  3. Suarez
  4. Torres
  5. Mane
  6. Bobby

Grew up on Robbie - tough not to put him 1st though I think once Salah scores 20-30 next year, he'll jump over both God & Suarez.

1. God
2. Suarez
3. Salah
4. Torres
5. Owen

Interesting how Torres is above Salah for some people. Just went and checked some stats.
Currently Salah has 92 goals in 145 appearances, while Torres had 81 in 142.
Big difference in assists, with Salah having 35 with Torres getting 16.

So Salah has a superior record in goals scored, and created twice as many goals for others.
For me Salah has been phenomenal and ranks above Torres.

Some strikers have a certain inevitability about them. You almost expect them to score in every game. In the 80s Rush certainly had this, but in the era we are talking about, all of the players I have listed in that top 5 had that for varying periods. Mane would be a close 6th at the moment.

On ability, Firmino is one hell of a player, but for me this is about strikers and scoring goals. I always had a bit of a soft spot for Collymore as well. He was quick, strong and had a wonderful technique. It was a real shame it didn't work out for him, as he could have easily been a top player. Heskey to a point as well. In 2000/01 he was fantastic but I don't think he had the confidence that he should have had.

Although I had Salah ahead of Torres, compare the two teams and how they played footy ... Salah in that team, and Torres in this team, would see what kind of #s for both?

It's hard to say, as Torres's team was tailored for him with Gerrard and Alonso pulling their magic. Not sure Torres's style and workrate would work at all for our current side. We create a shitload because of our counter pressing, starting with the forwards. I think it's why, as phenomenal as he was at his peak, he could only get into the Spanish side as an impact sub.

There's also the point that Torres was just so wonderful to watch. You could tell he was a different class.

He and Suarez are still the most gifted players I've seen play for us.

I asked the question within a previous post, I had exempted Fowler from the list due to emotional attachment people have. The only reason I have put Salah ahead of Fowler was because we have won big things Salah.

Why is no-one doing a top 10. You'll get more questionable choices if you extend it to to 10

Fair point

Top 10s are for geniuses.
I'm too busy working with Brain to conquer the internet to fill out the rest.

Salah (only 'prem' title, can't be questioned soz)
Mane (same, his winning energy carried us further than most)
Fowler (our first great striker in this era)
Suarez (the one who made us believe)
Torres (the one who brought us joy)
Owen (for 2001)
Firmino (the team player Benitez would have loved)
Origi (without him, football is nothing)
Sturridge (his pure talent was not enough)
Kuyt (a worker, not a winner)

Depends what you're going for... pure ability, goalscoring record, longevity, connection with the fans, success... a mixture of all the above...

My personal top 10 would be something like:

Suarez
Salah
Mane
Fowler
Torres
Owen
Firmino
Sturridge
Heskey
Kuyt

Some of those aren't out and out strikers, and some are in for different reasons.

The order could change, but I think Suarez would still be number 1. He, along with Gerrard, was the most outrageously talented player I'd seen at the club. One of the best players on the planet at the time.

Stick Suarez and Gerrard in this Liverpool team and it wouldn't even be fair.

Salah is surely in that bracket? How many times has Salah gone past 2-4 opposition players as if they weren't there? Very few players can put 4 players to ground with a quick turn.

I actually don't think Salah beats his man very often, it's one of the few very small disappointments I've had with him.

He beats his first man almost every time. The issue is when he tries to get past the 2nd, 3rd and 4th defender. But then he has such quick feet that nobody properly tackles him, which means the ball usually doesn’t get booted out and trickles / ricochets around the area and ends up at one of our players’ feet, thus creating a chance for us.
He frustrates me but is such an incredibly effective player.

I have a soft spot for "natural finishers," the likes of Raul, Huntelaar, Klinsmann, there is something magical about how some strikers manage to score again and again without having any speed or size advantage over defenders or displaying flashy technique. I regret not being able to watch Fowler in his prime; I'm sure I would have loved him.

Salah
Suarez
Fowler
Torres
Owen

If you're talking as a Liverpool player then for me the Salah v Suarez debate was over when we won in Madrid. Suarez never delivered a major title for Liverpool. Since then Salah has gone on to break all sorts of records which leaves Suarez in his wake. Its not even close anymore in my opinion.

I guess its a bit like those Utd fans who rate Cantona ahead of Ronaldo or VanNistlerooy. Its based on emotion not logic, Suarez was an emotional player. Salah is in contention for his 3rd straight golden boot, thats a level of performance that very few players ever reach. People dont care, yet the same people will get misty eyed about the time Suarez demolished Norwich as if thats the pinnacle of sporting achievements.

STRIKERS?
1. Ian Rush
2. Fowler
3. Suarez
4. Torres
5. Owen
6. Firmino
7. Sturridge
8. The rest....

That's as far as I could go. And Salah + Mane are not a STRIKER!

How is Suarez a striker, but not Salah? I think most are judging it on their ability to score goals, what do you think a striker is?

Obviously numbers are very important, but they're not the only thing.

I think Suarez was a better player than Salah even though he wasn't as prolific. I actually think Torres was as well.

The poster above who cited those crazy Utd fans who rate Cantona above Ronaldo and Van Nistelrooy... er well I for one agree with them. Cantona was fucking huge for that club. Won the title 4 out of his 5 years there, including their first for 26 years. The other one they'd have probably won if he hadn't got himself banned. He was a force of nature.
