I know the idea is to remain compact and solid to give the other players a platerm to attack but one of alonso or masher has to take responsibity and play further forwards taking on attacking responsibility whilst at the same time giving more defensive responsibility to his partner.

alonso and masher used to hang back but alonso had the ability to dictate play from a deep position, I don't see lucas or masher with the ability to do that so they need to flip a coin and decide who is going to be the more defensive of the pair and the more attacking of the pair.

either that or drop one of them push gerrard deeper and play yossi in the hole.

Get Aquilani fit and play 433

just concentrating on the here and now, aqua is back in a month and we could be well of the pace by then.

Gerrard and Torres were really isolated, Masher and Lucas seemed to be doing pretty much the same job.

when you have the passing ability of alonso you can afford to sit deep if you haven't one of you has to move forward to close the gap between midfield and attack, it isn't rocked science and admittedly it leaves you open but no guts no glory, we weren't exactly compact even WITH lucas and masher sitting deep.

[/quote]We've got back to back home games v stoke and Villa, followed by Bolton and Burnley.
That will be 6 weeks from when we signed Aquilani who is light training and was 4 to 8 weeks from fitness.
I would suggest to you that if we are well off the pace after those 4 games then our problems will be much bigger than just getting Aquilani fit.

1 shit game against top 6 oppo. The world isnt falling.
We need to take 12 points from the next 4 games.

Masch offered more in the game than Lucas....I can't help but notice Lucas not offering options or running into spaces and asking for the ball....and whenever he got the ball, his first touch and turns were poor, resulting in us losing possession and advantage...He is not even a masch-kind of player...Slow on the ball, lacking in awareness and confidence..Masch was doing a 2-men job and playing 2 roles essentially...He was breaking opponents attack and starting our own, while previously he would feed to Alonso for him to launch our attack...Lucas doesn't offer that...

agreed that masch lacks discipline as he gets frustrated easily and gets out of position at times, but with lucas at his side and the distrust Masch has on him, i'm seeing Masch being overworked in the upcoming matches...Masch simply did not trust lucas when we were in possession yesterday...i noticed 1 or 2 passes from masch to lucas and lucas lost control of it eventually...Likewise for the other teammates..they did not trust lucas on the ball...

Lucas was poor, and i'm surprised Rafa didn't see that...for someone so knowledgeable and detailed, he either refused to accept that fact or he has lost it...

this is an important year for liverpool...we've got to win it this year...Rafa get your players and tactics right...if a player is shit, he's shit, trust the fans as much as we trust you....

We need to get the engine-room working. This is more important than using Gerrard in the free role at the moment. he need to play CM to drive the team on from there. We have alternatives further up for now. Riera is fit and Benayoun was very good when he came on. As long as Lucas dont contribute by anything but passing the ball 5 yards back he cant play in these kind of games.

Look at the match thread, it is funny how there seem to be a mini wank fest whenever lucas won a challenge and passed sideways. There is going to be a grand mass orgy when he finally learns how to contribute to the attack. 😀

trust is neither here nor their, even if your partner isn't doing his job you still need to do yours.

Lucas did play well but still cant pass forwards. He did break up play very effectively though and his work rate was first class.

Christ what a shit thread, we won the game, masch and lucas looked better than previous games together and will hopefully get better. Chill out

Oh and spidey the one man that can find a cloud in a clear sky!!

This thread was posted after the Spurs game and it was resurrected in honour of our win tonight.

Good contribution though.
