Alonso's debut was one of the best I've seen.
Then maybe, just maybe, Aquilani's second and third Seasons here will be awesome before he turns shite again.

If there's an opposite pattern that is.

I think there's a youtube of Alonso in his first season against Fulham or Spurs

The PassMaster or sommat

It is enough to make a grown man cry

I don't think this lad's confidence is anywhere we it should be ... You cannot play a kid on and off, and expect him to be able to 'turn it on and off' every few games he gets a start. If Rafa makes it to next year, Aquilani is gone and will probably return to past heights. We on the other hand will have Lucas! 🙂
Fuck confidence, fuck excuses and fuck everything that turns us away from the fact that this squad has been 6 years in the making and its simply not good enough!!

Aqualani may come good, but right now he looks like a waste of money.....other than what he did for Kuyts goal today he was shit!! Was actually glad to see Lucas come on!!

Now to see in that cnut Terry gets any form of abuse at turf moore!

That's an incorrect use of ** khl.

I was trying to indicate I was whising for something to happen...

What's the correct typing for "wishing-for" then?

*spoil sport*

(Here I'm not "wishing" just thinking to myself).
That's not right either.

*stomps out of thread in exasperation*

"dammit"

?

Let's not get carried away Khl, he's no Alonso.

He obviously needs time, he's played in *Italy* all his life, he's used to having far more time on the ball than he's being afforded here, especially against a team like Bolton. He might be finding it a bit easier if he had been eased into the team with some sub appearences, but hey.
Alonso's league debut was incidentally aganst Bolton, no?

A much better Bolton side too I might add, with Jay2 and all.

By Jove I think he's got it!

The transition from Spain to England is much easier than Italy to England.

Thank the lord some sensible people are on this site, Mike Hunt seems to resemble the pun of his name.

We're damned unlucky if we've signed one of Brazil's rising stars and one of Italy's rising stars and they're both shit.

I haven't seen the you tube but both those games were boss. I think it was Spurs that he put on a 90 min masterclass and he came on at half time against Fulham, 0-2 down and we won 4-2.

I've seen the Alonso youtube about 20 times. It's phenomenal.

Yea Aqualani was poor today but what a knee jerk to call him a flop. People we're get hard after his encouraging performance against Spurs. Another assist today for him so lets look to that positive.

I felt he was trying too hard to play the ball first time which resulted in him giving away the ball time after time. He needs to relax and decide when to play it first time and when to retain possesion and keep it simple.

Let's not lose faith yet folks.

I think we're all seeing why Benitez hasn't trusted him much, but Benitez can't keep freezing out expensive players. He's got to keep faith in Purple and adjust his game to the English league. It's a coaching challenge he shouldn't shy away from.

It's all a bit worrying, but Aquilani does have talent and as a club, we've got to keep faith in him and at least give him 3-4 months to sort himself out.

He'll have to improve on this performance if he's going to make the WC squad, surely.

Same here, Dave. It's a wonderful video.

Yeah it was Spurs

Pinging the ball all over the place like a slim Janbo
When he played in that position, babysitting the center backs and distributing everything from deep, I didn't think it was his most effective roll for the team. That said, that game was individually so fucking impressive.

Who is his competition for the Italian team and squad? Pirlo and De Rossi are the obvious starters. Presume Gattuso is in the frame too.

What a shite thread and some shitty replys.
The lad is class, thats obvious. A poor match against Bolton isnt going to change that.
What cunts like Mike Hunt dont understand is that some players take longer to settle. Wrighting him off after 10ish games and 4 months is so stupid that it hurts.

The midfield Morientes? Give me a fucking break.

Montolivo is a similar type of player and may be ahead of him too.

Was he so bad today then?

I remember that game was only broadcast on Irish TV at the time, it was a 3 o'clock Saturday game. It was a majestic performance.

The two lads we faced against Fiorentina: Montolivo & Marchionni as well.

Camoranesi can also be used at CM.

Ross> can't even recall the score was it 1-1?

Anyhow, it's a lovely compilation of El Surgeon at his scalpel-sharp best

I miss him and his handsome face and gingery beard and cute accent

I miss him I miss him I miss him!

If we're thinking of the same game I believe it was 2-2. One of the best individual performances I've seen.

In fairness to Alberto, he needs a run of games. All this stop-start nonsense is doing nothing for his confidence or his development. He should have been in at Wolves after a decent showing in the previous game.

Perhaps there are question marks over his attitude? Or perhaps he's a poor trainer? It's quite clear that Benitez doesn't trust him to play regularly at the moment. I think there are definite signs of class but the irregularity of his appearances and Benitez's undoubted preference for a fundamentally limited footballer are not good signs.

Or perhaps Benitez is just so scared of losing that he'd sooner concentrate on staying solid than experiment with the unknown.
