Chamberlain; Flanagan, Wisdom, McGiveron, Robinson; Roberts, Coady; Buchtmann, Adorjan, Ince; Ngoo.

Halftime, 1-0 (Ince).

Ince has been very good up and down the left side. Robinson and Roberts have been lively, too.

We're very much the stronger and more composed side.

2-0 Adorjan - a compatriot of Nemeth's - scores a Fowleresque goal, jinking into the penalty area, opening himself up and placing the ball in really nicely.

I thought Buchtmann was a defender. Wrong?
Left winger learning the the art of defending at left back apparently.

Back to blackpool preston, who's thia chap who just did a handcuff celebration abd why?
Former Sunderland player Ross Wallace, he's very effective at this level.

On SKY they were implying it might be an X_Factor celebration.

By the way , this was deserving of at least a "Haha". SG was searching for Wisdom so I posted a link to the game with "seek and you shal........................

Fuck it, you don't deserve me.

Finished 2-0. A very soild performance, with plenty of promising efforts.

Robinson - already rated by England under 16/17 coaches, he impressed again tonight. Confident, sharp and showed good vision. Good defensively and going forward. One of the contenders for MOM.

Flanagan: Right-sided defender, but really one to watch. He's lots to learn but he's a really tenacious player - he was reminiscent of Steve McMahon when he tried to nick the ball off a Wolves player - and he gets forward well without forgetting his main duties. He looks very committed, very competitive and keen to progress.

Andre Wisdom: central defender today (but he can play right back, right winger, too), fairly pacy and good at anticipating movement and very strong. He looks decent.

Buchtmann: left-sided winger cum defender, this time playing on the right of midfield for much of the game. He moves the ball around quickly and is solid in the tackle.

Roberts: in central midfield, chose the right ball much of the time, hitting the odd long ball to the wings and threading through some nice crisp passes to the forwards.

Ince: played mainly on the left but switched sometimes to the right. Defensively responsible and quick to move forward. Very lively, very sharp, quite clever, and scored a well-deserved goal. He's steadily improving.

Ngoo: Crouch-like in terms of height, Heskey-like in terms of touch. It's early days for him, and he does cause defenders problems (he scared one defender into hacking him over on the edge of the area), but he needs to improve his technique. If he develops and learns he'll be an interesting option for both the youth and reserve team.

Adorjan: an old-style number 10, linking up well with the centre forward, finding space well and scored a really mature goal with a very calm and clinical finish. He's quite slight but he's no mug, and can be cute and slip in a tough challenge when he wants to. Got booked for dishing out a bit of retribution on one defender. Replaced late on by Adam Pepper (who wasn't fit enough to start).

Thanks macca. Its very interesting to read about players who are hopefully going to play a part in our future. What round of the competition was this? And I know this is very subjective, but how would you compare this team to the youth sides of previous seasons?

It's the third round. The youth team haven't really looked settled perhaps due to all the changes in the summer, and they've underperformed - so tonight was a welcome move back to form. The squad looks better, IMHO, than in earlier seasons, but the actual first XI so far lacks the cohesion and understanding of the last cup winning bunch.
