According to the Mail (yes, I know) we're in for him. £15m for a 20-year-old defensive midfielder, currently playing for Rennes. I've only seen him once, but I must admit he was very impressive. Big, strong, fast, skilful, dominating. Reminded me a bit of Vieira, although that comparison should probably be avoided as it tends to end in tears (eg Momo Sissoko). Encouraging though. We could do with a bit of steel and pace in our midfield.

He's meant to play in the friendly v England this week btw, so you should all get a chance to see him in action.

The problem then is spunking off Poulsen somewhere (I don't think Lucas will go in January at all.). I'd be surprised to see us spend this kind of money on a defensive midfielder when we're hurting so badly for creative players but (despite a whole lot of unfounded and lazy speculation) we really have little idea what NESV's transfer policy is going to look like, particularly in the short term.

I likely won't be able to watch the England game so hopefully someone will bump this thread with info on how he did.

Comolli will know all about this lad, and will most definetly be interested in signing him.

Excellent player.

I like this link.

Looked a strong player with plenty of running, and he was quite a bit decent on the ball.

A bit less mobile than Sissoko, but a bit more passing and technical ability than Sissoko. He played that defensive midfield position well in the one game i watched him play.

That bit doesn't fill me with confidence to be honest.

I don't think I've seen him play mind so I'll instead accept that he must be very good having got that kind of price tag on him.

Sissoko was a monster when it came to running around the pitch. I don't know many footballers who could measure up to him in that regard. There is no shame in being slightly less mobile than him.

*takes one on the chin*

The Cunt Twins, Lucarse and Crapsen, will surely be finally fucked off out of Anfield in january.

Nobody thinks they're good enough for Liverpool, because they aren't.

I'm not happy with Budgie having any input at all, because he's a useless old cunt, but Comolli and Kenny should have enough nous to make the right call mnore often than not.

We need midfield reinforcements, as any fule kno

all you had to do was bid your time before lucas returned to the lucas of old, bren. I was pretty impressed with lucas for that 3 game purple patch but that's all it was a purple patch. he was dreadful at the weekend, again.

Neil have you turned into Brendan lapdog? I see ye are agreeing on a lot of points lately. Ye both 'knew' Roy was going to be a disaster. The Roy bashing and 'I told you so' retorts are creating a nice bond between ye.

All I want is managers and key-personel behind curtains to buy players that are suited for our preferred style of play however that's going to be under a new manager. I know what I'd prefer but that's not the point here.

E.g. Mascherano for all his defensive qualities is not a player you'd splash big cash on if you want your team to play a possession-based attacking-minded style of football. Then you'd like your DMs to be a bit better on the ball and more creative. Like say Xabi Alonso. (This of course is my opinion and not one the directors of sports seems to agree upon in Barcelona).

If you are to build a midfield-fortress however and play a very direct style of football he'd be the first name on the list as You'd then need never-tiring always running and tackling midfielders to cover great areas. Masher is numero uno in that department.

I'm not saying one system is better than the next one all I'm saying is I want Liverpool FC and everyone involved with transfers, formations and motivation to work as one unit.

No more buys or free signings just because someone's available and/or the manager has got his own preference without knowing what style of play suits player X or Y. (E.g. Poulsen who is by no means a DM in the Masher mould but more so in the Alonso-mould* will thrive more in an attacking-minded team that enjoys a lot of possession).

*Alonso is miles better than Poulsen and even when compared to when the latter was at his best he wasn't anywhere near Alonso's top-level.

So if this M'Vila is suited to whatever style of football we'd like to see at Anfield during a new manager then I'm all for signing him up I'm just keeping my fingers crossed we'll start to do our homework better when it comes to buying players.

well, I don't hate lucas as much as bren seems to. I actually think lucas could turn into a half decent player if he went down the gym and put on a stone or two of muscle and learned to release the ball a lot faster (like he was doing in his purple patch). not someone I would want starting matches but I certainly think he has a place in the squad, to give the people (who DO have the skill and ability to warrent a first team place) a rest.

I agree with a lot of that KHL but not the 'free signings'. all 'free signing' means is that player has been allowed to run down his contract (for whatever reason). someone should post the free signings from last year and the free signings that will be available in the summer, I bet money there are some pretty freaking impressive players on both lists.

I'm not against free signings mate. I'm against free signings just because they are available on a free. Joe Cole was one signing I in particular was very happy with. The thing is however when you sign Joe Coles and Jovanovics in the same window you'll start to wonder what type of football you'd expect to see.

One is extremely good when on the ball, in his short-passing game and such, but not especially fast, nor strong. Needs the game to be played mostly on the opponenents half to get the best out of him. The other would thrive much more from playing in a counter-attacking team with few touches and many long-balls.

I haven't written off joe cole yet. I'm on the fence with a lot of our attacking players purely because of the manner in which our team has been set up to play. if we get in a manager who plays in a more attacking manner and these players are still struggling then I will conceed they need to be bombed out.

a manager who has been given a plane ticket to scout future players does not sound like a manager who is close to being sacked.

I saw that on twitter yesterday.

Camollio (Or whatever his face is) earmarked this guy as top player before he left his last job.

In, what would have been a rare event, I nearly started a thread on this last night when I had all the quotes to hand.

This trip would have probably been planned some days in advance, so I wouldnt read too much into it as being significant to him either staying or leaving.
