All down to Benfica now.

Although their 2018/19 European campaign doesn't begin until September 18, the Reds' seeding still needs to be determined.
And it received a big boost on Wednesday night after Basel's shock exit in the second qualifying stage to PAOK.
The Swiss club's elimination means Liverpool are now the highest-ranked third seeds in the competition - and will move up into Pot 2 if Benfica fail to qualify for the group stages.
The Portuguese will meet Fenerbahce in a two-legged tie on August 7 and 14, and will face one further hurdle if they progress.
Provisional Champions League group draw pots 2018/19 - if Liverpool are Pot 3

Pot 1: Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Lokomotiv Moscow
Pot 2: Borussia Dortmund, FC Porto, Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica, Napoli, Tottenham Hotspur, Roma
Pot 3: Liverpool, Dinamo Kiev, Schalke, Lyon, Monaco, Salzburg, CSKA Moscow, PSV Eindhoven
Pot 4: Valencia, Viktoria Plzen, Celtic, Club Brugge, Galatasaray, FK Astana, Inter Milan, Hoffenheim
If Benfica were to be eliminated by Fenerbahce, then the Turkish side would move into Pot 4 - providing they win their next qualifier - and could potentially make the pots look something like this:

Thats terrible seeding.

I think the year between the 2 finals where we were not in Europe at all is what is keeping us down for now.

Huge difference in the group we are likely to face. Need another strong European campaign this year to ensure we get back in the top 2 pots for future years.

How is it that Benfica is playing qualifying games yet seeded in a higher pot than us? Do ufea need to take another look at this or should we just be quiet about it and enjoy the fact that we won't have to play a CL qualifier ourselves...

I think it has to do with us finishing 4th and therefore not having to play in the qualifying round. Changed that last year I think.

Was it benfica that had the issue with players leaving after fans came to smash then up at the training ground and have had lots of players leave as a result

No. Sporting.

We got extremely lucky with the draw last year.

Is it time to get the big boys early door.

Imagine being one of the pot 1 teams and getting Liverpool and Roma.
