How good is Carlos Bacca? (Seville striker who scored two last night including the winner). I've noticed him scoring throughout the season in La liga but haven't watched him play full games. He has 34 goals in 71 La Liga games. Could he be the next player on the Seville conveyor belt exiting the club? He's 28 years old and the internet tells me he is contracted until 2018 with a €30 million release clause. I presume his wages aren't excessive as Unai Emery claimed he couldn't compete with Hull's wages in a deal for Gaston Ramirez.

Looks a good player, but probably not a great idea to go after a 28 year old who's never played in England.

La Liga has historically had a lot of these middling strikers who've done very well there, but failed in England - Forlan, Kanoute, Vela.

I'd avoid.

I wouldn't go for anybody unless my crystal ball said they're absolutely guaranteed to hit the ground running and score loads. Patience is needed.

Meanwhile I'm continuing to rearrange the deckchairs.

I thought this briefly last night. Then saw his age and then watched the first YouTube compilation I came across and he looked a bit shit.

Pass

Big fat pass so far.

I'm not advocating signing him btw as I've no idea how good he is. Just throwing his name into the mix.

Never seen him play.

He's a 1 in 2 striker all through his career which is impressive enough and he's maintained it when changing leagues.

But plenty better than him have arrived in the Premiership in their late twenties and failed.

It's down to price. And he's not going to be available for anything close to a figure that would make it a reasonable gamble

He's ace. I'd love us to sign him. His age and fee is the biggest concern obvioulsy.

Wouldnt worry about him settling in England. He's nothing like Forlan or Vela.
Has a bit of that Suarez fighter in him. He was selling bus tickets in Bogata 6 years ago to survive, so you get the impression he will contiune to fight hard to succeed.

It was too obvious - I couldn't bring myself not to post it.

This is probably why we are where we are. Everytime we get close to the title we start trying to buy BPL proven players who can supposely come in and "hit the ground" running. They are always more expensive and I don't quite recall anyone like that who had actually made a difference. None of the players in the top 4 will come to us and we always end up buying one season wonders or mid table players.

[article=http://www.itv.com/news/2015-06-25/sevilla-no-offers-from-liverpool-or-any-other-club-for-bacca/?]"We have not received an official offer for Bacca," Sevilla sporting director Monchi said on his club's official website. "We are not in negotiations for any important player.

"I'm no fortune-teller but top strikers in the market there aren't that many. "Bacca has averaged 24.5 goals, 21 goals in his first season at the club and 28 in his second.

"I hope no one pays his buy-out clause. It's a risk we take but we can't do anything about that.

"We gave him a new contract 10 months ago and I believe he and his family are very happy here. But I cannot predict the future."[/article]

i saw his bro chew in a film once, i can almost hear him rebuke neymar as he pushes him

"AAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH"

If we sign Hope Solo for the ladies team, then we can list players attached to Liverpool as H Solo & C Bacca.

They could call the team bus the M Falcon.
I'm sure we can find a player called Luke and one called Leia while we're at it.

I'm not so confident about finding an Obi Wan.

Bacca: Agent confirms Liverpool FC interest in £21million striker

Reds must decide whether to trigger Colombian's release clause

Carlos Bacca is keen to resolve his future after his agent confirmed that Liverpool have made contact about a potential £21.3million move to Anfield.
The Reds are still considering whether to firm up their interest in the Sevilla striker, who is viewed as an alternative target to Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke.
Liverpool are refusing to meet Villa’s £32.5million asking price for Benteke and that has led them to enquire about the availability of both Bacca and Zenit St Petersburg frontman Salomon Rondon.
Bacca, who plundered 28 goals for the Spanish outfit last season, has a 30million euros (£21.3million) release clause in his contract. Sevilla, who don’t want to sell him, have made it clear they won’t accept a reduced fee.

The 28-year-old’s agent Sergio Barila has indicated that the Colombian international, who is in Chile at the Copa America, would be prepared to move to Anfield but says another English club are also in the market for him. Barila has also met with officials from Milan and Roma.
“We have had lots of interest but so far there has been no official approach,” he said.
“I spoke with Carlos on Wednesday night and we agreed we need a real solution.
“Clubs are telling him not to sign anything until they have made an offer but we are still waiting.
“Liverpool and another English club are among those that have shown an interest but there are also clubs in Italy. What is clear is that they must meet the release clause but at this stage nobody has.
'Liverpool is on his list'

“Sevilla are a good team who will play in the Champions League next season so it wouldn’t be a disaster to stay. Carlos has other options to earn a lot of money in places like China or the United Arab Emirates but that would not fit in with what he is looking for.
“We are really looking at three things – number one is to have a happy family situation for his wife and son because he had a bad experience in Belgium. The second is to find a good team with a good project. Before he went to Chile, we wrote down a list of clubs that fit that description and Liverpool was on that list.
“The third question is the contract. He has a good salary in Sevilla but we know how much clubs in England can pay.”

Sevilla sporting director Monchi has confirmed that they have yet to receive any offers for Bacca, who has three years remaining on his current deal.
“I hope no one pays his buy-out clause. It’s a risk we take but we can’t do anything about that,” he said.
“We gave him a new contract 10 months ago and I believe he and his family are very happy here. But I cannot predict the future.”
Bacca will miss Colombia’s Copa America quarter-final against Argentina on Friday night as he completes his two-match ban following his dismissal against Brazil earlier in the tournament.
He began his career with Atletico Junior in his homeland before moving to Europe when he signed for Belgian side Club Brugge in 2012.
An impressive haul of 28 goals led to him being named the Belgian League’s Player of the Year in 2013 and he was snapped up by Sevilla for 7million euros.
During his two seasons in Spain he has netted 49 goals in 108 appearances – including a match-winning double in last month’s Europa League final triumph over Dnipro in Warsaw.

Has a bit of that Suarez fighter in him. He was selling bus tickets in Bogata 6 years ago to survive, so you get the impression he will contiune to fight hard to succeed.

So you get drawn in by some caricature of him in a media report, fine. (I think it's ill advised at best)

And here's why - how many strikers can you name who joined the Premier League for the first time aged 28 or older who turned out to be very good?
