Whereas a few years ago there seemed to be a dearth of young wide players there now seem to be a few that are widely tippd to make a big impact when they move to a big club.

I really hope we sign one of them (even if we do get Young), but as I've not seen much of any bar the odd game, I'm interested to garner opinions. YouTube compilations are of course welcome.

They're all pacey, they're all skillful... who will be the best or best for us?

I would love to sign any of the name mentioned above but plumped for Neymar. He seems to have that star quality and could be a catalyst for a title charge. Already embedded in the national team and is due a move this summer.

is neymar a true winger though? he seems to be just behind the front man when i've seen him

i plumped for hazard.

Heh, I was half tempted to put a disclaimer in the post about the winger description as it always gets picked up on.

I don't think any are traditional chalk on their boots wingers, but I wanted to limit the discussion to pacey skillful players that can beat defenders and exclude strikers like Aguero. Neymar for example will probably be asked to play out wide in whichever team he ends up with.

fairs enough, that changes it for me somewhat. Hazard is best "classic" winger, neymar is the best player though

I'd be very very happy if we signed any of them but I chose Sanchez mainly because he's already delivering in Serie A. Plus Chile is just cooler than other nationalities on offer.

I don't buy this Neymar love yet. It's all based on youtube, isn't it? Denilson would've looked good on youtube too.

I'd go for Hazard because I've seen him a few times.

Out of the list I'd go for Hazard. I think we can do worse than sign tried and tested Premiership performers such as Young and/or Downing, good team players. I also like the idea of signing Affelay, having the best two players from the Eredivisie in recent years would be quite a coup.

Either way I think Kenny will sign two wingers.

Yeah, these 4 are definitely the best of the bunch out there currently. If I had to pick one, it'd be Douglas Costa as I've been bigging him for a while now. I think he has the most complete game of the lot - loads of pace and flair but a lot of game intelligence and unselfishness as well.

But I'd be happy with any of them.

Being a star in Holland isn't exactly the sign of approval though.
No, but Suarez and Kuyt haven't done too badly and Affelay is a good player who represents good value if the £10m figure quoted is accurate.

For every Suarez there's a Kezman.

i've not really got a clue who's the best overall player, but i went for hazard because i just love watching that combination of speed, balance and close control he's got - it's the most thrilling in sight in the game, imo. it was why i'd always have picked messi over ronaldo even when the greasy bender had a much better record of goals and assists, and hazard's the closest thing i've seen to messi's dribbling ability currently playing the game.

I've went for Neymar, obvs, but any of these guys would be amazing. Let's face it though, we're more likely to sign Downing.

Agreed. But there have been flops from Serie A and other leagues too. Do we not sign players from other leagues because other players have flopped? For every Kezman there's a Bergkamp. We could go on and on.

Not many success stories from italy though. It's quite hilarious

Cant think of many more than them.

Downing is a good player and whilst not as exotic as other names being mentioned, he'd be good for us he's underrated in my opinion.

i agree. But the problem being is that people want more than a player who can "do a job" which he can. He's not spectacular enough to be winning us games, but i'd be more than happy to have him as long as we seriously strengthened all over the park

I think he's underrated too TBH, and he'd definitely improve us. Suarez has shown us though that star quality makes a huge difference at this level, and Downing, good as he is, hasn't got stardust on his boots like this list. Signing one of these players fills the entire squad with excitement, the fans too, it sends out a statement of intent. Buying Downing doesn't do that. It is the sort of signing that had Torres phoning his agent.

Ha ha. I guess what I'm trying to say is we should be careful about signing these 'fan-favourite' type players. I wouldn't want us to become a team with egos or with players who think of themselves before the team. If they have the attitude of Suarez I'd be happy. I think a team should always be greater than the sum of its parts. Dalglish won the League with Wilcox & Ripley who hardly had stardust on their boots, but they were wholly effective for them. Sometimes the idea of these players is greater than the reality. Having said that, I'd take Hazard in a heartbeat, he's special. I have no idea what his attitude is like, but he's loyal to his club which is a good sign.

I went for Hazard off that list Ken.
But i'll be honest i think Young would be the best fit for us.
Carroll with Suarez in behind and Young and Deadly either side with Gerrard and a.n.other deep represents a huge step in the right direction.
I think that some people (not thinking of anyone in particular) are discounting our form with Carroll and Suarez in the team as 'the Kenny factor' and not (maybe) realising how close we are as an offensive team to being damn near perfect. Young added to our team offers just multiple threat from all over the pitch.
Then i think CB and LB should be looked at, and if theres any money left a proper DM.
We're linked with too many attackers in my opinion, we've scored in like 30 games on the spin or something daft like that. A bit of solidity and a kick ass LW (young) is where its at.

I've never been overly impressed with Ashley Young. He has talent but, like lots of wingers, drifts in and out of games and lacks a decent final ball.

Neymar makes Young look like Nunez.

I'd be mentally happy with Lennon & Young.

English, young and capable.

Get the pair for under £30m and you're laughing.
He plays in a shite Villa team. That was ultra defensive under o'neill and has been laughable since. He's got bags of talent. Maybe not the skill of Neymaaa but goals, set pieces and assists.

I don't doubt he has talent mate. I just doubt his overall commitment and, more importantly, his final ball.
