That's certainly how it turned out. I've always wondered whether it was GH's original intention though.

He should know that first team football is not guaranteed if he's to join a club like ours.

Everyone was pretty much resigned to the fact that Redknapp was finished then anyway. Macca was brought in for experience alongside the likes of Stevie, Thommo and Murphy. He got sent off at Highbury in the first week of the season and was used sparingly after that, it was a few months into the season before he made his mark on the side and was played regularly.

macca set pieces were incredible, they used to just hang in the air and just beg someone to put their head through, even the likes of heskey was filling his boots. liverpool scored the most headed goals in the league in 2001 and it was easy to see why.

Hyypia benefited alot too. I remember the last weeks of the season, it seemed like in every game (and we struggled in a few of them) you could rely on a Macca setpiece to get a goal.
