A work permit for the 23-year-old was received at the weekend and he has completed a medical. Frank will join from FC Midtjylland, where Brentford FC Owner Matthew Benham has the majority shareholding, for an undisclosed fee and has signed a five-year contract. He arrived in the UK yesterday, Monday 19 July, and will now undergo a period of quarantine before joining with the squad for training.

He has come from the Danish league and was one of the best midfield players in that league, we think he has the potential to develop further. All the coaches here are looking forward to working with Frank and pushing him to a higher level.”

Andros Townsend - Everton (free transfser)

[article]Andros Townsend has signed for Everton, penning a two-year contract until the end of June 2023.

The 30-year-old winger joins on a free transfer after his contract expired with Crystal Palace, where Townsend spent the past five years.

Before that, the forward – who has 13 England caps – worked with new Blues manager Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United, and Townsend revealed the combination of reuniting with the Spaniard and joining “massive and ambitious” Everton was an opportunity he could not turn down.

“I think everyone knows what Everton is. It’s a massive football club, it’s very ambitious, a club which has been trying to get back to where it belongs into Europe and beyond,” Townsend told evertontv. “I’ll be doing all I can to help the Club do that.

“Everton is a massive football club and has big ambitions next season. As the old cliché goes, it was a no-brainer.

“Rafa is very experienced. He does a lot of work on the tactical side on the training pitch, he leaves no stone unturned. But more importantly, he’s a great man, a great man-manager, and he’s always talking to you. I’m sure he will be very successful here.”

Townsend started his career at boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur, coming through the club’s youth academy and spending seven years at White Hart Lane before moving to Newcastle in 2016.

Townsend’s whirlwind stay at St James’ Park yielded four goals and two assists from 13 appearances, with Newcastle resurgent under new manager Benitez but falling short of hauling the club out of the Premier League’s relegation zone after a desperate start to the campaign.

After five seasons with Crystal Palace, the new Blue is eager to make his mark on Merseyside.

“My strengths are that I can cross a ball with my left or right foot, get balls into the box. I like to score a goal or two,” said Townsend. “I work hard off the ball, too, which is something I got better at with Rafa.

“My job now is to prove I’m good enough to be an important part of this football club and that’s what I’m working hard in training and in games – and whenever I get the opportunity in pre-season - to prove I’m good enough to be an important player here. That’s what drives me.”[/article]

Asmir Begovic - Everton (free transfser)

[article]Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has joined Everton on an initial 12-month contract with an option for a further year.

Begovic becomes the Blues’ second summer signing, following the arrival of winger Andros Townsend, and brings a wealth of top-level experience to Rafa Benitez’s squad.

The towering stopper is closing in on 400 senior club appearances – with 252 of those coming in the Premier League. Begovic was most recently with Bournemouth and has also played in the English top tier with Chelsea - where he won a league title in 2016/17 - Portsmouth and Stoke City.

Begovic has amassed 63 senior international caps for Bosnia & Herzegovina and was an instrumental figure in helping his country qualify for its first World Cup in 2014.

At club level, Begovic has enjoyed a loan spell with Italian giants AC Milan and he won a league winners’ medal during a temporary stint at Azerbaijani side Qarabag in 2019/20.

Begovic says he is savouring the opportunity to be part of a “humungous club” in Everton – and set out his hunger to play an important role in helping the Blues achieve success.

“When I first heard of the possibility of joining Everton, I was really excited,” he told evertontv.

“Opportunities like this don’t come around every day so I’m honoured and pleased to be here.

“The ambition is to get this club to where it belongs. We want to be challenging for those European spots, challenging for trophies and being in that upper echelon of the league.

“With the squad we have, the fan base, and the tradition of the Club, everything is in place for us to be successful.”

Begovic, who played 51 matches for Bournemouth last season, explained how his conversations with manager Benitez and Director of Football Marcel Brands were key in his decision to join Everton.

The keeper added he is looking forward to training alongside England number one Jordan Pickford and promising young stopper Joao Virginia – and is confident the Blues’ cohort of talented goalkeepers can bring the best out of each other.

