It's tactical, I think. Szobo as an inverted right back allows us to overload the midfield.
Could be helpful against a Palace side that usually play in a 3-4-2-1 system.

Also, I just think Slot wants to find a way to play everyone
I think that is unlikely from the start, but could be tried if needed later in the game.

I thought we did. Did I miss something.

We've been alternating between Frimpong and Bradley since they both got fit, expect that to continue.

Frimpong has been a little disappointing, and Bradders too. I think Szobo is seen as the best option there at the min. Especially if he's not needed further up. But of course, if Bradpong plays they will improve.

Is Frimpong suspended or injured? Hasn't anyone else noticed he's missing from @Modo's matchday squad? Not making the starting lineup on the back of the midweek cup game, I can understand, but Slot is not going to drop him for Danns.

If we're picking the team on merit then wirtz should be on the bench. He's done nothing to say he deserves to start.

Oh I totally forgot about him.
He'll definitely be on the bench

I can't see why he'd play Szobo at right back when we have two fit right backs. But, I've been wrong before...
I honestly don't think neither Bradley nor Frimpong have been convincing.
Bradley has been the better of the two but last time he started Grealish caused him a lot of trouble.

Hey I could be wrong, personally I'd start a right back. I'm just trying to predict the team Slot will start.

We are 5 points clear after 5 games lol

That's the short and sweet of it but I stand by what I said, most these players have put in stinker after stinker and have gotten away with it week after week due to unlikely heros saving the day, including the Italian undertaker who rose from the dead, a then 16 year old prepubescent child and a fucking Hannibal.

Did he? He got one cross in (which was because Bradders was left 2 on 1) otherwise he was very well marshalled. Bradley will start anyway, not worth a conversation.

Grealish got the best of him a few times if I remember it correctly. Wasn't just one cross.

I think Bradley's one of those fullbacks who'll always be a bit iffy and loose defensively but will try and make up for that with his attacking ability, a bit like the last guy with the main difference being the effort they put in.

& when we can see early on teams have earmarked him out as a route to get at or in behind us, then we need to focus on the team structure and how that can help support.

At least ½ dozen people had him in their Top 3 for MotM, that's not a player that waas skinned over and over.

1. Gravy
2. Kerkez
3. Bradley

Our FBs had by far the toughest players to handle today and I thought both did a great job overall (Grealish is always going to get crosses in - the only one he did that counted was when Bradders was left 1 vs 2). Kerkez back to the form that saw him winning PL LB of last season.

They're all irish 😀

The Echo:

Conor Bradley 6
Tough ask up defensively against the tricky Grealish and was found wanting on occasion, and forward forays were reduced significantly second half but was undeterred.

Goal.com:
Conor Bradley (5/10):

Whenever Jack Grealish moved a muscle, the Northern Ireland international was all over him like a rash. But the Manchester City loanee made it difficult for him and lost him for Everton's goal.

givemesport.com:

RB: Conor Bradley - 6.5/10

Had a very good, competitive battle going on with Grealish throughout the match. Both players had their moments, but Bradley probably came out second best, especially in the first half, as Grealish started to see a lot more of the ball.

express.co.uk:

Conor Bradley - 6

His battle with Jack Grealish was perhaps the most intriguing of all individual duels on the pitch, and one that Conor Bradley struggled with at times, despite his determination. Grealish was continuously fed the ball, especially in the second half, and was able to force Gueye's goal as a result.
TNT Sports commentator Ally McCoist said that Grealish wouldn’t be surprised if Bradley followed him out to the car park after full-time, such was his determination to stay tight to the winger.

BBC.com:

Bradley Average Rating: 6.70
(Behind Gravy, Ekitike, Virg, Szobo and Ali)

Yahoo Sports:

Conor Bradley – 6.0

The Irish fullback was targeted from the outset and he was diligent in stopping the increasing threat of Jack Grealish

As the game resumed, the former academy graduate was exposed and tested time and time again as Grealish pushed and proved the inexperienced player.

And if you're wondering, no...
No, I don't have a life.

I'm coming to the conclusion Bradders is a big game player. Big moments in big games, but loses the focus in the smaller games.

This is from today's training session:

Seems like Robbo didn't take part in training.
Danns not involved either.

Those who started in the mid-week game on one side + Nyoni.
The ones who were on the bench on the other side.

Slightly concerned with this one, bit of a bogey team and on a personal not cannot stand them.
Strongest team to win plays for me.

I think Chiesa will be more effective against a defence with less space than Gakpo. A back 5 will not leave many openings for the cut inside and shoot play.

We might also want to have Gakpo primed on the bench to play down the middle instead of Isak.

Let's hope we can get this sorted in the first half so that our reduced striker options don't bite us in the ass.

Hoping Sarr isn't back for Palace yet, as they look much less of a threat without him
Yep, agreed with all of that. Sarr is something of a bogey player against us in recent years.
I think Chiesa should start with Isak in the middle, Gakpo and Rio to relieve them as and when they tire.
If we don't take all three points I'm going to be pissed with Hugo for a bit. I'll forgive him if we win.

I think this is our most tricky game of the season. A real test. if we get a win here, I'll be VERY impressed.
almost a badge of honour to have palace give you grief, peak city often had problems with them also
