesses: physical defenders who are comfortable to defend deep for 90 minutes if necessary, genuine quality on the counter in Arnautovic and Joao Mario or Lanzini, a poacher up front, a goalkeeper capable of inspired performances (I mean Adrian, of course), the usual threat on set pieces... They will be missing some attacking threat in Masuaku, who is suspended, and physical “plan B” up front in Andy Carroll, but overall I think it will be one of the harder home games this season.

In terms of tactics fortunately our usual 4-3-3 works quite well against 3-5-2, so it will be up to Moyes to try to devise something different. I think we’ve won every game against 3-5-2 this season except Chelsea and Swansea; surely Moyes will be looking at the latter in particular for inspiration. For that reason I think there is almost no chance Oxlade (who started vs Swansea and was ineffective) will play from the start in this game.

Klopp promised that “the strongest players will play” from now on until the end of the season, so this selection will reveal a lot about his thinking and priorities. Key questions:
1. Trent or Gomez? It would seem that Gomez would be better physically equipped to deal with the threat of Arnautovic, but Trent did perform excellently in his absence and perhaps has just earned his place.
2. Who will miss out between Hendo, Gini and Can? That’s going to be a tough and consequential selection, especially if the captain is the one to miss out. Let’s see if Can’s contract situation has any influence on this.
3. Which attack-minded midfielder will join the front four? I think we are talking about 1 place up for grabs between Lallana, Oxlade and Milner. Based on recent form, Milner should win it hands down, but who knows if the training camp in Marbella changed anything. For sure after all these training sessions Lallana should be fitter than before and given his potential importance to this team in the run-in is it the time for his first start?

Prediction (based on absolutely nothing):
————————Karius————————
Trent———Lovren——Van Dijk-—-Robbo
————————-Hendo———————-
————Gini———————Lallana——-
Salah—————Firmino—————-Mane

Totally agree with the team, TAA better attacking and crosses, Gini at home, Lallana for that extra degree of ingenuity and guile that may create space.

Don't really think Arnautovic and Lanzini are genuine quality either, both can be great on the ball but miss a hatful of chances.

So in the end, I doubt it's going to be a tough one, 2-0 or maybe 3-0, comfortable but not spectacular.

Hang on, you're saying our players spent the last week in Marbella? I agree with all of the analysis, but I think we're fucked.

Whenever we have all of the following :
1. Plenty of time to prepare;
2. Inferior opposition; and
3. Rivals losing points,

We inevitably fuck up.

I can feel it.

The crowd will be expecting us to blow them away from the start whilst West ham will set out to frustrate us with 9 players behind the ball. I predict a 2-0 with an early second half goal followed by a late breakaway when they start chasing the game. Patience and sticking to our style of play will be key.

Last time everyone was confident and thought we’d batter Swansea, we lost.

Will be a tricky game this. Hope we’re ON from the start or else I fear an early conceded goal.

I get tix for a client for a game every year and the last four years we've drawn each match. Just off to meet him now.

Our record against West ham at Anfield is shite.

Our record is against Moyes is boss.

Our record after having 5 days or more break between games is boss.

Therefore, I think we'll still twat them.

No good feeling today. I think we will struggle to break them down. Hopefully we can scrap a shit goal and follow up with a few classic counters.

Now whilst we can satisfy ourselves with the stat that Moyes has never won at Anfield, he still has been excellent at getting draws at our place. His record with all teams at Anfield is 7 losses and 7 draws. So he's 50/50 for getting something at Anfield, which must be better than a number of his peers. With the news of Woland's Jonah client, get your money on a draw.

Next few games are where we really need to get it nailed, give West Ham and Newcastle a beating and everything is in our hands when we face United.

I'm sure there's a memento to his 7 draws in his infamous trophy cabinet.

Nah. If we don't get on the scoreboard early then I think this side now has enough patience to keep wearing them down before getting the goals later on.

Our record against sides outside of the top six is the best in the league bar City. Us fans seem to only remember the exceptions (myself included) it seems.

Well it's been a recurrent issue since the days of Benitez, frustrating home draws against the dregs of the league. Thankfully we seem to have got over it (touch wood).

Got over it? We've had loads this season. Everton, West Brom, Spurs, Manure, Chelsea - so like half our home games or something.

Yeah, but Spurs, United and Chelsea aren't the "dregs" of the league, not in terms of quality anyway.

Are Spurs, Manure, Chelsea the dregs of the PL ? Unlucky in all (bar Spurs perhaps) but that isn\t really the point (and WBA was the FAC).

I think we really do look a lot better than the first half of the season though (cough VvD).

West Brom was the league. They beat us in the cup.

I dunno, it feels like a load more home draws than usual this year.

I'd like to see:

---------------Karius----------------
TAA---Lovren---VVD----Robbo
----------------Can-----------------
--------Hendo----Oxlade------- I only want to see Hendo if he isn't played as a DM.
Salah------Firmino-------Mane

I wouldnt be surprised to see Lallana start, or Gini. But with Hendo fit I think we all know that a Can, Hendo & Gini three is more miss than it is hit.

Is Gomez fit?

By the way we should twat them... West Ham do my fucking head in. I'm backing 3-0 on the basis we get off to a good start.