“First and foremost, to work with people of [Rafa Benitez and Marcel Brands'] calibre is really pleasing for me and I'm looking forward to learning from them,” Begovic said.

“Just in my first couple of conversations with the manager, it's clear he has a massive knowledge of the game. He has an incredible track record in terms of what he's achieved and accomplished. To work for those sorts of managers, it's something that's very good for me.”

Begovic added: “Jordan [Pickford] is a world-class goalkeeper. I think the goalkeeping group here is fantastic.

“We’re going to push each other every single day and set those standards in training.

“We also have a great goalkeeping coach in Alan Kelly.

“I’m definitely here to compete [for a place] and to try to help this team in any way I can.”[/article]

The second half of his first year in Scotland was spent on loan at Kilmarnock but Kris has been a regular for Celtic for the past four seasons.

Thomas Frank, Brentford FC Head Coach, said: “We wanted to get another central defender in, and Kris was our first choice. We think he fits the position specific profile perfectly, especially on the ball.

“Kris is very composed and can find the right passes between the lines. His level when bringing the ball forward is very high. As a defender he has the physicality that you need, and he won his duels when he played in the Scottish league. He can help us in both boxes, with his strength in the air.

“He is a player at a good age, and we think he come straight in and be ready to perform in the Premier League. But he also fits the way we want to recruit players and work with them. He can develop as a player and both Brentford FC and Kris can move to a higher level in the coming years.”

It goes without saying that a player of his calibre has many options. We are really pleased that Kristoffer has decided to commit his future to Brentford."

"It was a very competitive recruitment process and the calibre of people that put themselves forward underlines the importance of the U21 set-up.

“Leading this age-group is a unique challenge as the obvious aim is to win matches and do well at final tournaments, but there's also a clear requirement to support Gareth Southgate and the seniors.

"Lee has a wonderful knowledge of age-group football and will also be able to put his strong club relationships to good use. We should never forget the duty of care we have as we work to support the development of our brightest emerging players and I know Lee and Ashley will get that right.”

Cole is one of the most decorated England men’s footballers of all-time, winning 107 caps during an illustrious career.

He started with Arsenal, being part of the unbeaten ‘Invincibles’ team that claimed the 2003-04 Premier League title, before helping Chelsea lift the Champions League in 2011-12. In all, he represented England at three FIFA World Cups and two UEFA European Championships, while winning the Premier League three times and the Emirates FA Cup a record seven times.

“I'm really happy to get this opportunity to support Lee and work with the best youngsters in the country," said Cole.

"I loved playing for the national team and to now get the chance to work as an England coach is a special feeling. St. George’s Park is an amazing place and I can’t wait to get started. I want to do my best to help young players to develop, and also learn from some brilliant people at the same time.”

Cole’s coaching career began with Derby County in 2019, before returning to Chelsea in a role with their academy in October that year.

In June of this year, he took part in the launch of England Football Learning’s International Player to Coach (IP2C) programme, which works with former and current international players as they transition into coaching and management. The programme’s inaugural participants also included Wayne Rooney, Michael Dawson and Carlton Cole.

Carsley's first game in charge of the Young Lions comes when they kick-off the new season with a trip to face Romania in an U21 international in Bucharest on 3 September.

After that game, the squad will return home and begin their new UEFA U21 EURO qualifying campaign when they host Kosovo on 7 September.[/article]

Lewis Bate - Leeds (undisclosed fee reportedly £1.2m plus sell on clause)

[article]Leeds United are pleased to announce the signing of Lewis Bate.

The midfielder joins the Whites from fellow Premier League side Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.

Bate, who attracted interest from a number of clubs, has penned a three-year-deal at Elland Road, running until the summer of 2024.

The 18-year-old has been part of the Chelsea youth setup for the last 10 years and captained the Blues in the 2020 FA Youth Cup final.

Last season he made the step up to Under-23s football, making 20 appearances as Chelsea finished runners-up in Premier League 2 Division 1.

