Bye bye Kenny (part 2)!!!!!

I have seen the interview, or at least all of it available, from which those comments were taken on the BBC and he didn't say that.

He may well have said it outside the interview shown but I would still like to see the context to it if he did.

I haven't seen or read anything either. Just what was posted here.

The systemic failure was well underway for a couple of years before Dalglish got here and I'd give him another season to make things better, but I reckon he already blew his big chance by buying a load of shit when he had the cash last summer.

this is exactly it . Whereas others are unhappy with kenny's tactics , subs and that side of thing , it's the crap transfers and standard of player we have which is the main issue for me . We'll most likely have to stick with this crap for sometime so i'm not too hopefully of a dramatic change in fortunes next season .

They have the the comments in the text but when you play the interview there is nothing.
Perhaps they have cropped the interview short. You would think though that they would include those comments if they are going to use them to headline the piece
Its exactly what he said on Sky.

And hes right. Our season was 3 trophies.
We won one, almost won another and failed miserably in the third.
That is not bad.

If you are only looking at the league then it would be different. Our season as a whole has been not bad.

Ermmm..... there is a subtle difference to be fair... Don't misunderstand me I dont serenade myself to sleep at night singing Blue moon or nothing, they have just never been a team ive greatly disliked, a condition which applies to most all other clubs.

Why do you want United to win??
United to win!!!
Never in a thousand years!!!

That's only the case if you treat all competitions equally. But no one does because the three competitions are not equal.

League form takes priority. The players themselves have said it throughout the season. I don't recall anyone stating at the beginning of the season that our goal was to win a trophy. That was always considered a bonus more than anything.

I dont remember anyone stating any goal at the start of the season Ken. Some months in Henry said top 4 was our aim.
And I agree the league is more important.
But a BAD league campaign doesnt mean a bad season.
I dont in any way think it is a good season. But 'Not bad' as a season overall is about right.
Terrible in the league, great in the two cups.

I think most posters said they expected a fight for top 4 but perhaps would accept finishing outside of it as long as it was close'ish. I have a bad memory so perhaps I'm not remembering right. Everyone at the club also repeatedly stated that whilst the cups are nice and everything, the league is what matters.

It feels like we're trying to make ourselves feel better by changing the goalposts after we've failed. I can't really understand how anyone can label this season as anything other than a bit of an embarrassment so I guess we just see things differently.

But those are statements ABOUT the league surely.
I would think our aim is to win cups too.
Otherwise why play any first team players in them?
Our league form has been an embarrassment but in isolation.

I'm not trying to say the cups are worthless. I've always defended the League Cup for example when almost everyone else dismissed it during better times. Of course we want to do well in them but they obviously further down on our list of priorities. Perhaps 20 / 30 years ago our season would've been judged more favourably. These days your season is defined by your performance in the league and in Europe. We've not been in Europe and therefore the focus has been on the league.

I don't care what other people say about Liverpool but for the sake of argument - this season we've been laughed at it in a manner than goes beyond the normal banter and taunts and the attitude of other fans is always telling.

Read on EST that we've apperantly approached Martinez about becoming our new manager. True or not, it will an interesting couple of weeks after sunday.

I don't think he belongs in the "young British manager" category.
absolutely. which is why these young british managers are laughable suggestions.

I think he's very underrated and I also think he can spot good players.

Wigan have always spotted good players regardless of who the manager was.

we have been shocking - we are almost 40 points off the top, languishing in mid table medioctity. We have spent 47m or so on midfield and have one of the worst midfield i can remember since oyvind leonardsen times. Theres is reason this is our second worst league performance since god knows when.

But they were bought under Bruce who has an outstanding record for discovering talent

Yeah he discovered half of the United reserves when he was at Sunderland.

What I'm saying is there's a good backroom team there identifying targets, it's pretty obvious.

Quite. It's a bit sad how the fact we now don't play a shocking mess in the cups is considered some kind of abuse of 'the Liverpool Way'. We should try to win every competition. For the first season in ages we've tried to do that. Yet again we failed in the league. Obviously it has to improve dramatically, but let's not got throwing cups away in November and January.

Valencia 500k, Palacios 1m.

Fair enough, them two were bargains.

As for Martinez, im not so sure about him. Why did it take so long for him to find a formation that works for them - 3-5-2? they've had some brilliant results in the last few months and they did it by playing great football but does that really mean Martinez is a top manager?

Would he be capable of coping with the pressure of managing Liverpool? Great to give managers a chance at a bigger Club, but Martinez would be a really big gamble imo.

Bruce signed McCarthy as well or was it Martinez?

Wigan finished up pretty much where they're meant to finish up.

A run of good form doesn't make a great manager.

You do know I was being sarcastic?
