No he shouldn't.
Don't let the sending off blind it.
It was the correct call but Gerrard fucked it up.
Never the correct call.. We needed a ball winner in midfield.. We where being over run..

It required someone with intelligence and composure.. The game was crying out for Lucas.

You thought Rodgers would of learned from the away game..

The last four memories of Stevie ...

the slip ...
the stamp ...
watching us finish 4th.
lifting the FA Cup.

Name a game where Lucas and Allen have played well together.
From the 30th minute on United had no interest in keeping the ball.
It was hoof to Fellaini and hope for the best.
We didn't need a ball winner just someone who could do something with the ball.
It's just that Stevie's brain went on walkabouts again.

I don't think we had that much difficulty getting the ball back. We just gave it back to them when we did.

Maybe Lucas would have kept better it than Allen, but it takes Lucas a while to get back up to speed after injury.

He doesn't have Gerrard's ability with the ball.

It's a question mark against his credentials to come back as manager. When you needed a force of nature, he was, at his peak, your man, but when you needed a cool head and a sharp brain, you looked elsewhere. Best sign him up with Subway and send him on lots of trips.

Suppose you're consistent on it.
Just don't praise Mario and say he owes us nothing in the same century.
Oh don't worry, I won't

Mario has done fuck all and will continue to do fuck all

Lucas for Allen was what was required..

Allen was being dominated in midfield.

I was in utter shock Gerrard came on for Lallana.. Wrong call from BR..

That's hyperbole, but I agree lucas probably was the better option.
The second half was always going to be different.
United were happy sitting back and breaking.
Lucas probably could have started and things would have been different but no one predicted that Allen would be that poor.
The second half wasn't set up for a Lucas type player.
We missed him in the first half though.

Yeah, I get your point there. Fair enough

Lucas should of came on for Allen..

I thought Allen was being targeted by Man UTD. . And as a result was pretty poor..

No, he shouldnt. He returned to training a few days ago. Gerrard had played vs Swansea and had a couple of weeks more training in him.

The sub was correct. Gerrard fucked up.

some of the aggro against one of our all time greats is verging on malicious mancunian drivel.

he made a mistake. he fessed up.

let's not forget the countless times he's stepped up when needed and stayed with us when he could have buggered off.

Everyone will excuse the little shit.

No one will. To a man everyone I've spoken with about it have moaned at what a twat he was for that 30 seconds. Everyone.

He's apologised (as he should) straight after the game too.

We all make mistakes and his happens to be in front of millions of people.

What a sad sad end to a fantastic players Liverpool career..

Lost us the title (arguably) with his slip last season..

Probably lost us a top 4 position with his stupid sending off today..

I would like to put it on the record.. BR Made tactical fuck up with that substitute.
It should of been Lucas being brought on. We we where crying out for a ball winner in midfield and he goes and bring Gerrard on at DM..

I don't think Lallana should have been taken off, he was virtually the only one creating and getting into space. Though I do think his awful miss precipitated the substitution and possibly therefore cost us the match.

I couldn't help but laugh at this, SG's Heatmap :

Brendan Rodgers refuses to criticise Steven Gerrard

BRENDAN RODGERS refused to criticise Steven Gerrard after his red card in Liverpool’s defeat against Manchester United.

Gerrard was dismissed less than a minute after coming on as a half-time substitute in the Reds’ 2-1 defeat at Anfield, shown a straight red by referee Martin Atkinson, after stamping on United midfielder Ander Herrera.

The skipper went on television immediately after the game to apologise to teammates, manager and supporters, and accepted “full responsibility for the result.”

Rodgers praised the 34-year-old for his contrition, but stopped short of blaming his captain for the defeat.

He said: “It’s big of someone when they do get sent off to come out and apologise. But Steven was probably frustrated watching us in the first half, where we didn’t make a tackle.

“At least he was man enough to come out and make that apology, but it (the result) wasn’t just about that.

“With Steven, it was him purely wanting to make an impact. He’s made his apologies for it, and of course in a big game you suffer with 10 against 11, but it happened and it’s great respect to the players that stayed on that we kept fighting with 10 men.

Asked if the fact that it was his last game against United, and whether the taunts of the away supporters might have had an impact, Rodgers said: “You’d have to speak with Steven on that.

“He’s a highly competitive player, and he’s made a great challenge when he’s come on, which was probably our first challenge of the game.

“He wanted to help the team so much, and I won’t criticise him. He’s been brilliant in my time here, and sometimes these things happen. It doesn’t happen very often to our team, but it did today and it’s one we’ll move on from.”

Rodgers also defended Martin Skrtel amid accusations he too had deliberately stamped on a United player, this time goalkeeper David De Gea.

He said: “I didn’t see it like that. I think that it’s towards the end of the game, he’s been pushed upfield, but I don’t think he caught him with intent.

“I think he’s trying to nick the final contact on the ball, and if he does that then he probably gets a penalty, so he’s stretching.

“The ball goes into the ‘keeper’s arms, and obviously he’s caught him after that. But he’s just trying to get a toe on the ball, and if he does that and gets brought down then it’s probably a penalty.

“I didn’t think it was on purpose, at all, but obviously when the ‘keeper gets the studs like that then it can be a bit painful for him. It was a different incident, though.”

Hopefully he'll get a FIFA award for sportsmanship for saying sorry. Maybe a KBE, too.

Lallana was poor, he did two things. Get flattered by Jones - which was should have been a booking- the. Miss a sitter

Lallana's head is a magnet for violence. I've never seen a player get elbowed, kicked, knocked and hit in the head as often as him.
