Xabi Alonso

It’s too early for him. Might have been in with a shout if Klopp stayed til 2026 and Ange won a trophy and challenged til the end of season for a title. Can’t see it atm.

Ange and Spurs are like De Zerbi with a better attack.
The gung ho attacking style were you ride your luck defensively isnt the way forwad for us. I dont want that naivety. Spurs have the 6th worst defence in the league.

No thank you.

The only argument for Ange is he’s a Liverpool fan, he’d absolutely tick the box for in “getting” the City and he plays a system not unlike the much beloved early Jurgen heavy metal, embrace the chaos style.

However, he’s won fuck all of note, has an abysmal record in Europe, has next to fuck all experience of dealing with elite players…. Etc, etc

In sumary.. he’s not the droid we’re looking for.

He’s been a winner everywhere he’s been more than 5 mins. I’ve no doubt he’d bring us some success just not sure how much.

Unbeaten in the league for 22 games, ending Heidenheim's 7 games unbeaten run too.

Leverkusen have set new club records after 22 matchdays for most goals scored (56) and fewest conceded (14).

The game marked exactly 500 days since Alonso took over at Leverkusen. The team have earned 103 points from his 48 Bundesliga matches at the helm. Only Pep Guardiola, Hansi Flick - whose Bayern side also went 32 competitive fixtures unbeaten in 2019 and 2020 - and Carlo Ancelotti have a better points-per-game ratio in the Bundesliga.

Frimpong scored his seventh Bundesliga goal of the season.

Adli scored his second Bundesliga goal of 2023/24. His first fell in the 4-1 home win over Heidenheim on Matchday 5.

Leverkusen have won all 18 Bundesliga games this season in which they have led at some point.

Heidenheim lost for only the third time in 11 home matches since their promotion
to the Bundesliga, ending an eight-game unbeaten run.

Leverkusen and Stuttgart tops the table but Heidenheim have been a bit of a surprise side in Bundesliga, gave Leverkusen some things to really think about today (certainly more than Bayern did the other day).

Not enough mate - winning with Celtic is beyond easy, his record in Japan ok - but one trophy in 3 seasons not exactly ground breaking, and his A-League record irrelevant.

Shit record in Europe and unlikely to have us seriously challenging for the title.

Oh that would be some coup.

Not a big fan of ripping out the core of a single club at the same time though. Surely we can't be stealing Xabi, Rolfes, Wirtz and Hincapie from them all at the same time?

Bayer fans will probably be piss drunk and delirious for months after shedding the “Neverkusen” label in such spectacular fashion - a perfect opportunity to steal their best talent while they are celebrating. They probably won’t even be upset.

Bayern have had 6 managers since 2016. No manager has been there longer than Guardiola (3 years) since Magath in 2004.

I cant understand why Alonso would choose that path at this stage in his career. The fact that he can win the league and cup in Germany this season makes it unlikely that Bayern would get him mid season anyway.

I'd wager that Bayern are releasing stories like this to try an unsettle the team in front of them.
