Allen's impact

The 3 top passing combinations all involve Coutinho. He was really pulling the string yesterday and his passing game seems to be returning. Another great thing: the passing between the two CBs didn't make the list. Also passing between Allen and Gerrard is surprisingly low on the list. All of this shows that we tried to pass forward intelligently at every opportunity, this was not possession for the sake of possession.

Joe Allen is an excellent player, hopefully he can really start showing this now with a run of games. Still haven't forgiven him for missing that sitter @ 1-2 in the Derby mind!

When he's really, really, on form, he's one of those players who seems to stop time when he picks his pass. There can be frantic movement all around him and he just calmly makes his decision. I still hope for him to get back to that peak, because he's a special talent when he's confident.

Well said. I saw this quality in his first few games for us and I guess that's why I wasn't ready to give up on him no matter how poorly he played since. He really did lose confidence dramatically, didn't he? Such a big contrast...
