The whole question of stats is a tricky one. I instinctively distrust them (who can ever know if they're genuinely reliable, whatever the source?) but the likes of Michael Edwards and the excellence of his heavily stats-based work at LFC suggest it would be a mistake to discount them altogether.
Mustafi's first few games for the Arse suggested he might be a decent player. He's gone off the rails spectacularly since but maybe the "new manager bounce" with Arteta could help him improve again, tho' any suggestion that his quality is even on the same planet as Virgil's belongs in a "Harry Potter" book.
