4 pts off fourth..

I'd be happy with one quality striker who can also play wide in a 4-3-3 when Suarez is fit. Personally I think Sturridge would be a good signing, but I do suspect there's better out there on the continent for the money he'd cost.

Somone like that for £15-20m and I think we'd greatly improve our chances of the top 4, so long as we're in striking distance come January.

We need at least 2 forwards. We should also activate Diame's release clause - he twatted all of our midfield on his own.

Seem to remember Kenny wanting to sign him on a free this summer, and most fans didnt think it would be a good signing. Well, he's been very good for WH.

Out for 12 weeks aswell.

If we activated Diame and Ba's release clauses we'd have two cracking players for 15 million. That would do me.

It's mad, we have had such an indifferent season, but are within a game or two of fourth.
If they had not made a complete and utter fuck up of the summer transfer window and Suarez disallowed goal against the blue-shite was given - and we really would be in there.
They really do need to cast their bread upon the water in January

regards

Seeing as they've not said a word for ages, I'm not really sure what to expect in january.
Hopefully there will be enough for 2-3 players, albeit maybe 1 loan.

The number of players we may get isn't the important thing.

Well, thats a given. But sadly we need more than one quality player, so I'm hoping for 2-3.
That they have to be good is so obvious even Tom Werner understands it.

Maybe they have learnt a vital lesson - keep your powder dry, your cards close to your chest and shut the fuck up about any dealings

regards

I agree with Ross to an extent. If I were the owners I wouldn't be gambling the clubs money / future on a potential fourth placed finish. We are not very good right now and in true mid-table fashion our results cannot be predicted.

That said, you can be just as dumb in the summer as you can in January. There are good deals to be had in January despite it being a tougher market - it gets proven every year. We need our management to make the right decisions and that is the case regardless of what time of year they choose to buy players.

After which we have

Man Utd (a)
Norwich (h)
Arsenal (a)
Man City (a)

How about we all suspend the "4th is possible" talk until after the City game?

Bejezuz. I doubt anyone has had a tougher 4 game run than that this season, how the feck did we manage to drop those 3 all away inside 4 games. I wonder if any are reschedules.
9pts minimum from those 4 😉

He did indeed. Powerful - but does he score goals ? We have enough non-scoring players in our squad already.

They are the reverse (almost) of the 4 game sequence we had in Aug/Sep

Man City (h) 2-2
Arsenal (h) 0-2
Sunderland (a) 1-1
Man Utd (h) 1-2

I'm confident that we'll bring in a striker or 2. We're not too far off and we're playing good footy. Get in another decent striker, be more clinical in front of goal and we'll go places. its all about the fine margins. We've dominated alot of games without getting the right result. The tide will turn. Yesterdays away win without a recognised striker is encouraging. Greater consistency and clinical finishing will rocket us up the table.

We're in a amazing position to only be 4 points off 4th. I always said that as long as we're no more than 8 points off 4th come january then we have a realistic chance of champions league. Nothing ive seen in the premiiership so far has changed my opinion. Im just hoping that Rafa hasn't got the old torres back on scoring form and that sunderland are just shit. If we bring in 2 quality forwards then we'll definitely get 4th THIS season. We create enough chances per match we just normally miss them.

Lets hope we have a bit more luck this time round.... we fucked it up tactically against Arsenal even though we actually were playing quite well, United we were the better team but they had the Ref in their pocket and City we fucking threw it away with a silly mistake at the death.

Im hoping that last nights late win after coming from behind i sexactly the morale turning stuff we needed.

And on the whole four points from fourth thing the bare facts remain that Arsenal and Spurs and Chelsea have much superior squads to ours and Everton have also got in the groove....

I dont reckon we will do it....

But then thats three wins in a row now so!!

I may be quiffing, but isn't it 4 points from 7th due to goal difference? Only glanced at the table after the match but that's what it looked like to me.

I know that everton, spurs and west brom are all on 26 points. With arsenal on 24 and stoke and swansea on 23. Finally then us, west ham and norwich on 22 points.

Tal is right, let's stop having faith because that's not what being a fan is about.

He's not saying lose faith. He's actually being pragmatic before we set ourselves up for a fall. How many times have we done this in recent seasons? Its a massive cliche but, one game at a time. Have faith in that game, support and get behind the team, help the team get a result and then move on to the next. This constant looking ahead at so called "shite" teams is doing my head in.

Of course I want to beat Villa and Fulham at home, and I have faith that we can but lets be practical. We are tenth and the reason we are not higher is because we havent go the results. Plus the reason we are so close to 4th is because the teams above us keep losing. Have we got better or have teams like Arsenal and Spurs dropped? Its probably a bit of both, coupled with Everton and WBA being stronger than one would have expected at this stage.

Don't think anyone is looking ahead ... Everyone knows we aren't a 'given' for any game this year - even 'easy' cup games are going to be tough. But that doesn't mean we can't dream a bit ... I don't think it will be easy to beat Villa - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if we have 100 shots on goal and draw 0-0. But ... I want to dream, I want to believe we can get on this run ...

@thisisanfield: LFC next 5 fixtures: Villa (h), Fulham (h), Stoke (a), QPR (a), Sunderland (h). Four points off fourth place at moment. Interesting.

Have been thinking the same to myself the last few weeks.... I think we can win all of those on paper.... But I'd be happy with 12 points from that.... I reckon by new year we could be 4th....

It will certainly help and negotiations for players in January if we are looking like making a decent run for CL football.

12 points from that would be fantastic. Stoke away is always going to be a c*nt of a fixture and QPR away might be a toughie too. All the home games are must win. Fulham could be tricky.

Stoke away is always a shite game. They've also conceded the fewest goals at home in the league.
I'd love to beat them though, and Pulis!

QPR could be tricky as we saw last year. They're still a horrendously unbalanced side who ship goals, but Harry will make them tough to beat.

12 points would be fantastic, but lets take one game at a time.
Villa will probably be tough aswell... But if we are going to finish higher up the table the next 3 home games are a must win.

I was thinking 11 points from the next 5 games i'd be happy with. 3 wins and 2 draws from the next 5 games should be our minimum aim. Stoke will be the toughest out of the lot.

Imo we are as good a shout as the rest of the pack chasing 4th this Season as the overall standard of quality seems to have a dropped especially with Arsenal's demise and Spurs having a hard time finding the right balance.

Everton somehow could prove our sternest opponent as they've found a good balance and often performs rather decent.

For us most comes down to whether Suarez can stay fit, but if he manages to do so, and we can perhaps add one or two improvements come January we should be right in the mix come May.

Actually we are allowed to be hopeful that the owners might accept a decent budget come Jan, baring in mind the prospect of many ChL millions ahead. In that light the next five fixtures can be extremely vital for our future, a good run of results and I believe we could indeed see some positive reactions from the owners too. (That is if they are not completely skint of course).
