Anyway, Babel's goal...

Nice. I'm probably one of his biggest detractors but his run and finish was very good and striker like, and he does have that pace.

Not sure whether he'd have the brains to do it in the Premiership, but it was promising, and I don't think you could dis his overall performance because the support was non-existent apart from the goal.

Promising perhaps? It'd be worth seeing what Roy has in store for him, it's at least intriguing that his first game under Roy at any level was as a lone striker.

He'll probably be going on loan tomorrow.

I can't believe Neil and Oncy are both online and they've stayed away from this thread for a good 7 minutes.

I expect carnage!

What are we expecting from him?

I've grown tired of this talk of Babel being a good prospect, he's fucking 24.
I'm not against keeping him but I doubt that he'll suddenly become world class because of a new manager.

Roy probably asked him where he wants to play and Babel answered as a striker.
So Roy went and bid £9 Million on Toivonen.

I'm hopeful he'll be a more useful player under Roy than Benitez.

I don't think anybody is expecting him to turn into Henry.

the reason I didn't do my usual 'EAT IT, BABEL HATING MOTHER ****ERS!!' in the match thread was because I didn't watch the game. saw the highlights this morning, CLINICAL from babel, so he 'does' have the ability to beat the keeper without toe poking it.

How many times has he done that again Neil?

He's still worthless.

You're worthless.

Will be the most impoved player this year and will be alot of people's player of the year.

Think back to the talent we saw before Rafa strangled it out of him.

Babel clearly has talent...

he just needs to grow some balls... play well REGULARLY and stop rapping..

He has a wicked shot and he doesnt need much space to fire one off.. He is probably one of the players in the squad with the best technique.. but he is sooooooooo fucking clueless he chooses the wrong option 80% of the time.

Id like to see him come good - but id also be happy selling him to raise more money for someone consistant.

The way he shaped his body to shoot (quite Henry-like), the goalie could have read it and maybe saved that shot (I know he did not). I wonder whether he ever considered the near post as the goalie seemed to have come out of position.

Babel is one of the best finishers at the club. I honestly do believe we should accept him as a specialist impact player. Some players are just made to be brought on later in the game. If we could graft Babel's finishing onto N'Gog's general play we'd have a beast of a player. That's possible right?

I'd say Babel is a bit Cisse-like, in that he's quite an instinctive finisher.

Give him too much time to think, and chances are he might pick the wrong option, but in a situation like that where it's a matter of control the ball and shoot, he seems to do better.

How best to take advantage of this, I don't know, but that's what I reckon about him

The way things stand at the minute, with Aquilani going and Kuyt's future in doubt, we need to get the most out of what we've got. He's brainless and his attitude has really fucked me off at times but he took his goal well, timed his run and his pace in behind is always a threat, he deserves another go at least.

Just look what Roy did for Bobby Zamoras game while he was at Fulham. Would it not be out of the realms of possibility to do similar with Babel?

The bottom line is he had one chance and took it.

However, he was quite anonymous apart from that.

I would really like to see him and Torres given a run together up front.

He was having an awful game up to the goal, but you can't really argue with a ratio of one goal every 45 minutes. He should play against City IMO, whether as a starter (on the right, where his pace could trouble Zabaleta) or as a sub. His confidence will be high after that goal, and he's a player who depends on confidence. This is a huge chance for him, with a new manager, and I really hope we can make the most of what he's able to offer, because our squad is otherwise pretty thin on pace and unpredictability.

It'll be interesting to see who starts at City and whether Hodgson is still keen to protect Torres and stick with N'Gog (or Babel).

I think Torres is a certainty to start after getting 45 against Trabzonspor.

Yeah probably, he looked sharp aswell.

Ah the usual "its Rafa's fault" mantra for anyone who underperformed. So who's fault was Babel's lazy arsed, touch of a rapist (apart from the goal) performance on Thursday?

He's bollocks and if he's anyone's player of the year apart from Neil's then I'll eat my fucking hat.

That's something I mentioned last year too, I think babel has far more talent than N'gog...but far less heart.

I've only just seen the goal. He reminded me of Fowler in the way he scored it. Wonderful.
