fuck ridicule you shouldn't need to feel like you are walking on eggshells on fucking football forum.
my opinion of carra was under gh I thought he was terribly overrated and said so (I'm never going to rate a fullback who gives fuck all going forwards). in came rafa and I said over and over again he should start at centre back, rafa gave him his chance there and carra blossemed into (imho) a world class centre back, he was at the top of his game for 3 years and in the top 5 defenders in world football and then (again, imho) in the past two/three went to pieces and has become more of a liability than an asset. not afraid to say any of that, indeed I've said I was saying at the time.

Strange you're getting worked up neil - nobody has had a pop at you here that I can see. Why the drama ?

🙂

not getting worked up at all, was saying to modo he shouldn't feel like he has to walk on egg shells.

Thank god you did that, I really got the sense he has been holding back with his posts over the last year or so.

Carragher just comes across as an arrogant and dislikeable player on the football pitch, the main problem I have with him is he thinks he's better than he is and Liverpool fans think he's better than he is and that was true even in his prime.

I'm beginning to think you might be mental.

Carragher arrogant?

Wow

He is arrogant, he thinks he knows best and everyone should do exactly as he says, there's an argument for being a vocal organiser in defence but a lot of the time he intimidates as opposed to organising them. Skrtel over the years is the prime example of this. Also the interviews he gives where he cant handle reasonable questions being asked about him coming to the end of his playing days and hits back with childish remarks shows this too.

I was pretty indifferent to carra as a person but when he lashed out at arbeloa (who at the time was probably my favorite player) that put me right off him.

Since we're being sincere...
I wanted Arbeloa to punch him.

Exactly, people were saying it showed how much he wanted to win and how great his commitment was etc. Bullshit, it shows a complete lack of respect to a fellow professional and a hugely underrated player.

Carragher is one of the most ordinary non-arrogant not-up-his-own-arse footballers out there. Doesn't always do the right things I agree but don't confuse being overly passionate with arrogance and a lack of respect. I think that's plain wild assumption.

I'll say one more thing - even though he was not blessed with the natural talent of some other more technical players - if all the players in our team possessed the work ethic and sheer passion of Carragher we'd be in a much better place as a football team.

I'd put him in the same bracket as Roy Keane for effort, his vocal nature often encouraging others, rather than just screaming at them.

Look at Flanno's debut last year, he played next to Carra and was supported the entire game.

Just cos Carra's playing days are limited doesn't mean it's time to just on an 'i told you he was shit' bandwagon.

You see I completely disagree, maybe we view arrogance differently. I have no problem with his commitment and his passion, it's his strength and it's what's made him a great defender in the past, however there's a mix, so many times he needlessly mouths of to his team mates clearly demotivating them and compounding any small mistakes they've made when there's no need but he's deemed he knows best, that's what I mean by the arrogance, he'd be better off focus on his game, Arbeloa as mentioned before is the perfect example, as are his times with Skrtel.

there is passion and there is bang of fucking order and carra stepped over that line when he pushed arbeloa.
other than that though I respect him (carra) as a person and his 'who's bigger than liverpool' line is absolutely classic.

Indeed.

If Carragher was half as arrogant as people think he is he probably wouldn't have made it.

I think people moaning about Carra might be able to begin to construct a point if we hadn't had a very strong defense for the past ten years with him there throughout, but we have so it just sounds really fucking stupid.

Well if he's bang out of order once every 500 games or so, I suppose he cant be that bad.

Wonderful servant of LFC and as said above if only all the squad had the same work ethic.
