Loaned players Watch - 2013/14

Are you expecting the next Messi or something? Those players all went on to have or are having good careers as Premier League players.

I haven't seen Coady play so I have no idea how good he is, but from the sounds of it, he's doing well at League 1. He might kick on and be a good squad player for us. He might be another Spearing. People are far too quick to judge players sometimes.

Yeah Spearing is about his level

It sounds strange but he actually does seem to improve with every outing and he is putting in some great performances. He's definitely worth sticking with a for another couple of seasons to see how he handles the Championship (hopefully next season) and see if he is actually possible LFC first team squad material. With Wilson, Rossiter, Teixera etc coming through the ranks Coady will have his work cut out to make a first team impression at LFC but I'm more confident in his chances now than I was before this loan spell. If he continues to progress over the next 12 months the kid has every chance of making the grade at LFC.

It seems as though the guy does have talent and has every chance of forging a good career for himself, but surely the chances of that being at Liverpool are slim to none.

[article=http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/sheff-utd/sheffield-united-fire-us-into-play-offs-says-clough-1-6521597]
Nigel Clough challenged Conor Coady to fire Sheffield United into play-off contention following last night’s victory over Crawley Town.

The midfielder, on loan from Liverpool, scored twice as the visitors moved to within seven points of sixth-placed Peterborough with nine games remaining.

Despite insisting United have only a slim chance of overhauling Darren Ferguson’s side, Clough said: “If Conor continues in the same vein then, over the course of an entire season, I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be aiming for double figures.

“People like Frank Lampard have made a career out of doing that and it’s the type of return Conor should be looking to replicate.”

Coady, who recently renewed his agreement until the end of the League One campaign, took his tally in United colours to six with well-taken finishes either side of the interval. “It’s something we’ve spoken with Conor about,” Clough added. “We want him to be positive and get into areas where he can hurt the opposition because he’s got the ability to do that. We don’t think he’s the type of player who should just look to sit back and sweep things up.”

Clough, meanwhile, has revealed he could be forced back into the transfer market after centre-half Harry Maguire collected the caution which triggers an automatic two match suspension. With Matt Hill (hamstring), Terry Kennedy (knee) and Bob Harris (thigh) nursing injuries, the United manager said: “We’ll have to find someone to slot in there if none of those lads recover in time.”[/article]

So are they playing for a top team in the premiership?
Top teams in the Premiership no longer (sadly) shop in the bargain basement; they think they have circumvented this by trying to nick all the talented 12-16 year old available and worst case scenario if a talented kid comes through in either of the 2 lower divisions they wait until a Championship team buys them and if they still progress then they make their move.

In recent years even this has stopped because the Championship teams are asking too much for their wares e.g. Rhodes, Ings, Hughes, Ince etc so invariably the top teams give them a miss.

I think it's a huge mistake that the top Premier League teams make, they should be buying talented young players from the lower levels and lending them out to Championship clubs. If we buy Harry Maguire from Sheffield United (centre back) for £2m and lent him out next season to a Championship team he could do very well and prove worthy of a first team squad place at LFC, if it didn't go too well for him we'd probably get about £1m back when we sold him.

Since I've been posting on here I've mentioned about 6 players from the bottom 2 divisions who I thought we should have bought and would probably have cost us at most £1m each and 3 of them were Ings, Hart and LeFondre who are probably worth a combined £20m and Ings could go on to be worth a lot more. I also mentioned Ross McCormack when he was available for £1m and Leeds recently turned down £5m for him.

There is a mine of talent in the lower divisions but very few good talent spotters.

Is Ings really that good?
I looked at some goal compilations on youtube, looks pretty average to me. We need to be looking at strikers who can create chances for themselves.
Who can play alone upfront, on either flank. Just like Sturridge and Suarez.

Look who's back playing.

Did anybody post highlights of Suso's latest performance? I thought I saw it posted and wanted to watch it later, but now can't find anything.

@Modo?

Good to see him doing well on the right. If he's kept on and his contract's renewed next season, that's where he'll probably play for a start, I presume. Unless he convinces Rodgers that he's also ready to play at AM as well. Will be interesting to see if Luis Alberto gets loaned out next season while Suso takes up the position as Coutinho's backup.

I don't see Suso as a specific back up for anyone. He can play in the middle and he can play on the wings.
He'll be a decent squad player for us, and most importantly he'll cost us zero pounds excluding wages, food, transport and lodgings.

Blackpool fans' view of Jack Robinson on one of their forums:

Looks like he's doing okay and they're happy with him. They also seem quick to point out that some of his problems have been due to playing with poor players or playing under Ince. Remains to be seen what happens when he returns, especially with Enrique back next season (hopefully) and Flanagan making a good case for himself to start at LB next season.

Rodgers is all about giving people another shot though, so I'm interested to see what happens when he returns.

I've seen Robinson about 4 times whilst he's been at Blackpool and have seen little that makes me think he's good enough for the Premier league unfortunately.

Is Ings really that good?

It's impossible to be sure; there have been many very good goalscorers in The Championship who were sold for lots of money to the Premiership and flopped; Chopra, Wickham, Maynard, Danny Graham, etc, etc. In some cases it's not the players fault e.g. Gary Hooper at Norwich has been criminally under used by Norwich this season and when they do play him they struggle to get the ball to him, similarly Reading never got the best out of Adam LeFondre when they were in the Premier League, if he was played beside an Andy Carroll type of player he'd have got 20+ goals in the EPL.

Because there are no guarantees with signing players from The Championship I am against the idea of spending more than £8m on any player. Look at Zaha, £15m and so far he's been a big flop and rumours are that United might offload* him this summer!

Ings is the nearest thing I've seen to a bona fide top level striker at this level, I honestly think he could be the new Fowler and if we could get him for £8m ish I'd be ecstatic.

*If United do offload Zaha I'd be half tempted to make a cheeky £6m offer (not that United would sell to us). He has all the skill in the world but lacks any sort of aggression. With Zaha's immense talent and Rodgers ability to get the best out of players it could prove an excellent signing.

If we don't get Ings and Norwich get relegated I'd offer them £5m for Hooper, I'm still convinced he'll score regularly in the EPL given a chance and he'd be a great back up to Sturridge.

Have you seen Powell lately? How's he doing?

He's looking very good unfortunately. United fans are in very negative mood obviously and reckon he won't make the grade because he lacks a bit of pace but, as I point out to them, neither did Sheringham. I think he will become a Sheringham type of player as he's very intelligent, strong, great control, a good eye and capable of scoring 20 goals a season while assisting with lots more. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Just to clarify, I liked that as I appreciate the time you took to reply, not the part about Utd having a good player

I don't really see it with Zaha. He looks rather awkward and spindly to me, not the sort of compact build that's ideal for feints and trickery and beating defenders. And every time I've seen him his play backs up that initial impression.

Zaha is in the same bracket as Sinclair, Adam Johnson etc some skills but no football brain

At my last job, I worked with a Palace season ticket holder who had been going to see them for about 20 years. He thought Zaha was massively overrated.
