So maybe:

---------------------Karius------------------
Randall----Matip----Lovren---Moreno
----------------------Can--------------------
-------------Ejaria--------Coutinho-------
Ings--------------Origi----------Firmino--

Grujic to come on for one of the Brazilians in the 2nd half.

lads, I have to come clean. I don't want to mislead. Derby County was the first club I ever supported, at age 4. My dad clued me into charlie George and then there was Davey Langan. First football scarf was a Rams scarf with a picture of all the players on it. Lasted two years, until I was 6, and my brother got me a poster of King Kenny..

Slut.

Klopp confirms Karius will start. Origi expexted to start aswell.
Ejaria to make his debut.

Jürgen Klopp has told Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet that neither can count themselves as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Karius gets his chance to stake his claim for the goalkeeper’s shirt tonight in the tie against Derby County.

The former Germany Under-21 player was widely expected to displace Mignolet when he signed from Mainz for £4.7 million in May, but missed the start of the season after he broke his finger during a pre-season match against Chelsea.

Mignolet has played in all of Liverpool’s matches so far this season but Klopp would not confirm that he would return for the Premier League match at home to Hull City on Saturday. “Where is my possibility to answer?” Klopp said. “If I say ‘yes’, what does it mean for Loris? If I say ‘no’, what does it mean for Simon?

“There is no No 1 at this moment. There is no decision. It is just about performing and showing how good you are. What we want is two really strong goalkeepers and that is what I think we have got.”

“For all players it is the same. I won’t say someone is our centre-half for the next 15 months. It is about performing and improving. Show how much you can help the team.”

Klopp has given Mignolet plenty of public support since being appointed Liverpool’s manager last October, which extended to the goalkeeper receiving a five-year contract in January.

Karius, though, became regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga during his time at Mainz.

Regards streams, if you're in starstreams/smoothstreams or one of their sister sites, it's not listed yet, someone's made a request on the forum & I've seconded it, I'd advise any of you lot to get on there (smoothstreams.tv/board) & add your name to that request in the request sub forum.

I thought I'd follow your advice and get over there but alas it requires an invitation code - if it's not too cheeky, has anyone got a code please?

Looking much forward to see Karius tonight, I really hope he's as good as Klopp thinks he is.

And what about Ings? If he doesn't play to tonight surely he's got no future with us?

..elsewhere Bendtner will play against Arsenal for Forest. I have to admit I am slightly intrigued by that encounter.

I really don't think Klopp is one to play games with people over this. He's just far more attuned to his sports science staff than is usual in this country. He's said that if the specialists tell him a player isn't ready yet then they're not ready yet. Look at Gomez - I'm pretty sure he'd be much closer to returning under any of our previous managers, but Klopp has a strict schedule for those coming back from long injury lay-offs and he sticks to it rigidly. Hopefully he thinks Ings can play tonight, but otherwise he'll keep monitoring him in the reserves.

I posted about Ings and his total lack of visibility, but was reassured that it wasn't a case of falling out of favour, more that Klopp is still viewing him as too far away from genuine match readiness, after so long out.

We shall see

That makes sense.

One thing is what Klopp's reasoning behind it is but what does Ings himself think? I mean he's young-ings and needs to play to keep developing and if that doesn't even happen in the League Cup then when?

A lot of posters on here more or less jumped on my throat when I suggested that he would be deemed surplus to requirement during Summer but honestly I still believe that is very much the case and if he can't make it to the team tonight - even if you are spot on with your assessment (and I think you are) behind his potential omission - I still reckon it to be another step in that direction for him. Fair or not.

Ings played for and scored for the u23s last week, isn't that indicative of getting towards some sort of genuine fitness?

Ings must have a part to play in tonight's game if he wasn't involved last night for the under 23s.

The reserves, with all kinds of scans and tests on his knee and general fitness until it's deemed he's ready for a few cameos in the first team. Klopp's ultra-cautious about those kinds of injuries: when the player recovers, in a basic sense, then they're monitored not just to test the healing and strengthening of the original problem area, but also the dangers of compensatory muscle strains elsewhere are also monitored. It's extremely intensive and meticulous, but it's designed to ensure that when they come back they stay back. I'm sure Ings is frustrated but he's smart enough to know it's n his best interests - and when you go through that process you should be full of confidence rather than scared there'll be a setback.

Yes. 'Getting towards' being the key words. It's how Klopp was at Dortmund, it's how he is here - he really won't budge on this.

Klopp actually mentioned this in one of his recent interviews- in essence Ings agreed with Klopp that after his pre-season runouts he realised he wasn't ready and they are now working on a fitness regime. He turned down a £20m offer for him and that would be insane if you had no plans for him.

Yep I'm liking this "play when you're 100% fit" approach. Sturridge got that treatment and now it seems Ings, Sakho and also Gomez will get the same.

I think Sakho might need a bit more than "100% fitness" though. He's got more than his fitness to prove.

Not that I'm arsed. I only ever want to see him near the team if the only other option is Lucas.

Does seem like a sound approach, get him 100 percent fit.

Wasn't aware we rejected a £20M offer on him either. Surely does indicate he's in the planings.

Of course there's something more to with regards to Sakho, I'm just going by the quotes. I can't see Sakho starting another game unless we're desperate.

Don't think it's that simple. Ings would probably have been sold if Sturridge wasn't so injury prone.
Ings is currently behind Sturridge, Origi and Firmino and next season maybe the kid in the reserves might be ready to step up?
We'll see.

..and I still think we need a new striker. Don't get me wrong, despite most on here at least on match days, I do like Origi and what he brings to the table. He'll get better and better and got some obvious traits we otherwise lack.

However Studge is going to be injured at some point, Firmino is versatile and will score a lot of goals but perhaps not as prolific a goalscorer as you'd want to lead the line on your own so especially when/if Studge is out we'd look a bit vulnerable in that department.

IF we continue our current form and our strikers stay mostly fit we don't need a Griezmann type of mega signing perhaps but I still think we could use a decent striker of some sort. Maybe that could be Ings if/when he returns..

We have Mané who imo is exactly what we needed.
I personally think we need a new midfielder in the Strootman mold.

It's one positive difference between Klopp and Guardiola. Both are smart and progressive managers who know the advantages that can come from using sports science. But Klopp has studied it formally and extensively, and understands it unusually thoroughly for a manager, whereas Guardiola, like most of other managers, largely relies on surrounding himself with specialists and listening to their advice - hence his very old-style tantrums when he thinks his medical team have messed up. There's no cool-headed analysis there, just old-fashioned Ginsoak-style ranting and irrationalism.

A central defender in the mould of Alan Hansen, a central midfielder in the mould of Alonso and a new striker in the mould of Suarez.

Is that really too much to ask?

PS And a new player like Gerrard, please.
