They seem to have instructed the ball boys to do it, which I guess adds a level of deniability as they technically aren't part of the team/squad.

They did. But they had a sub who stood in front of the keeper trying to block him from giving the keeper the towel before that.

Hakimi threw at least one towel into the crowd.

So they were all in on it.. something id expect from Mourinho.

God, I so miss watching this guy play in our shirt at Anfield. Pace, drive, fire, humility, ambition, and that little bit of mischief on the pitch - a quintessential Liverpool player.