He has also won caps at youth level for England at both Under-17 and Under-18 level.

Bate becomes Leeds’ fifth signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Junior Firpo, Jack Harrison, Shaun McGurk and Amari Miller.

He will initially link up with Mark Jackson’s Under-23s for the forthcoming season.[/article]

He is supposed to be very very good. Apparently, we were also after him but Bielsa guaranteed him first team appearance this season. All rumor's of course.

Chelsea's academy has produced some good talent.

Southampton just signed one too.

Dynel Simeu - Southampton (£1.5m)

[article]Highly-rated young centre back Dynel Simeu has signed for Southampton on a three-year contract, the club is pleased to confirm.

The sought-after 19-year-old joins from Chelsea, where he had played since the age of 13, developing into one of the brightest talents in the Blues Academy.

He now returns to the city where he grew up, initially becoming part of the B Team set-up, where he will continue his development during the 2021/22 season as he works towards an eventual step up into the first team.

Cameroon-born Simeu, who is an England Under-19 international, both captained and featured consistently for the Chelsea Under-23s team that finished second in Premier League 2 last season, while he also had experience of the first-team environment at Stamford Bridge, including making the bench in a Champions League tie away to Bayern Munich in August 2020.

Speaking about the transfer, Simeu said: “I feel glad, finally, that the move was made possible. I'm just excited to get started.

“It's nice to be back home, I've had a really friendly welcome. I feel comfortable that I'm home with my family, so I'm excited.

“I hope to hit the ground running, get fit and comfortable with the boys and then hopefully push towards the first-team.”[/article]

Crystal Palace's signings this transfer window looks good on paper.

Joachim Andersen - Crystal Palace (€17.5m plus add ons)

[article]Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Denmark international defender Joachim Andersen on a five-year deal.

The 25-year-old centre-back joins Palace from Lyon after a competing in the Euro 2020 semi-final this summer.

Andersen’s career began in his native Denmark, but he broke into professional football with Dutch side, F.C. Twente. Shortly after making his first-team debut, Andersen was named Under-19 Talent of the Year by the Danish Football Association.

The centre-back joined Serie A side Sampdoria after 50 games with Twente and played regularly under manager Marco Giampaolo. Andersen’s performances earned him a move to Lyon as a record transfer in summer 2019, and he went on to feature in the 19/20 Champions League – including as a substitute in the semi-final against Bayern Munich.

Andersen then tasted Premier League football with a season-long loan to Fulham in October 2020. He captained the Cottagers and was even nominated for Premier League Player of the Month in February 2021.

That same year, the 25-year-old featured regularly in Denmark’s Euro 2020 campaign, playing as a substitute in all three knock-out games. In doing so, Andersen collected his eighth international cap.

With Andersen becoming the fourth signing so far under Patrick Vieira, Chairman Steve Parish said: "In Joachim, we have added another highly-rated defender to our squad, and as a player with Premier League and international experience, we are extremely pleased to welcome him to Crystal Palace."

Andersen said: “I’m extremely proud to be joining Crystal Palace and to be playing in the world’s best football league.

"The management of the club and Patrick Vieira have given me very strong assurance that they know my qualities, they believe in me and want me to play an important role in the team. I have a very positive impression of Patrick from the conversations I have had with him, and I have heard nothing but great things about the manager, the club and its plans for the future."

Sam Vokes - Wycombe Wanderers (undisclosed fee)

[article]Wycombe Wanderers have pulled off a major coup in the transfer market, bringing former Premier League and Wales striker Sam Vokes to Adams Park, the club are thrilled to announce.

The 31-year-old leaves Championship club Stoke City to sign an initial one-year deal – with the option of a second year – and was unveiled to Chairboys fans on the pitch ahead of Wednesday’s pre-season friendly against Leicester City.

