Liverpool have been handed a boost in the chase for Brazilian international midfielder Bernard after it emerged Tottenham Hotspur cooled their interest in the highly-rated youngster.
Spurs scouts are believed to have been been impressed by Bernard's performances at this summer's Confederations Cup in Brazil where they were keeping tabs on Paulinho.
However, with a £17 million deal to bring Paulinho to White Hart Lane having since been confirmed, Spurs are now understood to have cooled their interest in Bernard.
SportsDirect News understands that may leave Liverpool free to step up their interest in a player they too are believed to have been tracking.
After losing out on their primary summer transfer target Henrik Mkhitaryan, who joined Borussia Dortmund in a £24.5m move from Shakhtar Donetsk, the Anfield club are expected to target the acquisition of an attacking midfielder in the coming weeks.
Atletico Mineiro midfielder Bernard, 20, would likely be available for a fee in the region of £15-20m.
Liverpool are also understood to be interested in Ajax's highly-rated Danish international Christian Eriksen, who is believed to be available for a reduced price of £15m after entering the last year of his contract with the Eredivisie club.
