Derby are currently just above the relegation line in the Championship.
Terrible season so far, 1 win, 2 draws and 4 losses. Currently on a 3 match losing streak, will probably be 4 in a few hours.

Play the best team, the bench/reserves or a mix of both?

The guys looked knackered after the Chelsea game so I think Klopp will assess their fitness beforehand as usual and field a few reserves with some of our certain starters.

-----------------------------------------Karius

Clyne/Trent Arnold--------Klavan---------Sakho/Lucas---------Moreno

----------------------------Lucas/Stewart--------Emre

-----------------Firmino----------------Grujic-------------------Coutinho

-----------------------------------------Origi/Ings

Something like that...

Yeah, I'd go for that kind of team.

----------------- Karius
Arnold ---- Klavan -- Lucas --- Moreno
------ Can --- Stewart -- Grujic
--- Firmino ---- Origi --------- Ings

I'm not sure about that backline so maybe stick Lovren in for Lucas.

Karius
Arnold Lucas Klavan Moreno
Stewart Can Gruijc
Origi Ings Firmino

Maybe see Ejaria or Woodburn get a run out aswell

Don't think any of the kids will play a part.

Karius Clyne Klavan Sakho Moreno Can Lucas Grujic Mane Ings Origi

I don't think there is necessarily a need to rest Matip and Lovren. We played on Friday, then Tuesday then Saturday - that's more than enough time for CBs to recover. If Klopp thinks it's important to give Klavan or Sakho playing time then fair enough - but it might be actually more important to give Karius (who will start in goal for sure) a chance to start building an understanding with the first-choice CB partnership.

I want to see the following in the staring line-up:

Karius - to build up to replace Ming
Ings -to prove he really is in the manager's mind
Lucas - to calm my nerves and prove he is a 'b' team player

I want not to see:

Fimino - not even on the bench
Clyne - he has to have SOME downtime
Lallana - he's been brilliant recently so maybe an idea to pop him on the bench as the "experience to bring on if we need it"

Weve got no Europe.
We should play a strong team.

Karius
Arnold
Sakho
Klavan
Moreno

Grujic
Lucas
Stewart

Coutinho
Ings
Mane

Something like that

no way is Sakho getting game time this side of Xmas. Klopp will undermine himself if he does without injuries to force it

Based on what you ave told us about Derby - maybe we should just play with 8 men. They sound really shit and not worth putting out a full team for.

Ha, well they are shit.
Btw Derby managed a draw away against Bristol titty.

And then it meets Liverpool. Strange things always happen whens such teams meet Liverpool.

I'd have Wilson and Woodburn on the bench for every league cup game. There might be 15 minutes at the end of a match when they could come on, or maybe they'll just stay on the bench, but they'll learn from being with the squad, and they're very good prospects.

Exactly. There is no reason to play him when even Lucas is playing ahead of him. He will do fine in the reserves, where he was told explicitly he will be.

I have ignored every single 'this kid is going to be great' story and report I've heard coming out of Mellwood and The Academy or wherever for years now.

Because they never are. As evidenced by the last genuine quality players to come through were Gerrard, Owen, and Carragher.

There's a few who have been OK, and left to have decent careers, but most haven't made it, despite being part of the 'the best crop of talent since....'

Woodburn is the first that has made a ping on my radar. I've watched a few of his goals, and the sheer volume of reports and adulation suggests that he may well be the first player since Owen for whom it is not a question of if he will get into the first team, but when.

Well Sterling made it into our first team, had a really good season when we came second and then earned us 50million quid. Which wasn't bad. We're also actually churning out players people want to buy rather than just releasing everyone. Gerrard is a once in a generation phenomenon, but the academy is definitely being run really well just now, and we have some real talent coming through. Woodburn is extremely exciting, but I am just as excited by Ejaria.

And Ejaria. Though whether you could call him a 'product' is rather dubious in the extreme.

I havnt kept up with the academy.
Someone fill me in on this Woodburn and Ejaria then?
They good?

Very. Both extremely exciting prospects. From what I saw of the pre season games they look ready to tear it up. I'm hoping one or both start against Derby.

Woodburn. Forward. Scoring goals for fun. Only 16 but featured heavily in preseason, and a regular in u23s. Has a bit of everything; skilful with clever runs, poaching finishes; always looks ridiculously calm in front of goal.

Ejaria, lanky midfielder. Mixes long-legged tackling, ludicrously clever feet, with extraordinary vision. Could be amazingly good. Check the video in the academy thread of clips from his preseason.

Im so loathe to get excited after all the Suso, Teixeira shenanigans.

I still think we could have done better developing those players. Ejaria was on the bench against Chelsea. Suso would be fab in preseason and then get nowhere near the match day squad. Ejaria will play some role this season.

Suso was actually starting games alongside Suarez and Sterling in Rodgers' first season. He was just not good enough.

Stewart actually impresses me more than any other young player I've seen make their full team debut in the last few years. He's been given barely any time in some matches yet still manages to make an impression & play in a very difficult position in a way that belies his age & inexperience.

He had 14 appearances in 2 years with Rodgers and most of those fleeting appearances. You're probably right that he wasn't good enough, but I think we could have done more with his talent.