Manager Gareth Ainsworth said: “Sam has been our number one target all summer and we’re so pleased to bring him to Wycombe Wanderers. This is the culmination of so much hard work from a lot of people around the club, and we particularly owe a massive thank you to Andrew Howard for his incredible effort to get the deal done. It’s taken a lot of time, a lot of phone calls, a lot of late night meetings, but we got there and it’s a brilliant acquisition for this club.

“Sam’s experience speaks for itself, with 64 caps for Wales, scoring in a European Championshp quarter-final, winning promotion to the Premier League three times, and scoring a lot of goals in the top two tiers for Burnley over a seven-year period.

“He is the perfect fit for us in terms of his character and the way he plays, bringing out exciting creative attacking players into play, scoring plenty of goals himself, and he is the ideal man to lead the line for us in League 1 this season.”

Vokes started his career at Bournemouth in League 1 in the 2006/07 season, and a prolific run of form in his second season as a professional attracted the attention of Wolverhampton Wanderers, who swooped to take him into the Championship. He was a promotion winner in his first campaign in the Black Country, and remained at the club until 2012, also spending time on loan in the second tier with Leeds United, Bristol City, Sheffield United, Norwich City, Burnley and Brighton.

He returned to Burnley in 2012 and went on to score 20 league goals in his second season at Turf Moor as the Clarets reached the top flight, and followed it up with another 15 Championship goals in 2015/16 during another promotion-winning campaign, before netting 10 times in the top flight the next year.

Vokes, who earned the first of 64 international caps in 2008, swapped Burnley for Stoke City in the 2018/19 campaign, and featured for the Potters at Adams Park last December before leaving the club this summer.

Sam Vokes is the new number 9 at Adams Park.[/article]

Yasser Larouci - Troyes (free transfer)

[article]
Liverpool have missed out on potentially millions of pounds after losing Yasser Larouci on a free transfer to Troyes.

His contract expired this summer after telling the Reds that he had no intention of renewing his deal last year.

Anfield chiefs desperately tried to sell the defender but to no avail and the 20-year-old has now departed for nothing.

It has meant Liverpool have missed out on a huge payout due to compensation rules in England.

Among the clubs having a look, Leeds United and Brentford had been interested in the youngster and could have made offers last summer after ramping up their efforts.

However, a transfer failed to go through and Larouci remained at Anfield for another year despite his situation.

Liverpool desperately tried to convince the Frenchman to change his mind and had offered him a new contract.

But he rejected any offer outright, insisting that he wanted to leave to start playing immediately in the first-team.

Andy Robertson is firmly first-choice at the club, while James Milner has even been preferred to back-up option Kostas Tsimikas.

It meant that any avenue into the starting XI was always stacked against Larouci's favour.

But his choice of club will surely leave a sour taste in Liverpool's mouth with Manchester City the potential benefactors.

Troyes are one of several club's under the City Football Group, along with the likes of New York City, Girona and Melbourne City, to name but a few.

Larouci has signed a five year contract with the Ligue 1 outfit, who also signed Metinho this summer from Fluminese for around €5m.

It means both players could be at the Etihad one day should they develop how the club want them to.

Furthermore, if Larouci had signed for Brentford or Leeds this summer, Liverpool would have been entitled to a compensation fee.

FA rules state that clubs can expect a sum of money for any player under the age of 24 who leaves on a free transfer for another team in England.

If the two clubs cannot reach an agreement, the matter goes to a tribunal.

The Reds know the process well having done the same for Harvey Elliott, Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke in recent years.

However, with Troyes being in another country, those rules do not apply - instead, the FIFA regulations come into effect which means a much lower fee.

Instead, Liverpool can expect roughly £250,000 - a staggering amount lower than the millions they could have expected otherwise.

The Reds are looking to offload a number of fringe players this summer with Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic already departing.

Ben White - Arsenal (£50m)

[article]Ben White has joined us from Brighton & Hove Albion on a long-term contract.

The 23-year-old defender, who has proved to be one of the Premier League’s finest young prospects, joins us after spending the summer as part of the England squad at the Euros.

