The fact the rumour was we had done an unveiling video with him in our kit is gut wrenching.

Not to me. In a year people will be saying look at x , playing at (insert team in mid table here), why didn't we buy him.

Try to buy him. We have three cbs we need to buy in the next 4 windows. Some of them will be a bust. We don't need to buy as though one is the VVD replacement, and one is the konate replacement etc. We can just buy them and see who works out and who is good.

Same with this stupid "this is the defense rebuild window" "this is the midfield rebuild." No. No no no. Buy players here and there, anticipate needs, don't let problems build.

The other thing about our whole stupid "we only want this player, we want the right player, we won't buy in a panic" thing...

We mostly DON'T get the fucking player anymore!

Hmm… Didn’t we get Wirtz (also wanted by Man City)? And Tekkers (wanted by Newcastle) and Isak?

I didn't want the homophobe anyway. Only armband he would worn with us would have been rainbow one anyway so he probably said no.

City and Bayern walked away laughing at the size of the fee Leverkusen wanted. We got Tekkers because Newcastle needed to sell Isak first.

Guehi will be on 300k per week at City.
Give the financials around that deal I can see why we didn’t move.

They walked away cause he wanted to join us. The other stuff is just a media spin

Our spin is he only wanted us because Slot showed him a power point presentation.

He didn’t choose us. There was nowhere else to go. We were the only team to bid what Leverkusen wanted.

City seen the price and went fuck that and signed Cherki for about a third the price.

objectively it’s not a great deal but you can also go back a season when newcastle were trying to buy him for 60m and say he’s probably improved since then.

so stepping away from the contract length and looking at the players value they’re getting him for half price and using that to bump his wages. at a time when they need a cb.

Yeah, City are well know for being prudent with spending.

They spend a lot but it's a fair point as it's quite rare for them to cough up 100M+ on transfers. They 'appear' to be sensible.

Aside from Grealish, who have they spent 100M+ (or close to it) on?

Yeah, they haven't spent 100+ plus outside of Grealish, but they spend a lot on lots of players that they don't necessarily need. And they spend a lot more of salaries. I don't think they have a strategy to not spend 100m+, they spend often, and spend lots of money.

Sensible? In € since January 2025:
75 mill on Marmoush, 60 on Nico Gonzalez, 40 mill Kushanov, 37 mill on Reis (19 year old CB out on loan), 72 mill on Semenyo, 55 mill on Reijnders, Ait Nouri 36 mill, Cherki 36 mill, Trafford 31 mill, Donnarumma 30 mill.

And now when they get two injured CBs you sign Guehi for 20 mill +, 300k wages, massive sign on fee.

500 mill on mostly squad players the last 12 months. Sensible my arse. They’re laughing at the rest of the league with 115 charges.

300k? sounds like media spin. Are you sure? Even in the summer I don't see anyone paying that unless with hefty signing on fee.

Its been reported several places that they matched the offers he had on the table for a free transfer move this summer
