Last week Boca Juniors honoured its idol Martin Palermo's retirement with a huge send off party - placing Velez Sarsfield's Clausura triumph to a minor media event.

There were presents from kids for "El Titan", tears from Martin Palermo, and an emotive video from family was shown, as well as chants from the loving fans, speeches from those close to him and even the goal posts that stand infront of the stands where "LA 12" (it's most fanatical fan group) is located where given to him as a going away present. The same goal post where he scored his last goal against River.

However what was supposed to be a magnificent unique and original present has turned into a gigantic farce.

This same goal posts where he scored his last goal against River are demistifying the saying - "If you give it away as a present you don't ask for it back".

On Wednesday La Bombonera will be the stadium where Huracan and Gimnasia will fight it out for a chance at a promotion play off against San Martin. The Club had no idea that this was in the cards.

The new replacement goal posts will not be arriving until later next week. Boca has had to ask Palermo for his goal posts back, on a loan, until the issue is resolved.

I will always remember him for "that" Copa America match.

What a tool

I was reading on the BBC that River Plate, Argentina's most successful club, have a play off match to avoid relegation.

haha yeah I was watching their last game against Lanus - River conceded the winner right at the death. This means river for first time in their history has to playoff to stay in top flight.

they should survive ...

Belgrano go 1-0 up in the first leg!

Penalty after a blatant handball in the box by River.

30 mins into the match

Matias Almeyda booked and will now miss the 2nd leg for River ... big big loss.

HOLY SHIT!

RIVER FANS IN BALACLAVAS TEAR DOWN THE FENCING AND ATTACK THE RIVER PLATE PLAYERS!

This is nuts.
River Plate manager crying in the dugout [/quote]

Yeah man crazy eh.

Referee said game will continue, but any more trouble and it'll be called off.

I'm fairly sure that's what the River fans want.

Ferrari booked now for River, misses the 2nd leg.

That's 3 players now.

What a farce.

The earlier game was no different, Huracan were reduced to 9 men in the first half ... in their 2-0 defeat to Gimnasia.