Ben spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Leeds United, where he was an ever-present in their Championship-winning side, helping them win promotion back to the Premier League after a 16-year absence. He returned to the south coast last season, becoming a key member of Brighton’s Premier League side.

Ben started his youth career at Southampton before joining Brighton as a 16-year-old, where he enjoyed rapid progress, making his first-team debut as an 18-year-old. During his time at Brighton, as well as the Championship-winning spell with Leeds, Ben also spent successful loan spells with Newport County and Peterborough United.

Technical director Edu said: “Ben has been a key target this summer. He has so many qualities which make us so excited he’s joining us. Ben’s a young English player with a great future. He’s very strong defensively, good on the ball with a great passing range. We’re delighted Ben’s signed and we look forward to him growing with us.”

Mikel Arteta said: “Ben was a top target for us and it’s great that we’ve completed his signing. Ben has been educated with two very good clubs, Brighton and Leeds, in recent seasons. He has benefitted well from two very good coaching set-ups and has shown with both Brighton and on loan with Leeds what a strong talent he is.

"Ben is an intelligent defender who is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and his style fits perfectly with us. And of course, he is still young, so his age and profile fits with what we are building here. We are all looking forward to Ben being central to our future long-term plans.

Ben will wear the No 4 shirt and will immediately join up with his new team-mates ahead of The Mind Series friendly match at home to Chelsea on Sunday.

Everyone at Arsenal welcomes Ben to the club.

The transfer is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.[/article]

Another talent young player that Crystal Palace has signed (albeit on loan)

Conor Gallagher - Crystal Palace (loan)

[article]Crystal Palace are delighted to announce the signing of Conor Gallagher on a one-year loan from Chelsea.

The 21-year-old midfielder arrives after a first full season of Premier League football at West Bromwich Albion, where he scored twice and assisted twice in 32 appearances.

After progressing through the youth system at Chelsea and featuring in the matchday squad as they won the 2019 Europa League final, Gallagher made a successful loan move to Charlton Athletic in 2019/20, where three goals in his first six appearances saw him crowned the Football League’s Young Player of the Month for August.

Moving to Swansea City for the second half of the 19/20 season, Gallagher was part of the Swans side to secure a play-off spot alongside now-Palace teammate Marc Guéhi, contributing seven assists in just 19 Championship games.

An England Under-21 international, Gallagher won the Under-17s World Cup with England in 2017 and has represented the Young Lions at all levels from Under-17 to Under-21 – playing 32 international youth games so far.

Gallagher becomes Palace’s fifth signing under Patrick Vieira, after Joachim Andersen joined Guéhi, Michael Olise and Remi Matthews in south London.

Chairman Steve Parish said: "I am delighted Conor has chosen to come to Crystal Palace on a season-long loan after some impressive performances in the Premier League last season. We very much look forward to him joining the squad as we continue to build towards the new season."

Upon putting pen to paper in south London, Gallagher said: "I’m buzzing to be here. I can’t wait to get started, I’m happy to get the deal over the line.

"I spoke to the manager, I liked what he said, I liked how he wants to play, how he wants me to play and how he wants the team to play. I feel like I can learn from him and the players around me."

Marko Arnautovic - Bologna

[article]Bologna have officially announced Marko Arnautovic’s arrival from Shanghai Port after anticipating the news with a funny video.

The transfer for Arnautovic to Bologna is a done deal and only the official announcement has been missing from the Rossoblu.

“Bologna FC 1909 announce that they have acquired the right to sporting services for striker Marko Arnautovic from Shanghai SIPG,” the club wrote in a statement.

The club uploaded CCTV footage of Stadio Renato Dall’Ara that shows the presence of a spirit that wanders through the corridors at the ground.

In the end, the Austria international reveal himself in a Bologna shirt. The caption on the video says: “We do not recommend viewing for easily scared people.”[/article]

Russell Martin - Swansea City (Head Coach)

[article]
Swansea City is delighted to confirm the appointment of Russell Martin as the club’s new head coach.

The 35-year-old has signed a three-year contract at the Liberty Stadium after compensation was agreed with League One side Milton Keynes Dons.

