No, it’s not rocket science. It’s more tarot cards and crystal ball predicting that we will suddenly go from 1,6 points per game to 2,1 for the last 14 games.

We have a great attack but the Burnley game could be the standard and not Newcastle.
A few more wins and points and then a prediction like that could make sense.

The problem with you my friend, is that you're an idiot.

Slot to land us in 8th place and we win big ears with a Salah penalty which Curtis dived for.

Awkwardness reigns in the summer when we try to sack Slot anyway. Dreamy leads the other superfans in a massive protest.

Unless I have misunderstood (ALWAYS possible), then your own argument relies on results being similar?

I mean, if take Chelsea, and the approach is that if we beat them in the game against them then we get top 5 then it has to be assumed that both us and Chelsea get broadly the same amount of points each in the other 13 games.

Results aside the 'eye test' says we're on an upward curve. Wirtz, Ekitike, Kerkez, Macca, Konate, Jones and even Gakpo, looking to have improved their form from earlier in the season.

Not that everything will be rosy from here on, especially with tough CL games on the horizon, however we are looking better having won 3 of the past 4, and even in the Bournemouth game we had a dominant period at 2-2 where we looked the more likely to win it, before conceding a last minute goal.

Imagine sacking Slot after winning the league and CL in his first two seasons and mostly likely the Super Cup.

Madness. We are not Real Madrid.

If we win big ears Slot stays 100%.

United must fancy themselves with no games in Europe.

Our issue is whether Slot will rotate and get it right. It would be helpful if we could avoid as many PL teams as possible in the Champions League

I hope we will make it because the team is underperforming, and could improve, but I have zero evidence to support it.

If I look at the data dispassionately, no, of course we won't make 5th place. The only reason we are knocking about is because we started with 15 points in 5 games.

Our form for a while has been utterly shit and would put us in like 8th.

No it's just that we're close to them both and therefore have to beat just one of them over the next 14 games. I think we're considerably better than both of them now that the shock of autumn is over and Wirtz and Kerkez and a few others are in good form and contributing well. I'm not saying we'll go on a 10 game winning streak or anything but I'd expect us to get at least 2 points a game from here, which is modest for a team with so many top class players. Utd are ok but a lot is just the post-sacking bounce. We're still a much better team. Chelsea are similar, really.

Exactly. There have been loads of good signs. People just don't want to see them because they like melting down etc. Fans love wallowing.

Nah, even if you take our form since beginning of December, we're on track for 62 points (1.64 points per game since then). All we need to do is perform how we are doing and win a game or so more out of the last 14 games.

Edit, and that's excluding a win at end of November that'd have us at 1.75

I thought it was Salah who won us the league.

Our previous 6 league games have resulted in 7 points. Thats our current form if you look at the isolated league form for, roughly, the last month.

Form development last 6 league games:

3. Villa 7 points, 1,16 points per game trajectory
4. Utd 12 points, 2 points per game trajectory
5. Chelsea 11 points, 1,83 points per game trajectory
6. Liverpool 7 points, 1,16 points per game trajectory

Chelsea and Utd look in much better form and Villa have started to drop off.

This is why I'd like to see some more consistent wins over the next games to see us reach the points total we need.
The optimistic side of me thinks we've turned a corner, but the realist looks at the last 6 league games and want 2-3 more wins from the next 3-4 games to set a better and more realistic trajectory points wise.

I just have a feeling it will be really tight, but I really hope we make it and dont have to be reliant on getting results in those last league games this season.

I think it's more useful to use more games rather than less. Short term form tends not to hold true for long. But, we'll see how we go.

Last 10 games have us behind Villa and Utd but infront of Chelsea, so not the best development iow. Yet.

I'd be more confident with all of this if I thought we had a suitable squad in defense.

I don't think we do.

So yeah, with a heap of luck we limp through, then we have a good attacking bench later in the season and a functional right back.

But more likely we get weaker still in defense as we overplay people and use players out of position. It'll cost us points.
