Unfortunately there's no article of substance to back up the headline. But if we were getting rid of 5 players because they're just not good enough, for damage reducing PR after a disaster of a league season, or simply to just raise funds because the American's are fucked if they're breaking the bank for us......

Who would be your five? And can we have some "special" award for the first person who posts Suarez?

Downing
Adam
Johnson (not really bad but we'd get a decent fee)
Maxi (good enough but sadly doesn't get a look in, so we can as well sell him instead)
Spearing

Is this something you've heard on the grapevine or a prediction? Regardless i'd ship off;
Maxi
Kuyt
Aurelio
Adam
Cole
Aquilani

Downing's close, but I'm not quite sure.

Spearing really? He's a superb squad member.

Downing - I don't think we need him, and we'll get 10-12 million from Villa or Sunderland.
Adam - He's not really needed (Sorry Doc_Mac). I'd rather give his spot, and minutes, to Shelvey
GlenJo - If Madrid really offer 16 mill, we'd be mad not to sell.
Aquiliani - no role on team, so no need to pay his wages
Cole - hopefully we get 4-5 million

Henderson
Carroll
Downing
Adam
Enrique

Consider it a cleansing exercise, so that we can pretend the whole pathetic season never happened

Yeah, I should have said, I'd rather concentrate on the playing squad, it's pretty much a given Aqua and Cole won't play for us again.

Downing
Adam
Kuyt
Agger - raise funds replace with Coates
Johnson - raise funds replace with Clyne

We shouldn't even consider selling our best players - so Agger is/should absolutely not be sold.
Kuyt is a loyal servant and shouldn't be sold unless he himself wants to leave.

We need transfer funds and as much as I love Agger, I think he can be used to raise a significant amount of cash.
We have to take risks I guess, and Id sacrifice Agger and Johnson.
We'd get about £35-40 selling those players.

Adam. We need better in midfield and he should fetch a good fee.

Aurelio. Good as he is he's a waste of a squad number.

Downing. I don't like watching him play football.

Flanagan. Send him out on loan. Whatever. I don't want to see him starting for us any time soon.

That's it. If we had a limitless supply of money I'd get rid of a few more but we won't get enough back on the likes of Carroll, Maxi and Kuyt to make it worth our while getting rid so may as well keep them. That is unless we need to free up Maxi and Kuyt's wages (which I suspect is where all the rumours come from).

We need Agger, despite the injury problems, he's been alot better on that note this season, and look at RVP.

I'd go with:

Adam - I think he's finished anyway, I do like him but I just don't think he physically cuts it at this level

Maxi - I don't want to see him leave really, and if another manager came in he might appreciate his talents more, but he's the wrong side of 30 and wants to play regularly.

Aurelio - Good player, terrible injury record. Promote young Robbo and be on the look out for a left back

Downing - While we can still get back something reasonable for him it might be worth it, though we're incredibly short on numbers outwide.

I'd be tempted to go with Carroll, despite him showing improvement, if someone would pay £20m for him then it's worth taking, despite the loss. He's been poor overall and as seen on Saturday, he needs half a dozen chances before he puts one away. I tend to take Keni's view on him and the likes of Kuyt though, if we're not going to get a decent fee we may aswell see if they can be kept as squad players.

I don't think the squad is great, but I do think it could have been utilised alot better and too many times Kenny has got it horribly wrong. What is wrong at all with the idea of playing Shelvey for the rest of the season and putting Sterling on the bench? I don't get the over protection when the same players who've let us down all season get a reprieve time and time again.

I will bite!
1) Suarez (because or the two BIG Rs does not like him and they are always right)
2) Maxi (because he will want to move on without playing chances)
3) Downing (failed to deliver)
4) Carroll (might get a few bib for him while we can)
5) Kuyt (He wants to play and KD would not let him)

Doni - get another home grown keeper for the bench and free up space for outfield foreigners
Carroll - we probably need to make another 4 or 5 signings to get more output from him. Not worth the hassle is he?
Adam - hes not the worst but we can and probably need to do better. Wouldn't be the worst squaddie to have though
Henderson - his Bburn performance was encouraging - he actually looked like he had a pair of balls but hes gone back into his shell again now. Steady eddie timid boring cunt
Carragher/Kuyt - if they want to see out their careers playing every week for someone. Would be a real shame to see them go but would maybe free up some wages

kuyt - he needs an extended run in the side to build up form and he simply isn't going to get it
adam - can't stand him, sell him and replace him with someone better (it wont be hard to do)
aurelio - contract is up
aqua - sell or loan out, he isn't going to be given enough games to justify his wages
cole - ditto

other than that I have no problem with everyone else staying including; downing, carroll, henderson, flanno

these arnt players i nessessarily want to go just players i expect to;
Aurelio
Kuyt
Maxi
Reina(??)
Aquaman
JC Superstar

What money do people think we'd raise with their suggestions? Nobody would want most of the players at the price we'd be willing to sell them for.

Downing=Herpes, we're stuck with him for life.
Carroll =no point in selling now while his value is at it's lowest. A good first half to next season might restore some value.
Henderson - see Carroll

Adam - is sellable and we wont take much of a hit with the fee or his wages.

Maxi, Kuyt - no point in selling either, you won't replace them for what you get. Let them see out their contracts and develop Sterling in the meantime. Hoillet coming would change this for me.

Candidates for sale are those who could be overvalued:
Reina - still very good anf declining slowly, but way too many idiots believe he'll get better with age. Lets take advantage of them.
Suarez and Johnson - both look so good at times but the reality is they're largely ineffective and would likely attract bids that overvalue them.

Largely ineffective? That's just laughable Ross. He's our top scorer and top of our assist charts. Those charts in themselves may be laughable, but this is his first full season and for the kind of attacker he is, it's reasonable enough with room for improvement with better players around him and without some stupid incident that will see him banned again (a different argument, but anyway). He's never been an out and out striker, if we actually buy one we might just see how effective he can be.

Largely ineffective.... I swear you're on a windup most of the time.