Martin will be joined in SA1 by coaches Luke Williams, Matt Gill and Dean Thornton, while Alan Tate will continue in his capacity as first-team coach.

Martin and his staff will oversee training at Fairwood on Monday and take charge of the Swans’ Championship opener against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, August 7.

“We are delighted with the appointment of Russell as our new head coach,” said Swansea City chief executive, Julian Winter.

“He very much fits the profile of a young and hungry coach who wants to succeed, and he is more than ready for the opportunity.

“When it became clear we would be looking for a new head coach, at the forefront of our thoughts was finding a candidate who was ambitious, driven and with a clear vision of how he wants the team to play.

“After earning plaudits with Milton Keynes Dons for the attractive, attacking style that he implemented, we quickly realised Russell would be the right person to take us forward.

“We were also seeking someone with a passion for working with and developing young players. Russell ticks all those boxes.

“While his coaching philosophy is clear, Russell also enjoyed a fine playing career that saw him amass over 500 senior appearances.

“He captained Peterborough and Norwich, as well as winning promotion on five separate occasions, which tells you everything about his leadership qualities and winning mentality.”

A former defender, Martin enjoyed a 15-year playing career that began in the youth ranks at Brighton and Hove Albion and included winning 29 caps for Scotland.

After spells with Wycombe Wanderers and Peterborough United – the latter of whom he helped achieve promotion to the Championship as skipper – a loan move to Norwich City followed.

His stint at Carrow Road proved such a success that he joined permanently in January 2010 with the Canaries on their way to the League One title.

Martin spent the next eight years in East Anglia, helping the club win promotion to the Premier League in 2011 and 2015.

During his time at Norwich he played alongside current Swansea squad members Ryan Bennett, Kyle Naughton and Korey Smith.

After a brief loan spell with Scottish side Glasgow Rangers, Martin left Norwich in 2018 and joined Walsall as a player-coach.

From there he agreed to join Milton Keynes Dons in January 2019, and helped them secure promotion to League One at the conclusion of the campaign.

Then, following Paul Tisdale’s departure as manager in November 2019, Martin was appointed his successor and subsequently announced his retirement as a player.

After keeping the Dons in League One at the end of the 2019-20 season, Martin guided the side to a 13th placed finish last season after implementing an attractive style that saw the Dons sit behind only Manchester City and Barcelona in Europe when it came to their dominance of possession.

His approach and his commitment to it have won him no shortage of plaudits, and marked him out as one of the brightest young coaches in the game.

[article]Eldor Shomurodov has completed his transfer to Roma, as Genoa will receive €17.5m plus €2.5m in bonuses, but it’s not a loan with obligation to buy. ‘It’s a huge step forward in my career.’

The Uzbekistan international put pen to paper today, with the announcement arriving this evening.

A statement reads that the permanent transfer has been completed for €17.5m plus variable bonuses, as well as a percentage of the future transfer fee.

He signed a contract to June 2026 and will wear the Number 14 jersey.

“Joining Roma represents a huge step forward in my career – I will do everything I can to show I deserve this opportunity and to demonstrate what I can do at one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Shomurodov told the official club website.

“The speed in which this deal was agreed is testament to my desire to be able to join up with the coach and my new teammates and get to work as soon as possible.”

The Corriere dello Sport claim the details of the deal have been clarified, a permanent transfer fee with €1.5m straight away, another €16m then spread out over several years.

The performance-related bonuses are not easy to achieve and are based on the results of both the player and Roma during his time there.

“Eldor is a forward with great potential to develop even further and he is hungry to prove himself at Roma, in a league he already knows well,” said Tiago Pinto, the club’s General Manager.

“Along with that desire, his qualities as a player also fit well with the way our coach wants to play – and for that reason we are delighted to be able to welcome him to the club.”

The 26-year-old impressed in his debut Serie A season at Genoa, scoring eight goals and providing one assist in 31 appearances.

That included five goals in his last six games of the season, including a brace against Atalanta.
