Xabi Xabi la vie

Xabi's always struck me as a thoroughly decent, down to earth human being, and real student of the game. He must have hated what he was dealing with over there.

He can't be that thoughtful. Dreamy could have worked out he was going to have to deal with similar issues.

This simply isnt true though. Flick and Xabi had the exact same start to their managerial careers at Barca and Real.

Xabi has the 4th best win percentage of any Real Madrid manager in the 21st century.
So far this season his Real team was 4th for pressed sequences, 2nd for high turnovers forced and 1st for shots from these turnovers. All this with the likes of Vini jr and Mbappe being difficult to manage.
They are top for conceded goals even with all the injuries, so his defensive side of the game has been good.

No way this can been seen as a failure.

If you read all the stuff that happened behind the scenes you'd understand. Perez tried to force people onto his training staff etc.
Not being top of the La Liga, not winning the World Club Cup and losing a domestic trophy to Barca = failure at Real Madrid regardless of how unfair that is.
Nobody will ever look back at this spell and say it was anything other than a failed move for him. Well except you clearly 😅

To be fair. Thay dressing room is toxic.

Vini Jr, Mbappe, Bellingham, Rodrygo.. to name but a few egos.

Its well rumoured that towards the end Ancelotti just let the team do what they wanted and regularly had stars miss a training session or two.

Alonso tried to stop that, plus implement a more pressing system. Which the Real players didn't want.

Am I surprised it ended like this? No.
But to say he failed after half a season when Real are still in the CL and 5 points off the top is hyperbole.
Every man and his dog knew that before he went there.

And if you think being second in La Liga to Barcelona and losing a trophy to them is anything but failure at that club then I don’t think you’ve been paying attention. The bar is higher there than anywhere. They’ve sacked managers in the past for winning the league. Xabi was a failure in Madrid terms.

I gather you don't read much besides the Melbourne Gazette then.

That's incorrect dude. What he did at Leverkusen was amazing. I don't even like the guy but I've gotta respect him.
As a Liverpool fan I should have stated.

Many feared it’d be another 30 years post Klopp before we won a title and Slot did it straight off the bath. That trumps winning in Germany for me.

I’ll care even less for Xabi when takes over from Pep.

We can have Enrique please!

I’m sure Real fans the world over are talking today bout the successful spell Xabi had in charge 😅😅😅

It seems that most of the footballing World seem to think he has been treated unfairly, and most articles/tweets etc are about how good the results have been so far.

All in all, its not seen as a failure and no serious team would have any qualms about hiring him.

Let’s see. His Bayer L team went backwards and now he’s walked away from Madrid which I don’t think he would have done as WCC champions, top of La Liga by 5pts and Super Cup winners.

He’s still a gamble for any big team and definitely for us without the players for 3-5-2.

Ahhhh yes. Beating the Bayern monopoly was nothing.
Didn’t say it wasn’t but for me giving us our second title in 35 years was bigger and post Klopp. Wtf have Utd done post Ferguson. Arsenal post Wenger. Winning no20 was massive.

He set that Real team up mainly playing 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. And got those results.

A tournament they didn’t even want to enter! Maybe we should be after Maresca seeing as he won the thing and, oh, lost his job for doing crap.

Our second title in 6 years. Don’t be one of those mongy fans of other clubs. Winning 20 was a perfect storm for Slot. Don’t be making out he did anything amazing to do it. If he is so amazing why are we so shit right now?
