United must fancy themselves with no games in Europe.

Our issue is whether Slot will rotate and get it right. It would be helpful if we could avoid as many PL teams as possible in the Champions League

It will be a struggle to rotate on account of our squad, without weakening the team.

Well, we will see won't we? Nothing I've said is wrong. We are currently behind those two teams, they're both picking up more points than us in recent weeks and our defence is decimated. And while we have the better players, we also have a big bald egghead in the dugout who doesn't have a clue on how to get the best out of them.

So he’s not getting the best out of Wirtz, Hugo, Dom, Ali and Gravy with marked improvements lately in Macca and Kerkez?

I think being 6th in a shit league says it all to be honest.
No that says we went through an undeniably poor spell. It doesn't say where we are currently at. There is clearly room for optimism (I know you lack that particular 'emotion' so it's difficult to explain it to you).

I wonder had this thread/poll been created straight after the Bournemouth loss, if everyone would've been as "confident" as they seemingly are now. It's impressive how easily swayed fans are to change their opinions by the week. 95% of the season has been a total shambles, & for a well run football club the state and balance of our squad is a fucking mess and these mega cunts have sat back with their thumbs up their arses all month long and done nothing.

Now I'm hearing Gakpo's on 250k per week meanwhile we're happy to let a far more important player in Ibou walk for nothing. What are we doing here?

Konate is the dick here, I'm sure he's not been offered a pittance.

Likely many things, but you've decided that based on what you hear and read, you know exactly what they are doing, thinking, and feeling.

Not just you. I see dogboy is also sure enough about what what Konate has been offered to call him a dick.

Why do people create their own versions of reality that they dislike and then bitch about them?

My gut feel is that we will miss out. One VVD injury and it’s over, that’s how precarious our situation is in defence.

Likewise with Wirtz or Ekitike. Any prolonged absence and the goals will dry up.

We’re not winning the European Cup. Bayern would comfortably beat us at this moment.

I wish I could so easily use the past tense.

We went through a poor spell? No, we went through a near fatal spell. We are still in a poor spell until we demonstrate otherwise with some consistency. Our league form IS godawful.

Happily then the definition of 'current form' isn't restricted to 'PL only form'. 3 wins and a draw in the past 4.

Yeah we went through an undeniably poor spell of 18 games (practically half a season). We're still being propped up after winning the first 5 games.

Sorry if I don't believe we've fully turned a corner after beating Newcastle at home - a game in which we were torrid for the first 30 minutes by the way and could've been more than one goal down. What was the previous league game? Bournemouth away? Awful. It's not as if our poor days are a distant memory.

Don't tell me you're buying into the PR of the unbeaten run either in which we fluffed a load of points against Burnley, Leeds twice, Sunderland, Fulham etc etc...

We have to improve significantly if we're going to get top 5/4/whatever it is. I don't think anything I've said is outrageous given our long term performance and manager.

We aren't going to make it in the champions league and that's been obvious for ages. Hopefully we will miss out on any form of Europe.

When your team scores a goal and your reaction is "yay, we've scored, get in" and then that's immediately, and accurately followed by "oh shit, we've scored" you aren't going to succeed at anything.

We used to be the worst team at 2-0, then we were the worst team with any lead, soon we will just be the worst team.

The last time we were in the Europa league we signed Gravy, Szobo and Macca.
Signing players won’t be an issue regardless of were we finish imho.

There's no positive spin to being in the Europa League. Being in the EL in 2026 is not the same as being in the UEFA Cup 20, 30 or 40 years ago.
With the extra teams in the CL, the EL is chock full of loser teams, some of whom I've never heard of.
I'd rather miss out altogether.

I wouldn't. The Europa League would see us lose about 50% of the revenue compared to the CL. Missing out all together would be much much worse.
Suck it up and play there for one season. Play the kids and fringe players on Thursdays.

Yes great signings indeed, but we also had the Klopp factor.
There's probably a long list of players we didn't manage to sign during the years we weren't regulars in the CL and we ended up with likes of Banana and Downing.

Also, Gravy joined at the back of a failed move to Bayern.
Risky might be too strong, but it wasn't a given that Szobo would come over and fit in.
Macca was a good steady Eddie signing.
If we were competing with Barca for those signing they'd most likely tell us to fuck off.

Besides the Klopp factor,

both Szobo (£60m) and Macca's (£35m, with Julian Ward credited for the deal) transfers involved activating release clauses as well.

Klopp’s work with Endo also helped “soften the blow” of us missing out on our primary DM targets.

The squad back then had star players in their prime too.

All I’m saying is it’s possible. Look at Chelsea and Utd. The whole players don’t come because of lack of CL is exaggerated
