More pace for next season?

I'll never forget that game, where Cisse played on the wing, and he sped down the wing and every cross he whipped in, hit the guy he was marking or the next player. Awful. The left back had to get seen for a concussion on Monday. Literally, 1 out of 20 crosses made it in

Altogether now:

Gene Hughes
Has got a long thin cock
Has got a long thin cock
Has got a long thin cock.

Thin cock!
And you know you have.

Rushie was a wonderful exception, because he was clever enough to be able to use his pace for the good of the team as a whole. Owen was the opposite - the whole team had to serve him because he never really knew how to go beyond being a dazzling solo 'turn'.

All the great are,

Ronaldo fat and skinny
Messi
Henry

Yeah all the greats you carefully selected are. Sure.

Zidane, Cruyff, Pele, Maradona, Best, Baresi, Maldini, Di Stefano, Charlton, etc etc = not pacey.

See, this game's great?

Heh - there was definitely that vibe about Rafa and not just about quick players. Everything needed to be reigned in, which was a shame because when he did let go a little bit we looked much better for it.

If only Bellers started instead of f*cking Zenden in the CL final.

But isn't everyone trying this pressing game nowadays? What happens when two teams both try to press?

The team with the best techincal players in terms of ball retention and movement win, fitness also plays a factor as it's very hard for a full team to press for 90 mins effectively.

How often do you see good teams go to shit whn teams press them high up the pitch.

eamon Dunphy had a field day about that game.

Pele in his pomp was very quick as was Maradonna, the rest while great players wouldn't be considered in the very top teir and while they all were greats they would be the exception rather than the rule. Best was simply the best dribbler ever imo. If he had lightening pace with it he would have been unplayable

So who is in this "top tier" you speak off that Zidane, Cruyff, Best, Baresi, Maldini, Di Stefano & Charlton wouldn't be considered being in?

I'm sure I've seen clips of Best and Cruyff bursting through defences at speed. Can they really be considered 'not pacey'?

Best was very quick, but only over short distances, like messi he combined incredible close control with bursts of acceleration to go passed defenders with ease. He wouldnt have been been lethal over 100 metres like Ronaldo or Henry but you don't have to be.

Ray Houghton was one of the least athletic looking players you could ever see, but he did have a decent burst over about 10 yards, he used that to maximum effect. He never ran defenders ragged like Barnes but he could get away from a player to create space for a pass. As most people have pointed out pace is no good unless you know how to use it, but a smart player with even a little bit of pace has a huge advantage

Surely its,

It grows when it wants

Pele, Maradonna, Messi, C. Ronaldo (is getting there but those 3 are ahead of the rest and all had pace along with everything else.
